Chapter b40 /b

Caleb’s POV

My mother was waiting for me when I arrived back at the pack house, and I could tell by her expression that my father already knew what had happened

“Cal…what did you do?” Caroline asked, her voice trembling slightly as she gripped my hand over the steering wheel “Please… tell me.

With a forced smile, I removed her hand from mine. “It’s alright, Care. You should head home.”

“Cal-”

“Care.” I countered. “Please.”

She nodded, looking worried, but she didn’t ask any more questions as she got out of the car and left. Once I had parked and gotten out of the car, my mother was instantly by my side. “Caleb.”

“I know mom, I’ll head to his office.” I nodded before walking past her and into the pack house, knowing that this confrontation was inevitable.

I didn’t need to knock because the guards outside the door immediately let me inside and there, I found my fatherb, /bAlpha Camden, sitting on his chair, bwith /ba bunch of papers in front of his, as usual.

But as soon as he saw me, he ced his files aside and motioned for me to take ba /bseat, his expression grave.

I was sure that he was already aware of what had happened, and I wasn’t worried since bI /bhad nned on letting my father know anyway. He was also my Alpha and he should be aware of things going on in his region that had forced me to get involved.

My father waited for a beat, hoping that I would start the conversation, but when I didn’t, he let out a sigh before turning his bputer /bscreen towards me.

“Sheriff Gilbert sent me this video this afternoon.” He said as he pressed y. And I instantly knew what it wasb. /bThe footage of me leaping bin /bfront of Mr. Hemming’s car and him losing control and crashing into a tree.

The footage was ck and white and the quality wasn’t all that good, but it was clear who that wolf belonged to from the sheer bsize /bof it.

“Do you have an exnation for yourself?” Father asked, his eyes narrowed on my face.

“No.” I told him without emotions. “I did what I had to do to make him pay.”

“And what, pray tell, had he done that required you to almost expose our existence?” He raised an eyebrow at me.

“He tried to force himself on a ssmate.” I told him, watching his eyes widen in shock. “He told her to stay after school to give her extra lessons. But Caroline left a notebook in ss and when I went back to get it, the door was locked and the girl was trying to escape.b” /b

I left out the most vital part in this conversation, that the girl in question was someone my wolf already recognized as my mate. But somewhere in the back of my mind, I held on to fragile hope that as long as the clock didn’t strike twelve on my eighteenth birthday, there was still a chance for me to change my fate.

Father sighed audibly, rubbing at his eyes as he leaned back against his chair. “How is the child doing?”

“Scared.” I informed him, remembering Aurora’s helpless form on the floor and afterwards, her sobs in the locker–room. “But she didn’t want to report. She was probably afraid of the questions the cop would ask herb./b”

“I understand.” He nodded. “I’ll rify the details with the Sheriff and the doctors at the hospital. And I’ll make bsure /bthe school fires him for goo. But Caleb, if something like this happens again, do not take action on your own. One small mistake could’ve led to this man’s death. And no matter bhow /bfoul he was, it would leave a stain on your consciousness that would’ve been hard to get rid of.”

I nodded. “Understood, Alpha.”

“Did you really?” He raised his brows, knowing me all

too well.

I took a deep breath before I replied to him. “I understand what you’re trying to tell bme/b, and from now on, I will bbe /bcareful ant to let mut the he actions. But I do not regret what I did, father.”

He blooked /bat me for a few seconds, before a slow smile formed on his lips and he nodded. “You can leave, Caleb, Bor atit. bI’ll /bbe giving perpekoniy service for a week.”

I nodded, taking the punishment gracefully. Because I knew that if I had the chance to change the past, I would do it all over again.
