CHAPTER 304: CHAPTER 304: THE SEEMINGLY HONEST BODYGUARD ACTUALLY DARED TO DECEIVE HER!
She had struggled to come all the way to Tokyo; there was no way she was giving up now!
Ji Wei abruptly stood up, her hand shooting toward the driver’s neck: "Stop the car, did you hear me?! If you don’t stop, I’ll choke—"
A sudden sharp brake threw Ji Wei’s body forward, slamming her into the seat. Her head throbbed painfully, but she ignored it and scrambled back up.
A Cheng turned his head and looked at her coldly.
Ji Wei forced herself to rein in her emotions, glaring sharply at the man while panting: "Let me off the car!"
"Are you sure you don’t want to meet Mr. Gu?" A Cheng spoke in somewhat broken Chinese.
Ji Wei stared at him in surprise. "You... are really planning to take me to him?"
Could she have misunderstood?
"You are Mrs. Gu. I wouldn’t dare act recklessly toward you," A Cheng managed a faint, forced smile.
Though he said so, he still avoided directly answering her question.
Ji Wei’s expression didn’t relax. "Are you actually taking me to him or not? Speak the truth."
A Cheng hesitated briefly then said, "We’re heading to Kanagawa first."
Kanagawa...
That’s not the address she had heard about.
"Kanagawa is just a county on the outskirts of Tokyo. Are you implying Mo Qian might be there?"
"Apologies, Mrs. Gu, I can’t disclose too much."
A Cheng’s tone was flat as he finished speaking and restarted the car.
Ji Wei wasn’t sure if Gu Moqian was really there, but she decided to take the gamble.
...
Ye Cheng returned to the apartment and pushed the door open, scanning the room quickly. There was no sign of Gu Moqian.
He stepped cautiously forward, and suddenly noticed a cup of tea on the coffee table, only half-drunk. His phoenix eyes narrowed slightly.
Gu Moqian would never prepare tea only to leave it untouched—something urgent must have happened, forcing him away.
Ye Cheng strode quickly into the bedroom and pushed the door open. No one was inside. He followed up by checking the balcony, bathroom, and kitchen, but found nothing.
Gu Moqian was not in the apartment.
Ye Cheng immediately pulled out his phone and dialed Gu Moqian’s number, but the sound of the ringtone came from near the sofa.
Quickly, he rushed over and traced the sound, discovering Gu Moqian’s phone wedged deep in the sofa’s crevice.
Damn it, he didn’t take his phone!
For the first time, Ye Cheng’s usually composed demeanor showed a flicker of panic. Without wasting another second, he turned around and dashed out the door.
The road to Kanagawa was long. At first, Ji Wei was alert and energized, but eventually fatigue overtook her and she fell asleep. When she woke up, the scenery outside the window had transformed into sprawling fields.
After driving for another hour or so, the car suddenly came to a stop.
The sky was darker now, as evening crept in.
A Cheng pointed to a farmhouse in front of them and said, "Mr. Gu is there."
Excited at the thought of seeing Gu Moqian soon, Ji Wei didn’t think twice before stepping out of the car. She turned to walk a few steps forward, but abruptly, A Cheng started the Bentley.
Realizing something was off, Ji Wei tried to rush back, but A Cheng was prepared. The car shot away like an arrow, disappearing down the road in mere moments.
Ji Wei stood by the roadside, utterly stunned.
She never expected that seemingly honest bodyguard would dare deceive her!
This had to be Ye Cheng’s doing. They were determined to prevent her from getting involved!
Ji Wei checked herself, finally pulling a spare SIM card out of her pants pocket.
Only now did she realize her bag and belongings were still in Zimei’s van, and that her phone had been snatched away by the wiry man during her earlier escape...
