Cold War between Mr. and Mrs Vaughn: He Regretted when Divorce
Chapter 58: Eugene Vaughn Picks Up Victoria Sinclair After Work
CHAPTER 58: CHAPTER 58: EUGENE VAUGHN PICKS UP VICTORIA SINCLAIR AFTER WORK
Victoria Sinclair nodded, then shook her head, "I want to leave, but it doesn’t seem that simple."
"That’s the difference between marriage and dating." Angela Austin commented, "That’s why I can never get married in this life. Divorce needs the other party’s consent, plus a one-month cooling-off period; it’s such a hassle."
Victoria Sinclair pursed her lips bitterly.
"Do you really not love him anymore?" Angela raised an eyebrow at her.
Victoria gently bumped her shoulder, "When you meet someone you like in the future, you’ll know that not loving someone is harder than loving them."
"So, you still love him!"
Victoria said nothing and continued passing out flyers.
When the two returned to the booth, they were stunned.
There were unexpectedly two salespeople from Kyanite Pharmaceuticals at the booth, busy introducing their special medicines and vaccines.
"What’s going on?" Angela was surprised.
Victoria was puzzled as well, shaking her head.
At this moment, the sales manager of Kyanite led a customer to Victoria, "This is President Vaughn’s wife, a pharmaceutical research expert with outstanding achievements in the field of special medicines. She also holds two patents for rare disease medications and is currently researching a special medicine for pediatric osteofibrous dysplasia, a focus that is receiving strong national support..."
Victoria was bewildered by the introduction.
"Madam, this is Director Lloyd from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, who is very interested in our special medicines."
Victoria was also eager to explore more possibilities in the field of traditional Chinese medicine and shook Director Lloyd’s hand excitedly, "Hello, Director Lloyd."
"I didn’t expect Mrs. Vaughn to have such remarkable achievements at such a young age."
Victoria responded modestly and became increasingly engaged in conversation with Director Lloyd.
The transaction was facilitated, and future academic exchanges were deepened.
The sales manager seized a moment to return to their own booth.
Unexpectedly for Victoria, Kyanite’s salespeople often brought customers interested in special medicines and vaccines to their booth.
At six o’clock, the venue closed.
After clearing the area, Victoria helped her colleagues pack up the booth, already too exhausted to stand up straight.
When they left the venue, it was already seven o’clock, and they hadn’t eaten dinner yet, leaving everyone hungry.
Angela suggested, "How about we all go to a restaurant together?"
"Sure, we’ll split the bill." A colleague echoed.
A few colleagues worried about their kids at home, so they politely declined.
Angela looped her arm through Victoria’s and asked, "Victoria, what about you? Do you want to come with us to a nearby restaurant before heading home?"
"Okay!" Victoria responded warmly, "Let’s not split the bill; after we eat, just take the receipts back to the company for reimbursement."
"Thank you, Mrs. Sinclair." Angela beamed.
The others were also very happy.
The group of more than ten headed toward the restaurant.
At that moment, a familiar luxury car stopped beside the pedestrian path they were about to pass.
Eugene Vaughn got out of the car.
Under the dim yellow streetlight, his tall frame in a long-sleeved black shirt and pants exuded an air of elegance and coolness. His handsome features suggested a refined and noble air, with a certain aloofness in the evening haze.
Victoria stood still, her heart skipping a beat, as she looked at him in a brief daze.
"It’s Eugene." Angela exclaimed in surprise.
Everyone stopped and looked over.
"Who is that?" Professor Lee asked.
Angela turned back and whispered, "That’s Victoria’s husband, the big boss of Kyanite Pharmaceuticals who introduced the business to us."
Everyone understood.
Eugene closed the car door and walked toward Victoria, nodding politely to everyone before looking at her with deep, gentle eyes, "Off work?"
Victoria felt a tinge of nervousness, "Yeah."
Professor Lee teased with a smile, "Is President Vaughn here to join us for dinner, or to pick up his wife for some couple’s time at home?"
"Either is fine by me." Eugene politely responded to Professor Lee, then gently asked Victoria, "Do you want to eat with everyone?"
Angela nudged Victoria toward Eugene.
Unprepared for the move, Victoria fell into his firm chest, and he wrapped his arm around her shoulder.
"Okay!" Angela urged with a playful smile, "Go on, your husband came to pick you up personally, you shouldn’t eat with us."
Before Victoria could speak, everyone smiled and waved goodbye to her, following Angela forward.
His chest was warm and comfortable.
Victoria, not daring to linger, quickly stepped away from his embrace and took a step back.
Eugene’s hand, left in midair, trembled slightly. He clenched his fingers, slowly lowered his hand, and turned to open the passenger door.
"Get in the car."
Victoria walked over, pointing to the back, "I’ll sit..."
Eugene interrupted, "It’s already been cleaned and disinfected, it’s very clean."
Understanding his meaning, Victoria didn’t insist, sitting in the passenger seat.
In the car, she fastened her seatbelt.
Taking a deep breath, she noticed the scent in his car had changed. It was a light fragrance of magnolia, very pleasant.
It reminded her of the magnolia tree at her grandma’s house, blooming most beautifully in April and May.
Eugene got into the car, without fastening his seatbelt, he handed her a small bag from the side.
"What is it?" Victoria curiously took it.
"Hungry?" Eugene buckled his seatbelt.
"Very." Victoria opened the bag to find a bottle of yogurt, a pack of bamboo shoots, and a small cake.
"Eat something to hold you over." He started the car and drove away.
"Can I eat in your car?" Victoria was surprised.
Even people who aren’t germaphobes can’t stand others eating in their car.
There’s the smell and the chance of making a mess.
"It’s fine, I can clean it if it gets dirty." Eugene drove attentively, with the lights on in the cabin to make it easier for her to eat.
Victoria lowered her head, a warm rush flowing through her, unable to suppress the smile on her lips.
It seemed he wasn’t angry about Vivian.
Victoria wanted to eat the bamboo shoots, but they would smell.
Not wanting to pollute the pleasant fragrance in Eugene’s car, she took out the yogurt instead, inserting a straw to drink.
It was her favorite mango flavor.
"Victoria." His voice was gentle.
Victoria’s heart trembled as she turned to look at him, "Yeah?"
The dim light in the cabin highlighted his handsome profile, making him look even more rugged.
Today, dressed all in black, he was so attractive her heart skipped a beat.
His tone was slightly heavy, "Do you really not care about the nonsense Vivian was spouting?"
Victoria paused for several seconds, looking ahead at the road, her mind in turmoil.
He revealed a lot with that question.
It showed he knew the reason behind it and wanted her to know that Vivian was spouting nonsense. He was also asking if she cared about it.
She didn’t know if she should answer honestly that she did care.
Or pretend not to care, being the "understanding," "considerate" wife men like.
Before she got married, her mom taught her.
Men don’t like being controlled by their wives. When they’re out socializing, they’re bound to encounter some women and flirt a bit. As a wife, you have to be understanding, considerate, tolerant, and keep an open mind. Only then will men not have a rebellious attitude.
In the past, she would definitely say she didn’t care.
Victoria hesitated for a moment, then nervously asked, "Do you want me to care, or not care?"
