Chapter 45: What Does This Have to Do With Me?
CHAPTER 45: CHAPTER 45: WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH ME?
Laura Quincy walked over and leaned against the desk, "Are the documents I asked you to prepare yesterday ready?"
Crystal Langley took a stack of files from the drawer and handed them to her, "Here you go!"
Laura Quincy took them and was about to return to her seat; she was never much interested in gossip.
Crystal Langley suddenly called out to her, "Laura, didn’t you translate a document from that company in Zarain a few days ago?"
Laura Quincy thought for two seconds, "Yes, I translated an Arabic document, why?"
Quinn Chase gave her a meaningful look, "Could it really be such a coincidence?"
Laura Quincy was stunned for two seconds, "What do you mean?"
Before Quinn Chase could speak, Violet Whitman interjected with a smile, "Competition in the business world is always fierce, both openly and covertly, but that’s a matter for the higher-ups. Why should we worry? Just focus on our own work!"
These words were spoken very cleverly, lightly diffusing the sharp topic just now.
Quinn Chase also realized that she had been impulsive. Laura was a newcomer, and this couldn’t possibly be related to her; they were just overthinking.
"No more worrying, I’m heading to the 19th floor to deliver a document." With that, Crystal Langley left first.
Quinn Chase took her teacup and went to the pantry.
Violet Whitman smiled at Laura Quincy and also slipped away. In an instant, all the gossipers were gone.
Laura Quincy bit her lip and returned to her seat. Did Quinn Chase mean to suspect her?
What does this have to do with her?
So absurd!
On Friday afternoon, Laura Quincy was translating while researching on the computer; the current business partner was a large Gaulian airline company. Everything from the company profile to technical analysis needed translation, and she needed to understand some aviation jargon. It was really a headache!
She rubbed her temples; just gathering the information made her head spin.
Since joining Aegis Group, she realized how diverse the group’s business sectors were! Finance, securities, oil, real estate, aviation, hospitality, media...
However, the group’s hospitality sector is managed by the Hawthorne Family’s eldest, Wade Hawthorne, while the media sector is managed by the second, Wyatt Hawthorne. These are two separate subsidiaries; Group One and Group Two specifically serve them, making their workload much lighter compared to Group Three.
So, the employees of Group Three received several translation files daily, with varying importance and urgency, and occasionally had to travel; it was an exhaustingly hectic pace!
As a result, everyone was very busy, and there was rarely any chance to communicate with each other.
Now, it was said that Group Three was having a dinner gathering tonight, with Crystal, Quinn, and Violet also invited this year. The three were extremely happy and brought fancy clothes from home early in the morning.
Laura Quincy was the last to find out, being the newcomer.
She didn’t mind, thinking gatherings were just about getting to know colleagues; there’s no need to dress too formally.
However, she had already arranged to meet Jasper Hawthorne early in the morning. Everyone had been so busy for the week, and finally, on a Friday night, she still had to be with her colleagues...
As a newcomer, not attending was certainly not an option.
So she sent a text to her boyfriend: Jasper, our Group Three colleagues are having a dinner gathering tonight, can’t get out of it. I’ll come find you after we finish, okay?
Jasper Hawthorne had planned to have a romantic dinner with his girlfriend tonight, and then have a good chat, but it seemed it would have to be postponed.
Jealously, he replied: It seems colleagues are more important than your boyfriend!
Laura Quincy smiled and quickly typed: No way! I’ll find an excuse to leave once we’ve almost finished eating.
No problem, I’ll wait for you.
Laura Quincy initially thought the gathering was just a meal at a hotel and then everyone would go their own way, but unexpectedly, there was more activity after dinner...
Asher Thorne, the group leader of Group Three, was also here tonight. He boldly announced, "It’s rare for everyone in Group Three to be here tonight, with plenty of beauties. Later, we’ll head straight to the VIP room on the 16th floor. This Young Master has already booked it."
The people at the table immediately raised their glasses to cheer, all intent on getting on good terms with Young Master Thorne.
Laura Quincy felt troubled, as she had planned to slip away, but now she didn’t know when she could leave.
When everyone was leaving the table to go to the private room, she quietly walked over to Asher Thorne, "Young Master Thorne, I have an urgent matter, can I leave first?"
Asher Thorne glanced at her, "Of course... not."
Hearing the first two words, Laura Quincy was momentarily delighted, but then it took a complete turn, with him not agreeing at all.
Reluctant to give up, Laura Quincy pleaded, "I really have something very important that I must attend to."
Asher Thorne squinted his eyes, "All the employees of Group Three are here, do you think it’s appropriate for you to leave early?"
Tonight, Jason and a few others were also at The Imperial partying. He needed to create some opportunities for his friends, didn’t he?
Laura Quincy: "..."
Asher Thorne added, "Or, your reason can convince me."
Laura Quincy: "..."
If she said she had a date with her boyfriend, it probably wouldn’t move Young Master Thorne at all.
