CHAPTER 9: CHAPTER 9: COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE LACK OF A SEX LIFE

His humiliation felt like a slap to Victoria Sinclair’s face, leaving all her expectations shattered, filled with grievance and anger, her heart ached painfully.

She couldn’t help but get teary-eyed, her eyes growing wet.

Victoria turned her face away, looking towards the balcony, suppressing the bitterness in her heart with all her strength to hold back her tears.

Calming down from this grievance, Victoria looked at him and retorted, "Am I such a person?"

Eugene Vaughn replied firmly, "You are."

It was another heavy blow, and Victoria felt as if a piece of her heart had been gouged out, causing an empty ache. Provoked, she questioned, "According to you, you want to flirt around and indulge in pleasures, and I too can seek my own enjoyment outside, while we maintain this mutually uninvolved marriage?"

Eugene’s handsome face instantly turned cold, his fist slowly clenching, his voice heavy and forceful, "You better dispel that thought."

"Then what’s happening to us now?" Victoria was so aggrieved that she almost cried, her voice growing softer and weaker, "Married for two years, always sleeping in separate rooms, is it a problem with your mind, or your body?"

Eugene’s face darkened suddenly, and he stood up, walked to Victoria’s side, and gripped her arm to pull her up.

The sudden physical contact made Victoria look up at him nervously, "What are you doing?"

Eugene looked down at her, his Adam’s apple slightly rolling, his voice turning hoarse, "You’re complaining so much early in the morning instead of going to work, all because of a lack of intimacy. I’ll satisfy you now."

Victoria panicked, hurriedly freeing her hand and retreating nervously.

In her hurry, her calf hit the chair behind her, causing her to stumble backward.

Eugene, quick with his eyes and hands, reached out again to hold her arm, pulling her back to him.

Her whole body crashed into Eugene’s embrace, her hands pressed against his firm chest. Through the thin fabric of his shirt, she could faintly feel his slightly elevated body temperature, inhaling the elegant scent radiating from him.

Once stable, Victoria quickly removed her hands from his chest, bracing them on the table as she cautiously stepped back.

Her heart pounded like a deer running, her breath chaotic.

Though she didn’t say it out loud, her gaze at Eugene was blatantly scolding him.

Are you insane!

There was indeed no need to continue this conversation.

She picked up the backpack from the chair beside her, turned angrily, and walked toward the main door.

She changed her shoes at the entrance.

Eugene strode over.

Victoria put on her shoes and turned the doorknob.

With a loud "bang."

The door, opened halfway, was pushed back by the large hand behind her.

The sound startled Victoria, making her body go stiff, clutching her backpack nervously as she timidly turned around, looking up at him anxiously.

Eugene held the door with one hand, looking down at her.

To her, his robust and tall figure felt like Mount Tai pressing down on her, his dangerously chilly aura like an invisible claw gripping her neck, making it hard to breathe, her heart racing, feeling inexplicably anxious.

She knew women were weaker than men.

But she had never felt it so deeply as at this moment.

Whether it was physique, strength, or aura, she felt like a lamb to be slaughtered, just a squeeze from this man, and she’d shatter.

Her eyes were filled with clear panic, she whispered timidly, "Don’t act recklessly, being impulsive won’t have any good results."

Eugene’s gaze was as sharp as a predator’s, his voice hoarse and chilling, "Victoria Sinclair, remember, being restless, seeking pleasure aren’t things you should be doing."

Victoria nervously explained, "I just want to go to work."

Eugene lowered his hand and stepped back.

Victoria turned, pulled open the main door, and ran out, so flustered she didn’t even close the door.

She didn’t know how she made it along the way, dazedly entering the research lab, her heart empty as she sat distractedly in the lab.

"Victoria..."

Victoria felt a push on her body, coming back to her senses, and looked at the person who pushed her.

Angela Austin frowned, looking at her with a puzzled face, "What are you zoning out for?"

Victoria sat upright, withdrew her gaze, and shook her head, "It’s nothing."

Angela sighed gingerly, helplessly, "The only thing that could distract you in the lab must be him back at home."

Victoria, feeling guilty, immediately changed the topic, "Has the new batch of experimental monkeys arrived?"

Angela sat across from her, propping her chin with her hands, helplessly exhausted, "They’ve arrived, I used all my savings to pay for them upfront. I just went to the finance department for reimbursement, but was told that several distributors’ payments haven’t been received yet, so the company’s money has to be kept for payroll, and I have to wait for the payments to be received before I can get reimbursed."

Victoria patted her shoulder, smiling in comfort, "Year-end bonus, I’ll get you double."

Angela raised an eyebrow, teased, "Did you learn that from President Vaughn? Promising employees dreams?"

The smile on Victoria’s face gradually faded, feeling truly worn out, "Can we not talk about him?"

"Fought?" Angela maintained a stern expression, answering her own question, "Impossible, with the way things are between you two now, barely exchanging a few words all year, it’s hard to even have a fight!"

Who do you look down on?

Victoria opened her mouth, replaying the words in her mind, but they got stuck in her throat, in the end, she swallowed them.

She had to admit, it was indeed so.

Just then, there was a knock on the door.

Angela turned her head around.

Victoria lifted her gaze towards the door, assuming it was finance or a sales agent, she softly said, "Please come in."

The door was pushed open, Vivian Miller, with a face painted with heavy makeup and a fake smile, wearing a gorgeous red gown that accentuated her voluptuous figure, slowly walked in, "Sister-in-law, I didn’t expect your research lab to be so hard to find!"

Victoria’s eyes darkened.

Angela’s face changed abruptly, crossing her arms, her tone extremely confrontational, "What are you doing here?"

Vivian smiled at Angela, displaying her calm friendliness, "I’m here to see my sister-in-law."

Though Victoria disliked this woman, her good upbringing and temper prevailed, "Miss Miller, what brings you to see me?"
