CHAPTER 55: CHAPTER 55: EVERYTHING IS GOING ACCORDING TO PLAN (PART 2)
Just getting into the car, Jasper Hawthorne handed her a large bouquet of roses, "Laura, happy birthday!"
Laura Quincy happily received them, and the previous unpleasantness vanished instantly.
"Thank you for remembering."
"Silly girl! Of course, I’d remember!"
Jasper Hawthorne fondly ruffled her hair, and for a moment, there was a flicker of reluctance in his eyes, but it disappeared quickly.
After this birthday, he really needed to find the right moment to talk to Laura about breaking up, and it had to be before Aegis Group’s 60th anniversary celebration.
L’Empereur Restaurant.
Tonight, Jasper essentially spent a fortune to book the entire place and even hired a violinist to perform. The venue was adorned with vibrant roses and colorful balloons, creating a beautifully romantic atmosphere.
Laura was stunned as she walked in and bashfully complained, "Isn’t this... a bit too extravagant?"
Jasper smirked, "Do you like it?"
Laura’s face showed a hint of happily shy, "Yes, I love it."
She immediately felt that she must have misunderstood last night, causing herself to worry over nothing. How could Jasper, who was so good to her, possibly betray her!
As soon as they sat down, the restaurant staff began serving beautifully arranged dishes, making Laura feel like she was in a dream, as if scenes from a TV drama were replaying in her life...
Could it be that Jasper was going to propose to her today?
She thought to herself, pleasantly lost in her own imagination...
Jasper placed the sliced steak onto his girlfriend’s plate and casually asked, "I heard your company is having a 60th-anniversary gala soon. Will you be attending?"
Laura paused for half a second, "I heard from my department colleagues that it’s this Friday evening, but someone in a minor role like mine definitely won’t attend. There are many translation tasks lately, and I might even have to travel for work."
Jasper raised his eyebrows, "Travel?"
Laura put a piece of the cut beef into her mouth, "It’s not certain yet!"
Jasper acknowledged and didn’t pursue the topic further; sometimes, too much focus might seem insincere.
He actually hoped that Laura wouldn’t attend the gala on Friday, thus avoiding a direct confrontation.
After dinner, Jasper suggested going to the movies. During which, he stepped out to take a phone call for about ten minutes. Laura didn’t find it strange since work matters could naturally take a while.
After the movie, Jasper drove his girlfriend home.
Before getting out of the car, Laura gathered her courage and said, "Jasper, why don’t you come up for a bit?"
Having dated Jasper for almost two years, she felt it was time to give herself to him. Even though he hadn’t proposed tonight, her 26th birthday was very happy, very fulfilling!
Moreover, she was at the age to get married.
Against all expectations—
Jasper just gave her a light kiss on the forehead, "You have work tomorrow, rest early! Goodnight!"
A faint sense of disappointment swept over Laura’s heart, and she replied, "Alright, goodnight."
She comforted herself: Jasper must cherish her; he wasn’t like other men who only think with the lower half of their body.
Thinking this way made her appreciate her boyfriend even more.
Jasper watched Laura go inside, then started the car and left. He had promised Serena that he would clear things up with Laura before the company’s anniversary celebration, so he’d have to find another opportunity.
Today, after all, was her birthday, considered the last thing he could do for her.
