Conquest Game: The Aloof Husband is Dangerous!
Chapter 98 - 94: Dangerous Looks
CHAPTER 98: CHAPTER 94: DANGEROUS LOOKS
She carefully tucked Twinkle into bed, ready to leave when she suddenly heard him murmur in his sleep, "Mom..."
Although the voice was small, in the quiet environment it was clear as day.
Laura Quincy felt a slight pang in her heart. Knowing this child had never had a mother, she was overwhelmed with sympathy. After her own mother had passed away in a car accident when she was fifteen, she had dreamt of her almost every night during that time...
So she could completely relate to the sadness of missing one’s mother...
Her fingers involuntarily brushed against Twinkle’s eyebrows. What an adorable, well-behaved child. His mother in heaven would surely feel heartache knowing this, wouldn’t she?
Suddenly, she remembered that her friend Nina had said Twinkle’s eyebrows resembled her own...
She couldn’t help but take another look, and the more she looked, the more she felt...
She shook her head abruptly. What was she thinking? How could Twinkle possibly resemble her? Even if there was a resemblance, it was just a coincidence!
After all, there are people in the world who look alike yet are complete strangers...
With that thought, her heart felt a bit more at ease.
Leaving Twinkle’s room, she went straight to her guest room downstairs. The only inconvenience of the guest room was the lack of a private bathroom, so she had to use the one outside...
It was already close to 11 p.m. and most of the servants had gone to rest in the separate building at the back, leaving the entire villa very quiet.
After finishing her shower, as Laura opened the bathroom door ready to leave, she was startled by a figure in the dark, and before she could scream, her mouth was covered.
"Mmm..."
Jason Hawthorne dragged her back into the bathroom...
Now free to speak, Laura said irritably, "Are you crazy?! Scaring someone in the middle of the night is terrifying!"
Jason, his face dark, asked, "Who did you have lunch with today?"
Laura was taken aback. Wasn’t this man switching topics?
"With a classmate of mine!"
"A classmate?"
"Yes! Why?"
"Are you sure it’s just a classmate?"
Jason’s tone was displeased. Laura looked at him baffled, "Did you have someone follow me?"
Her questioning only made Jason more displeased. He snorted coldly, "If you hadn’t done anything wrong, why worry about being followed?"
In truth, he hadn’t followed her at all. Running into her and Jonah Xavier having lunch earlier was purely coincidental.
But Laura misunderstood.
Laura was furious, feeling as if she had no personal freedom, and now being followed! Just the thought of it was infuriating!
"What wrong did I do? Is having a meal with a classmate not allowed? Don’t I have the right to make my own friends?"
Jason stared at her intently, "He’s not your boyfriend?"
Laura felt an urge to punch him, gritting her teeth, "I’ve seen unreasonable people, but never anyone as unreasonable as you!"
Jason’s brows furrowed slightly. Was she implying he’d wronged her?
"Didn’t you say he was your boyfriend yourself?"
"Bullshit! When did I..."
Halfway through her sentence, something suddenly dawned on Laura, and she looked at Jason incredulously, "Did Jasper tell you?"
Jason raised an eyebrow, "Who else?"
Laura rolled her eyes helplessly, "Why would he tell you that? He knows we..."
Jason spoke truthfully, "We were handling some business at your office building during lunch today, and he saw you first."
Laura was speechless. No wonder she’d felt someone watching her during lunch; her sixth sense hadn’t failed her...
This was too much of a coincidence!
"That day, I lied to him. Counselor Xavier is just a high school classmate. We met up for lunch because I was helping him translate an English legal document."
After figuring out what had happened, Laura told the truth. When you’re in a relationship, honesty is essential; there’s no need to create unnecessary misunderstandings.
Jason’s mood didn’t improve despite her explanation, "Do you care a lot about Jasper’s opinion?"
Laura was astonished, "How could I possibly? I consider him a stranger! I told him I had a boyfriend just to stop him from bothering me."
In her agitation, Laura let something slip.
Jason picked up on the key words, his dark eyes narrowing dangerously, "Jasper’s been bothering you all along?"
Laura pouted, "I wouldn’t call it harassment! He just shows up in front of me from time to time, saying strange things, acting like he’s looking out for me from some lofty position. I really don’t know where he gets this sense of superiority. We’re ancient history, okay? Who wants him nagging at me about my life choices!"
Talking about a scumbag got Laura all worked up, and she vented all her frustration on Jason.
Jason raised an eyebrow, "Don’t you think you’re saying this to the wrong person?"
Laura responded irritably, "He’s your nephew, isn’t it your duty as an elder to discipline him? He was the one who cheated first and now has the audacity to accuse me. Does that make sense?"
Jason soothed her, "It doesn’t make sense at all. I’ll deal with him."
Laura glanced at him, "How are you going to discipline him?"
Jason’s dark eyes narrowed further, "What? Feeling sorry for him?"
Laura scoffed, "Why would I? I just don’t want him knowing I complained to you about him, lest he concocts some new excuse to come bug me. He’s already suspicious about us..."
She held back the rest of her words.
Then she cautiously observed Jason’s expression, noticing there was nothing unusual.
Jason Hawthorne knew exactly what his nephew was up to, "I know."
His words took Laura Quincy by surprise, "You know?"
Jason Hawthorne snorted coldly, "With his little tricks, he still wants to show off in front of me?"
Laura Quincy fell silent. In front of Jason Hawthorne, Jasper was practically transparent. After all, he was still young and no match for the cunning and shrewd Jason Hawthorne.
In front of Jason Hawthorne, he could only be obliterated without a trace!
"I’m going back to my room."
With the conversation at this stage, there was no need to continue, it was late, and going back to sleep was the right thing to do...
Saying this, she planned to leave, but Jason Hawthorne blocked her path and dominantly pressed her against the marble wall.
The cold sensation on her back and the heated pressure in front left Laura Quincy miserable...
Jason Hawthorne was quite satisfied, lingering his gaze over her and finally stopping on her rosy pink lips. Just as he leaned down, her delicate fingers blocked him...
His eyes glanced in displeasure at the woman in front of him, the corners of his eyes lifting upwards.
Laura Quincy stammered, "Someone might come in."
Jason Hawthorne reassured her, "No, all the servants have left."
Laura Quincy: "Uh..."
And then, her mouth was sealed.
There was no way to escape... this confinement...
She had just showered, and her whole body emitted a fresh scent of body wash...
Laura Quincy was flustered by his teasing, if she had more strength, she really wanted to kick him away!
Bastard!
Always bullying her at any time and place!
The bathroom seemed more exciting than the room, and for Jason Hawthorne, it was a novel first; he didn’t even think of carrying Laura Quincy back to continue in the room...
Laura Quincy was embarrassed and angry, nearly ready to "fight" him. Darned stinky man!
"What if someone finds out?"
"In my domain, I can’t make the call?"
"But... what if..."
Before Laura Quincy could finish, she had no way to speak, just because this man was... too outrageous!
For a moment, the bathroom was suffused with a romantic pink hue.
From start to finish, Laura Quincy remained tense, fearing they might be discovered. After all, there were many people around, and she didn’t want any unpleasant rumors spreading...
Compared to her tension, Jason Hawthorne was unable to resist his excitement; a different environment indeed brought an extraordinary feeling.
Excitement and freshness coexisted!
An hour later, Jason Hawthorne carried a soft and weak Laura Quincy back to her room, and she quickly rolled into the covers, wrapping herself tightly...
She was really exhausted, in need of serious sleep!
Just as Jason Hawthorne was about to lie down next to her, she shunned him, "If you don’t leave now, I won’t have to get up all morning tomorrow! Are you trying to make sure everyone knows?"
Jason Hawthorne was speechless, yet he understood she had a point.
Oh well! There’s plenty of time for that later!
The next morning, it was another sunny day.
Justin Hawthorne was up early, pacing back and forth in front of Laura Quincy’s room door several times but resisted knocking. A servant, seeing this, wanted to help the little master knock, but was stopped.
"Sister told me a story until very late last night, let her sleep more! I’m going to wake Dad!"
Saying this, he trotted upstairs.
At that time, Jason Hawthorne was still sleeping. The moment his son opened the door, he awoke, "What’s the matter?"
Justin Hawthorne walked to his dad’s bedside, "Dad, shame on you! Twinkle is up and you’re still in bed! Didn’t you used to get up early every morning to jog?"
Jason Hawthorne was stumped by his son’s questioning. Indeed! He used to get up for a morning jog every day, but ever since Laura Quincy, they often fought till one or two in the morning...
Plus, with all the physical exertion, how could he get up at six or seven?
"Dad worked late last night."
"Hmm... Dad, you used to work late too!"
"Uh..."
Jason Hawthorne was at a loss for words, realizing his son was no less sharp than him!
"Dad will get up now."
"Then I’ll have Mrs. Miller prepare breakfast."
"And what about Miss Quincy?"
"Sister is still asleep; I was thinking about whether to wake her up, but then I decided against it." Justin Hawthorne said in his childish voice.
Jason Hawthorne gave his son a satisfied glance, "Hmm, Twinkle knowing how to restrain himself is a good thing. Sister told you a story until you fell asleep before going to wash up herself, she must be tired. Letting her sleep more is the right thing to do."
Justin Hawthorne’s eyes lit up, and he scooted over, "Dad, I noticed you care more about sister than before."
Jason Hawthorne touched his nose and asked casually, "Do I?"
