CHAPTER 135: CHAPTER 78: SUPPRESSING OVULATION
Rebecca Quentin smiled and walked over. "Mr. Jones."
Skyler Jones adjusted his sitting position, considerate as always. "I know you like Blue Mountain coffee without sugar. I’ve already ordered it for you."
"Thank you."
Picking up the coffee, Rebecca sipped it gently.
Staring intently at Rebecca, Skyler asked, "Becca, is it too sudden for me to ask to meet you again?"
Rebecca set down the coffee cup and shook her head. "Mr. Jones, if you’re willing, we can still be friends."
Skyler smiled and picked up his coffee.
Full of guilt, Rebecca blurted out, "Mr. Jones, I am so sorry about... well, about us. But please believe me, I was serious about our relationship during those days I was trying to date you. I genuinely considered a future for us, but I just couldn’t move on from my past."
"I’ve said before, we don’t need explanations between us."
Rebecca would never see the true coldness and darkness on Skyler’s face. In front of her, he only wanted to show his friendly and calm side. Each time he saw her smiling radiantly, he felt like pampering her, and his mood lifted.
She had once told him that she could only feel completely relaxed when she was with him. He felt the same way. Having always lived in darkness, he only knew there was sunshine in the world after meeting her.
Rebecca flashed a light smile. "Yeah, we can be the best of friends."
Noticing a few strands of her black, silky hair falling across her face, Skyler wanted to reach out and tuck them behind her ear, but he just sat there, absentmindedly watching and listening to her speak.
After a long while, Skyler finally spoke. "Becca, I’ve found a new secretary, but I didn’t bring her with me this time. Do you mind helping me one more time in T City?"
Rebecca asked earnestly, "When would that be?"
"This afternoon. I have a meeting with a foreign businessman."
"But my English isn’t very good."
"It’s fine. All you need to do is pour coffee and organize documents, nothing complicated."
Skyler had said the same thing when he first invited Rebecca to be his part-time secretary...
Rebecca nodded lightly. "Alright." One afternoon should be fine, she reasoned. Howard Geoffrey will probably be busy until late anyway.
"Then let’s go after we finish our coffee."
"Okay."
Since there was no need to prepare anything, Rebecca left the hotel with Skyler.
But no one expected that as Rebecca was following Skyler to the car, a familiar black car suddenly stopped right beside them.
Before anyone had time to react, Howard Geoffrey stepped out of the car.
Intimately slipping an arm around Rebecca’s waist, Howard smiled at Skyler, his tone the usual polite one reserved for business matters. "Mr. Jones, you should have let me know you were in T City. I was just thinking of discussing a project with you."
Skyler smiled. "Mr. Geoffrey."
Rebecca frowned at the possessive, handsome man beside her and whispered, "How did you get back so soon?"
Howard leaned close to Rebecca’s ear, his deep voice heavy with suppressed emotion. "I’ll deal with you later!"
"Wha... what?"
Rebecca didn’t understand. Just then, Skyler’s voice came over, "It’s up to Mr. Geoffrey to make decisions about the project. "Oversky" has always looked up to "Skytop"."
With a hint of a smile on his lips, Howard said, "You’re too kind, Mr. Jones..."
Skyler continued, "A few foreign businessmen came to T City to discuss another project with me today. I originally wanted Becca to be my temporary secretary, as she has experience. But since Mr. Geoffrey is back, I guess she won’t have time this afternoon... What a pity. I’ll have to fight this battle alone!"
"Mr. Jones..."
Rebecca had just started to speak when she felt Howard’s grip tighten around her waist. Helplessly, she swallowed her words.
Skyler finally said, "Becca, I have to go now. We’ll go out to eat some other time."
Rebecca felt the pressure on her waist still hadn’t eased, so she smiled and replied, "Alright. I’m sorry I couldn’t help you."
"No problem. We’ll see each other again."
"Goodbye."
Rebecca waved goodbye to Skyler.
Skyler, his faint smile still in place, finally turned his gaze forward and started the engine.
