Georgia’s POV
The sky had already deepened into a soft navy blue by the time we stepped into the reception, the whole place glowing under strings of warm lights. Candice’s assistants hurried over with two elegant chairs, placing them at the center of the dance floor like they were preparing a small throne room just for us.
Vicky was already settled behind the keyboard, Liam at the drums, both of them smiling like they’d been waiting all evening for this exact moment. Oliver stood in front of the microphone, a guitar strapped across his chest, fiddling with the stand as he shot me a mischievous grin.
"Good evening, ladies and gents," Oliver began, instantly pulling everyone’s attention. "Our beloved groom has assigned me a very important mission tonight: delivering his wedding gifts to his bride. Yes, gifts, many. Very generous man. Honestly, it was sad that he didn’t choose to marry me and chose Georgia instead of me."
The whole crowd burst into laughter. I did too, I couldn’t help it.
Oliver placed a dramatic hand on his chest. "As his best man, I made sure every single person involved cooperated, even if I had to drag them out of their offices or homes to make this perfect. I think some of you already know what’s coming... especially those who survived the groom’s overly dramatic proposal scene. And now... here we are with Mr. and Mrs. Knight."
He nodded to the band. "This song is written by Nicholas Knight himself." Then he turned and pointed directly at me, smiling wide. "And this is for you, Georgia."
My heart thumped so loudly it nearly drowned out the soft intro Vicky began to play.
But before I could fully wrap my head around what was happening, a tiny figure stepped onto the dance floor.
Katie.
Our little girl walked forward in the most graceful, floaty steps, so graceful I didn’t recognize her for a heartbeat. She was wearing a white dress almost identical to mine, the skirt swishing as she held a delicate flower hoop draped with long ribbons. She looked like a miniature bride, radiating pure magic.
She paused at the center of the dance floor, turning toward the crowd with wide, expectant eyes.
I followed her gaze and saw Ella at the side, doing tiny hand signals like a nervous stage mom.
"Oh gosh... Ella taught her..." I whispered, right as Vicky began to sing the first lines of the song Nick wrote for me, while Katie started to dance.
Slow, soft twirls... tiny pointed toes... ribbons fluttering around her like she was made of petals and light.
My breath caught.
This... this was my family.
This was the life we built, messy, unexpected, beautiful, and watching my daughter dance to a song that my husband wrote for me felt like the kind of moment people wrote fairy tales about.
And I was living it.
Vicky’s voice floated through the evening air like something warm and familiar, wrapping itself around the entire reception.
[Verse 1 – Vicky]
"When I saw you, it was clear
I knew the path that led me here
Through the trials, through the fight
You’re the reason, you’re my light."
My fingers instinctively tightened around Nick’s as my gaze bounced between Katie twirling with her flower hoop, Ella giving her whispered cues from the side, and the band glowing with quiet excitement onstage. Everything felt surreal, like I had stepped into a dream someone created just for me.
Nick pulled me closer, brushing a tender kiss against my temple. My whole chest squeezed at the simple, gentle affection. How did I get so lucky?
[Pre-Chorus – Oliver]
"I was afraid to reach for you
Afraid you wouldn’t see me through
But your love broke every wall
Now I know I have it all."
My head snapped toward Oliver, my jaw actually dropping a little. I knew he could talk fast, joke loudly, and annoy Nick on command, but sing? Sing like that? That was new. And ridiculously impressive.
I had expected Vicky’s voice to shine; she always hummed while washing dishes in the penthouse, or sang little pieces of random songs whenever the mood struck her, but Oliver’s smooth, unexpectedly emotional tone left me slightly stunned.
And then it was Liam’s turn. He leaned forward, to his mic with that cool, effortless confidence of his... and my heart fluttered, already anticipating what was coming next.
[Chorus – Liam & Vicky]
"Never again will I feel alone
In your arms, I’ve found my home
Sadness fades, the skies turn bright
You are my joy, my heart’s delight
From today till the end of time
I am yours, and you are mine."
Oh my gosh... they were all so talented. Benjamin must be somewhere, bursting with pride over his kids. And honestly? I felt proud too, especially of my own little star spinning in front of the stage and the dance floor.
Katie lifted her flower hoop high, the ribbons swirling like tiny comets around her. She looked ethereal, a miniature angel, floating rather than dancing, every move so soft and full of joy it made my heart ache.
[Verse 2 – Oliver]
"It was not easy, but we stood strong
Every hardship made us belong
Hand in hand, we’ve come this far
You’re my forever, my guiding star."
Oliver’s voice slipped in again, warm and steady, and I felt my throat tighten. The song... this moment... the love woven into every word, it was too much in the best possible way.
[Pre-Chorus – Liam & Vicky]
"I was afraid to reach for you
Afraid you wouldn’t see me through
But your love broke every wall
Now I know I have it all."
That was it.
My heart simply gave up trying to hold everything in.
Tears spilled before I could even blink. Watching Katie dance her little heart out, listening to Nick’s lyrics sung so beautifully by the people who loved us... seeing Ella on the side doing exaggerated steps so Katie could follow along, it all hit me at once.
I wasn’t just witnessing a performance.
I was watching the love of my life give me a gift made of music, family, and the people who shaped our story.
And in that moment, surrounded by laughter, song, and the soft flutter of ribbons, I felt completely, overwhelmingly loved.
[Chorus – Vicky, Oliver, & Liam]
"Never again will I feel alone
In your arms, I’ve found my home
Sadness fades, the skies turn bright
You are my joy, my heart’s delight
From today till the end of time
I am yours, and you are mine
Ohh..."
When the last note of the chorus floated through the night air, I took a quick glance at our guests and instantly felt less embarrassed about my uncontrollable tears.
Almost everyone was crying with me. Some were smiling through it, shaking their heads as they wiped their cheeks, the way people do when their hearts are just... too full.
[Verse 2 – Oliver & Liam]
"It was not easy, but we stood strong
Every hardship made us belong
Hand in hand, we’ve come this far
You’re my forever, my guiding star."
Nick quietly slipped his handkerchief into my hand before pulling me into his arms. His embrace wrapped around me like a warm cocoon, steady and sure, as if he already expected me to fall apart like this.
I sobbed into his chest, unable to look away from the front where Katie danced so gracefully, so bright, while Oliver and Liam sang their hearts out. The ribbons twirled, the lights shimmered, the melody soared...
And all I could think was, ’What did I do to deserve all these?’
Wrapped in Nick’s arms, watching the little family we built shine under the soft glow of the reception lights, I felt my heart stretch in ways I didn’t know were possible.
[Pre-Chorus – Oliver & Liam]
"I was afraid to reach for you
Afraid you wouldn’t see me through
But your love has made me whole
You are the fire in my soul."
[Chorus – Vicky, Oliver, & Liam]
"Never again will I feel alone
In your arms, I’ve found my home
Sadness fades, the skies turn bright
You are my joy, my heart’s delight
From today till the end of time
I am yours, and you are mine
Ohh...
I am yours, and you are mine
Ohh..."
[Bridge – Vicky]
"Through every season, every storm
Your love has kept my spirit warm
No more hiding, no more fear
With you forever, always near."
Just as the bridge faded into the night air, Katie suddenly broke away from her dance and ran, those tiny feet pattering across the floor with so much urgency that it made me laugh through my tears. She stopped in front of Ella, who handed her a tiny white box topped with a delicate flower before gently nudging her toward me.
Katie sprinted back, cheeks flushed, eyes glowing. "Mommy, congratulations on your wedding! Here, Daddy’s gift!" she declared proudly, placing the little box in my hands before scurrying back to Ella like she had just accomplished a top-secret mission.
Nick intertwined his fingers with mine and tugged me gently to my feet. Behind us, Candice’s team swooped in like graceful shadows, whisking the chairs away as a warm spotlight washed over us.
"Open it," Nick murmured, eyes gleaming.
