CHAPTER 498: CHAPTER 498: THERE’S ALWAYS A WOMAN OUT TO GET ME
The stylist for this event is also an old friend of Wenny. After styling her curly hair into a vintage look, he exclaimed "bravo" a few times, and then accessorized it with a beautiful golden feather.
Although Ruby Sullivan has a very elegant Eastern face, with such attire, she looks like a Gallian princess from the medieval era. When not smiling, she appears cold and noble; with a slight smile, she is gentle and charming.
"Enchanting no matter which angle I look at you." The stylist was genuinely admiring her final look.
Ruby Sullivan was also pleased looking at herself in the mirror and thanked the stylist, then asked him to take a photo of her. She wanted to send it to Mr. Sterling.
It’s rare for her to have such a special look. If he couldn’t see it, she would feel a bit regretful. This must be the feeling of dressing up for someone special.
After sending the photo, she waited for a while but didn’t receive a reply. Ruby Sullivan put her phone back into her handbag.
Possibly, the issue on his end is particularly tricky, so it’s better not to distract him too much.
Due to spending so much time on styling, Ruby Sullivan arrived at the event venue just in time for the opening dance. She didn’t even have time to sip champagne before being informed by staff that she needed to get ready for the dance immediately.
She quickly glanced around for Mr. T and suddenly felt someone watching her. Indeed, she spotted Mr. T, exceptionally dapper in a black suit, amid the crowd.
He smiled and walked toward her slowly.
"Hey, darling, you look stunning today. So, are you satisfied with the dance partner arranged by the host? Regardless of who he is, he would be the luckiest man here tonight." Gina approached with a beaming smile, mentioning the topic they had discussed yesterday.
Gina is the daughter of a high-ranking French executive with royal lineage, possessing a very respectable status. She had a fascination with Dr. L at one point, leading her to view Ruby Sullivan unfavorably. Encounters in public settings would inevitably result in conflict. When she saw Gina, Ruby’s scalp tingled with anxiety. Yet, there hadn’t been a chance for them to have a close conversation before yesterday.
However, yesterday’s conversation between them did not result in any unpleasantness. In fact, the girl turned out to be quite humorous, and their chat was rather enjoyable.
Yesterday, Gina mentioned she had a new interest in someone else, and Ruby Sullivan felt there was no longer any reason for contention between them, without a shred of doubt about her attitude.
Indeed, Gina was speaking honestly.
Thus, facing Gina’s compliment now, Ruby Sullivan smiled faintly. "What a coincidence, I happened to run into a friend who came over to have fun after the event yesterday, who can be my dance partner."
"Really? That’s wonderful," Gina said while glancing around, "Where’s your friend?"
"Behind you." Ruby Sullivan said and walked over to Mr. T a few steps away, taking his arm, "This is my dance partner."
Gina’s face shifted promptly. She gazed at Ruby Sullivan’s joyful expression in shock. Well, actually, Ruby was just wearing an ordinary smile, but now Gina couldn’t view it ordinarily.
She quickly adjusted her expression, glancing between Mr. T and Ruby Sullivan, and with a hint of envy in her voice, said, "Wenny indeed is a top-notch beauty in the fragrance industry, able to come and go freely from Dr. L’s study, and being good friends with the famous Mr. T."
Ruby Sullivan’s face turned ashen immediately.
Both she and Gina understood what access to L’s study referred to. Regardless of whether Mr. T comprehended, the remark hit hard at her heart, without pondering why Gina knew Mr. T.
Although Mr. T was famed, few knew his appearance. Even with Gina’s high status, she shouldn’t easily know Mr. T’s face.
Unexpectedly, from the brief chat with her yesterday, she might have been foolish, for the other may have said many sarcastic things, while she, staying domestically for two years, couldn’t comprehend.
Just when Ruby Sullivan wished the ground would swallow her up, she heard him command icily beside her, "Apologize."
No extra words, just those two, the deep tone already made clear the consequence of refusal.
Gina shivered instinctively but did not restrain herself despite the initial fear. She furrowed her brow and complained, "Didn’t you say you couldn’t dance the round table dance?"
"Apologize."
Although Mr. T’s tone didn’t seem different from earlier, Ruby Sullivan already felt the man’s aura of intimidation, hoping Gina would stop courting disaster, yet she apparently didn’t realize it.
"Is it for this promiscuous woman that you rejected me?" Gina pointed at Ruby Sullivan’s nose, nearly roaring, and almost everyone within a two-meter radius heard her insult, casting complex glances at Ruby Sullivan.
Almost everyone present knew the scandal that erupted on YouTube, with Ruby Sullivan and L. Their relationship was always a focal point for the media and gossipers. With such a solid proof, it wouldn’t be surprising if someone here had recorded and saved that video.
All of a sudden, Ruby Sullivan felt her soul detach momentarily, as if separated by a thick glass from the world. Those strange gazes seemed unrelated to her.
Though she knew Mr. T was speaking to her, she couldn’t hear him clearly. However, she knew if she continued to drift away like this, this man would undoubtedly tear Gina apart in anger, which she didn’t want.
Before Mr. T could explode, Ruby Sullivan grasped his hand, smiled, with a gaze of overlooking everything, and lowered her eyelids slightly, looking at Gina, "I’m truly sorry, Miss Gina, Mr. T prefers to be my dance partner over dancing with you. You, are simply not as good as me."
After saying this, she tightly held Mr. T’s arm and walked toward the spot arranged by the staff.
Mr. T looked down at her and smiled, "No need to get angry with such people."
Ruby Sullivan sighed, "Mr. T, I’m mad at you."
"Hmm?"
"I heard you supposedly can’t do the round table dance."
Mr. T’s face tensed, "I’ve learned, I, am smart."
Seeing him in serious tension, Ruby Sullivan couldn’t help but laugh, "Hopefully so."
Ruby Sullivan never imagined the man Gina set her sights on would be Mr. T, and when the scandal broke out back then, she was the first to start whispering within the circle, almost wanting to split the part of her that admired L back then.
The cheerful sound of a xylophone resonated, and the dancers began to spin to the rhythm of the music. Ruby Sullivan, smiling, looked at Mr. T, trying hard to immerse herself in the dance steps, to stop thinking about the messy stuff.
At this moment, outside of the crowd, a man with a grim face watched everything in the dance floor, angry yet helpless. Who would have thought there would be a traffic jam on the way?
