Conquest Game: The Aloof Husband is Dangerous!
Chapter 32: Proving Myself with Strength
CHAPTER 32: CHAPTER 32: PROVING MYSELF WITH STRENGTH
Quinn Chase pouted, "Fired? Are you kidding me? Doesn’t everyone know you’re..."
Before she could finish, Crystal Langley nudged her, and she fell silent, but the dissatisfaction in her eyes was still obvious.
Laura Quincy wasn’t upset. She didn’t mind Quinn’s bluntness; she always said what was on her mind and never held back.
"I admit I’m what you call a ’parachute hire,’ but if I didn’t have any real skills, I don’t believe I would last long in Team Three. After all, Team Three never keeps slackers, even you three as clerks are all graduates from prestigious universities."
Her words were honest and reasonable, leaving Quinn Chase with no choice but to concede.
Crystal Langley quickly smoothed things over, "Laura’s right! Regardless of how we got into the translation department, staying here relies on real ability. I don’t know much about how the previous CEO behaved, but I’ve heard that the Fourth Young Master is very strict in this regard."
Violet Whitman added, "I’ll go get the materials ready, or else Team Leader Jennings will scold us again when he arrives."
Upon hearing this, Crystal Langley and Quinn Chase dispersed.
Laura Quincy shrugged and continued her work indifferently. In such a large company, avoiding gossip is impossible. There’s no need to be hostile towards those who gossip about her; proving herself through her abilities is enough.
At five-thirty in the afternoon, Laura Quincy was getting ready to leave work when she suddenly saw Emma, Team Leader Jennings’s secretary, looking anxious with a file in one hand and a bag in the other.
She couldn’t help but ask, "Emma, what’s going on?"
Emma quickly replied, "My little one is waiting at the kindergarten with no one to pick them up. The teacher has already called me several times, saying that my child is the only one left. But I still have a file to deliver to Young Master Thorne’s secretary, Lemon."
Laura Quincy wasn’t one to meddle in other people’s affairs, but the situation made her feel conflicted.
"Quincy, could you help me deliver it? Just consider it as me owing you a favor, okay?"
With her asking so earnestly, it seemed a bit heartless to refuse.
"Okay, Emma, no need to be so formal. You go pick up your child from the kindergarten!"
"Quincy, thank you!"
Looking at the file in her hand, Laura could only head towards the elevator. Unless absolutely necessary, she really didn’t want to go to the 59th floor.
She was supposed to meet her boyfriend Jasper tonight, but it seemed like she would have to delay.
She took out her phone and sent a message: Jasper, something came up at work last minute, I’ll be ten minutes late.
Jasper Hawthorne’s car was already parked downstairs at Aegis Group. When he saw the message, he couldn’t help but look up at the 36th and 59th floors, where the lights were still on.
As soon as Laura stepped out of the elevator, she noticed the entire floor’s atmosphere was quite tense. The secretaries from the CEO’s office glanced at her as they passed by and then quickly walked away.
Uh... what’s going on?
Relying on memory, she headed towards Lemon’s office. After taking a few steps, she ran into Mason Cross, the special assistant to the CEO. He looked at her as if she were a lifesaver and handed her the coffee he was holding, "Take this in for the Boss."
Laura refused without a second thought, "I’m just here to deliver a file to Lemon."
Mason glanced at the file in her hand, "This is for the Boss too, just take it in together!"
Laura was exasperated and eyed him skeptically.
Mason gave a wry smile, "I wouldn’t joke around with something like this."
Though reluctant, Laura had no choice but to comply.
Knock knock—
"Come in!" The deep magnetic male voice carried an undertone of anger.
