Chapter 337: Thousands of Memories (1)
CHAPTER 337: THOUSANDS OF MEMORIES (1)
Georgia’s POV
The room was so quiet that it was really awkward and suffocating despite being full of people just moments ago. Every single pair of eyes kept darting between Nick and me, waiting for him to say something—anything. But he didn’t. He just stood there, staring at me as if I’d just come back from the dead.
I blinked at him, trying to fight the awkwardness clawing at the air. Okay, seriously... someone say something. Preferably him.
"B-but if he needs rest, he can go with you. I’m fine here, I’ll just sleep anyway, or—" I tried to fill the silence, but Nick’s voice suddenly cut through it.
"Everyone, go."
Just two words—firm, quiet, and absolute.
The room instantly stirred to life again. Footsteps, murmurs rose, and Vicky started herding everyone toward the door like a flustered mother hen. "Alright, alright, let’s go, go, go!" she said, waving at the others to hurry.
I watched them leave one by one until the door finally clicked shut, leaving only Nick and me. He was still standing there, unmoving, his eyes never leaving my face—as if he was guarding something precious like a treasure chest... or someone.
I tilted my head and tried to sound casual even though my chest felt like it was filled with butterflies. "What? Why are you looking at me like that?"
He didn’t answer right away. Instead, he started walking toward me—fast, which made my pulse spike. I instinctively scooted back, clutching the blanket like a shield. "J-just stay there. Don’t move too close," I blurted, though my heart was the one betraying me, racing so loud I swore he could hear it.
"I just wanted to thank you," he said softly, his voice rough around the edges. "Thank you for letting me stay. I thought... You didn’t want me here."
"Well, I did—I mean, I don’t really remember much about you," I admitted, fiddling with the edge of the blanket. "Except that you were... the suspect in my brother’s case. But Ella told me her version of our story after you saved me. She said it would be best if I ask you for the rest of it since we’ve been together since then. So I figured, maybe I should hear your side, and hopefully it will awaken some of my memories back."
For a moment, silence stretched again—but this time, it wasn’t suffocating. It was warm. His eyes softened, glistening like he was holding back something he couldn’t quite say. Then the faintest smile tugged at his lips, slow and trembling, as if he couldn’t believe I was real.
And just like that, the air around us changed. It wasn’t awkward anymore. It was something else—something tender, like the first fragile moment of remembering someone your heart never forgot.
Damn... is this really the same man I saw in the courtroom before? The one who looked like he could intimidate a whole army with just a glare? Because right now, standing beside my hospital bed, he looked... soft. Almost adorably soft. Like a golden retriever pretending to be a wolf.
Was he always this cute?
Oh my God, what the heck am I thinking? Brain, stop. You literally forgot everything. Have some shame!
"Sure, I’ll tell you everything," he said, his tone gentle—too gentle for someone I once thought was dangerous. "But it’s almost dinner time. I’ll go to the nurse’s station and check what you can eat. Since you’re pregnant, I thought you might be craving something. What do you want to eat?"
My jaw almost dropped. Hold up. Was this the same man who, a few hours ago, looked like a thunderstorm in human form? Because now he sounded like he was about to knit me a blanket and sing lullabies.
Is this... how I fell in love with him? This? The softness? The care? The way his voice dipped just low enough to sound like a promise?
"I—I’m not sure," I stammered, realizing how ridiculous I must’ve looked gawking at him. "But I’m hungry. I think I’m on a soft diet for now, so maybe something warm? Like porridge... or ramen? Anything with soup is fine."
He nodded like it was a sacred mission. Then he grabbed the paper bag Vicky had left on the coffee table and placed it carefully beside me.
"Here," he said. "Your phone and laptop are inside. Maybe looking through them will help refresh your memory. I’ll be right back."
And just like that, he walked out.
I stared at the door long after it closed, my heart fluttering like it had a mind of its own. Fierce, scary Nicholas Knight from the courtroom had just turned into the sweetest man alive.
After Nick left, I picked up my phone from the paper bag and sank back against the pillows. The room felt strangely quiet without his presence, like all the air went with him when he walked out the door.
The screen lit up instantly, and I blinked when I saw my wallpaper. It was a photo of Nick, me, and Katie... He was smiling. Softly. Like, he only smiled that way for me.
"Okay... that’s definitely something," I muttered under my breath, unlocking my phone.
My fingers hesitated before tapping on the gallery app, half-expecting to see random photos of food or landscapes. But when the gallery opened —
I froze.
There were thousands of photos and videos... and most of them were of Nick.
"What the hell—" I whispered, scrolling through them, my jaw hanging open.
There were casual shots—Nick cooking in the kitchen, Nick laughing with someone, Nick kneeling beside Katie and helping her tie her shoes. Then there were selfies—me and Nick making silly faces together, Nick asleep on the couch with his arm around me.
A warmth spread across my chest as I scrolled further, smiling without meaning to. We look... happy.
But then—
"Oh my God," I gasped, nearly dropping my phone.
There he was—shirtless. In another one, freshly out of the shower, only a towel wrapped around his waist, water dripping from his hair, sliding down his neck. Holy hell! What was I doing back then?!
