"Mr. Yamamoto is indeed impressive. Even dogs are trained to be so obedient—no wonder your subordinates follow suit," Ji Wei mocked.
Mr. Miyata’s expression darkened instantly. "What do you mean?"
She actuallypared them to dogs! This woman was beyond arrogant!
"What do I mean? Mr. Miyata, don’t you understand?" Ji Wei met Miyata’s gaze fearlessly.
Miyata’s blood surged as he raised his hand to act, but Yamamoto Yu cast him a warning nce. "Take your people outside first."
Miyata stood motionless, seething with unwillingness.
"Go!" Yamamoto Yu’s brows furrowed with impatience.
Miyata suppressed his anger and left reluctantly, his face still dark with displeasure.
Yamamoto Yu called a servant to take Akita away and motioned for Ji Wei to follow him inside.
As they walked into the living room, Yamamoto Yu used a basin brought by the servant to wash his hands and dry them. "Miss Ji, you still refuse to agree to be my goddaughter, don’t you?"
Ji Wei smiled faintly. "How could I dare to? If you were unhappy, you might take my life. I’m a timid person—I fear death greatly."
Yamamoto Yu knew she was being sarcastic but chose not to argue, and instead smiled. "Do you know why I asked you toe here?"
"Of course—to use me to threaten Mo Qian into submission," Ji Wei answered without hesitation.
Twice their deals had been sabotaged; Yamamoto Yu must be about to lose his temper.
"I’ve never stooped to using a woman as leverage," Yamamoto Yu said, gazing at her. "Follow me. I have something I want to show you."
Ji Wei was a little surprised, unsure of what this cunning old fox was up to. She had no choice but to get up and follow him.
The two walked through a long corridor and stopped at the door of a bedroom.
Yamamoto Yu took out a key to unlock the door, then indicated for Ji Wei to follow him inside.
Recalling thest time she was alone with Yamamoto Yu and narrowly escaped being assaulted by him, Ji Wei hesitated and stayed where she was.
"Don’t misunderstand. I would never do anything inappropriate to you again," Yamamoto Yu said, noticing her unease, and exined.
"That’s hard to say."
Ji Wei refused to believe him.
"This is my home. If I really wanted to do something to you, I would have done it long ago. Why go to such lengths?"
Ji Wei scrutinized him, her gaze steadied and her hand secretly gripping a shard of porcin hidden in her pocket.
If Yamamoto Yu had not changed his ways, she would rather risk her life to protect her dignity!
"Fine, I’ll go in."
After a moment, Ji Wei relented with a sigh.
The room’s decor was remarkably traditional. A conspicuous carved pearwood bed was positioned to the left, while to the right stood a tall bookshelf and a wine cab in sequence.
Yamamoto Yu walked to the desk and turned on amp, making the previously dim room much clearer.
Ji Wei saw Yamamoto Yu pause before the bookshelf, seemingly inspecting something. She couldn’t resist following him.
When she saw the row of photo frames disyed there, her whole body suddenly froze.
She didn’t recognize the others in the photos, but the young, beautiful woman—Ji Wei recognized her immediately as her mother!
"You... How do you have my mom’s photo?" Ji Wei blurted out, unable to hold back.
Yamamoto Yu seemed to have anticipated her question and showed no surprise. "If I told you your mother and I used to be friends, would you believe me?"
Ji Wei stared at him in shock, her eyes wide.
How could her mother know a crime syndicate boss?
Could there be some mistake?
After a long pause, Ji Wei finally found her voice again. "So, when you said I look like someone, you were referring to my mom?"
