CHAPTER 61: NICE SOFT BLANKET

Lin Xuan Qi frowned and glanced at Xue Cong.

Sometimes he would rather Xue Cong be more like Liu Shi Shi.

And Liu Shi Shi to be more like Xue Cong.

Then, it would be the best of both worlds.

But life doesn’t bend to your wishes.

So, he had to get used to things.

Xue Cong saw his gaze on her, and she nodded her head.

Liu Shi Shi bit her lower lip.

Somehow, she felt something when Lin Xuan Qi preferred to let Xue Cong have the first bite.

She quickly shook her head and thought to herself, "Liu Shi Shi, what are you thinking...."

Her goal of finding out the killer of her family was yet to be achieved.

She had no business thinking about other things.

"Go on, try it." Lin Xuan Qi raised his hand, gesturing to Xue Cong to try the meat skewer.

Xue Cong held the skewer to her mouth, and she could smell the aroma of the cooked meat coming into her nose instantly.

It was appetizing with the smell of piping hot oil and meat.

She took a bite and her eyes opened wide when she chewed on it.

The meat had taste after being marinated with the soy sauce and salt.

It was a luxury for most of the peasants.

Some would only afford a meal with salt every few days.

Xue Cong’s taste buds weren’t used to the burst of flavor, and she couldn’t help but take another bite from the skewer.

Lin Xuan Qi nodded at what he was seeing, satisfied that his culinary skills were good enough.

"Come everyone, join in the feast." He picked up more skewers and handed them out to the others.

Yue Jie took a small bite from the skewer, and she was as pleasantly surprised by it.

In contrast, Yue Xin took out a mouthful from the skewer.

Her mouth was full, and she had to try and keep the meat in.

Yue Jie stared at her and said, "Stop doing that, who would want to marry..."

She stopped herself immediately.

It was something that she would do to try and teach Yue Xin manners, preparing her to be married off to some young masters that were worthy of being associated with her family.

However, it was not the same anymore.

They were now slaves.

The fair and kind treatment from Lin Xuan Qi had made her forget about it for a short moment.

Yue Xin lowered her head and munched on the meat inside her mouth.

After she swallowed, she took a small bite from the skewer.

Lin Xuan Qi didn’t know what went on, but he thought it was rare for Yue Xin not to talk back at Yue Jie.

He didn’t think much about the part about marrying off.

In his mind, he treated them more as employees so far.

"This is... wonderful."

Lee He Song was also pleasantly surprised by the barbeque meat.

He was glad that at his age, he had the opportunity to try something new.

He had thought that he had seen it all.

Not until he met Lin Xuan Qi at least.

The poems and soap were an eye opener for him.

And now, even little minute things in life like a new way to enjoy food were bringing him new enjoyment.

He sighed silently and hoped he would be able to see what Lin Xuan Qi had to offer to the world before he passed away.

"This would be greater if there were wine to go with it." Liu Shi Shi exclaimed when she took a bite out of the meat.

It intrigued Lee He Song and he said, "Wait for me. I’ve got some wine that I’ve been keeping for special occasions."

He turned around and headed for his room.

When he came back, he had a wine gourd in his hand.

"Help me grab some tables, chairs and cups." Xue Cong said, and she walked towards the main hall.

Yue Jie and Yue Xin quickly followed closely behind.

When they came back with a table, chairs and cups they set it up in the area near the barbeque pit.

Lee He Song opened the wine gourd and poured the wine into the cups.

"Master Lin, try it out with the wine."

Lin Xuan Qi took a bite of the meat and even though it wasn’t as flavorful as he wanted it to be, it was good enough.

After that, he picked up one of the cups and downed the wine.

The wine was sweet and aromatic.

A perfect match to the oily and salty taste of the meat.

"It’s like heaven." He exclaimed and Lee He Song gave out a hearty laugh.

Liu Shi Shi did the same and she had the same reaction as Lin Xuan Qi.

Not wanting to be left out, Lee He Song downed two cups of the wine in an instant.

The feast went on throughout the night with them finishing the skewers and the wine that Lee He Song had at the end of it.

Lin Xuan Qi had to be helped to his bed by Xue Cong and Yue Jie as he wasn’t used to drinking so much.

They held his hands across their shoulders and helped him walk to his bedroom.

Lin Xuan Qi staggered and when they entered the bedroom, he tripped on the doorstep and tried to balance himself.

He tried to grab onto anything he could but all he did was push Xue Cong and Yue Jie along with him, towards the bed.

Thud.

They landed onto his bed, giving out a muted thud.

"Master Lin." Xue Cong and Yue Jie cried out.

They were worried that Lin Xuan Qi might be hurt.

Both Xue Cong and Yue Jie wanted to check on him, but they froze when they realized that they were on top of him, side by side.

Never were they so close with a man before.

Their faces blushed red, and their ears burned hot.

Lin Xuan Qi mumbled something as he enjoyed the softness he felt on his chest.

He thought it was his blanket, and he wanted to tug it closer to him.
