"Mo Qian!"
Ji Wei was startled to see Mo Qian but quickly regained herposure. Taking advantage of Yamamoto Yu’s momentary distraction, she forcefully pulled her hand back and walked up to Mo Qian.
Mo Qian had his suit jacket draped over one arm. His shirt was slightly disheveled, the sleeves rolled high above his elbows. He had clearly rushed over, as his chest was still rising and falling withbored breaths.
Meanwhile, two men in ck stood at the door, their faces bearing bruises and cuts; neither dared to step inside.
Ji Wei quickly noticed his clenched fists. The skin across his knuckles was scraped, and dark red blood had already dried and crusted there.
Realizing how the men at the door had gotten their injuries, she grabbed his hand and inspected it carefully. Concern flickered in her eyes, her voice soft with worry. "Does it hurt?"
When Mo Qian nced at her, his previously stern expression visibly softened, his gaze tender as he replied, "No, it doesn’t."
Still, Ji Wei couldn’t help feeling distressed as she looked at the wounds. She lifted his hand and brought it to her lips, gently blowing on it.
The cool breath brushed across the back of his hand, soothing the pain.
Watching the woman lower her eyes and earnestly tend to him, Mo Qian’s heart softened. Before Ji Wei realized what was happening, he suddenly pulled her into an embrace, holding her tightly with one arm.
"Mo Qian, your hand is still injured..."
Ji Wei was momentarily stunned by his abrupt gesture. As she regained her senses and tried to wriggle free, Mo Qian’s gentle voice reassured her, "As long as you’re safe, I’m at ease."
The journey to find her had been fraught with fighting against the two men in ck. It had taken everything he had to reach this ce. Only when he saw that Ji Wei was unharmed did the weight pressing on his chest finally ease a little.
However, the sight he encountered upon entering filled Mo Qian’s heart with an inexplicable frustration.
His gaze shifted to Yamamoto Yu standing nearby, his expression icy and distant.
Yamamoto Yu silently closed the box containing the emerald ring. When he raised his head, what he saw was the two of them embracing each other intimately right in front of him.
A fleeting trace of jealousy shed through his hawk-like eyes but was quickly concealed. Leaning on his cane, he stepped forward with a smile. "Mr. Gu is awfully protective of his woman, I see."
Ji Wei straightened slightly in Mo Qian’s arms. She heard his voice drift down from above, carrying a faint edge of anger. "Mr. Yamamoto, what were you just trying to do to my wife?"
"This?" Yamamoto Yu’s smile didn’t waver as he raised the ornate box in his hand. "A small gift for my adopted daughter."
A small gift?
Ji Wei swallowed nervously.
The emerald ring was worth no less than tens of millions, and its antiquity was undeniable. There was no way she could ept such a "small gift."
"Adopted daughter?" Mo Qian frowned, casting Ji Wei a questioning look.
Ji Wei exined, "Mr. Yamamoto said I resemble someone he used to know. He insisted on making me his adopted daughter, but I didn’t agree."
Resemble someone from the past...
Mo Qian’s eyes flickered with surprise, and his gaze on Yamamoto Yu grew more wary.
Could this old man have developed some kind of infatuation with Ji Wei because of a familiar-looking face?
Otherwise, why would this cold-blooded man go as far as gifting an emerald ring? It was utterly absurd—like something out of a fairy tale.
When Yamamoto Yu heard Ji Wei’s response, he chuckled softly, a hint of helplessness in his expression.
Mo Qian’s voice gave nothing away, cold but measured. "Mr. Yamamoto, I think you should look elsewhere. My wife has a father and doesn’t need another—especially not a killer as her adoptive father."
Yamamoto Yu remained indifferent. "I would treat her just like my biological daughter. What’s wrong with that? With the influence I have in Tokyo, Miss Ji could have anything she desires."
At these words, Ji Wei’s eyes flickered. She suddenly looked at him with a faint, knowing smile. "Mr. Yamamoto, are you really someone who keeps his promises?"
