CHAPTER 313: CHAPTER 168: THE ONLY WOMAN HE LOVES IS HER (PART 2)

"Whether or not you’re scheming is none of my concern, so there’s no need for you to explain these things to me specifically."

Alice Robinson looked at Rebecca Quentin and said seriously, "Miss Quentin, I’m here today to explain something else to you as well. I concocted a story relating to your Aunt and your mother’s death to deceive you, just to keep you in New York."

Mentioning this, Rebecca Quentin got angry, "I was just about to ask you, why did you do this?"

Alice’s voice turned softly melancholic, "Miss Quentin, whether you believe it or not, I’ve always taken a go-with-the-flow attitude towards feelings... I do like Howard Geoffrey, but I know matters of the heart can’t be forced. So, when Howard went to Alton to find you time and again, I realized his heart was never truly with me... I envy how you can make Howard care so much about you, yet I silently wish you both happiness... Of course, I’m not so magnanimous as to watch someone I like be with another woman. I just think, if he’s happy, I’ll be happy too. So, those excessive words I said to you that day were just to test your feelings for Howard. Seeing how angry you got that day, I think my retreat is the right decision..."

Although Alice’s words did not fully convince Rebecca at that moment, the gentle tone and sincere attitude made them seem truthful.

"Since I’m already speaking, I’ll tell you everything... please don’t mind the child I’m carrying, it’s just an accident. Howard and I have been together for so long but never lived together. I didn’t know how Howard came into my room that night, let alone with such... desire. It wasn’t until the next day that we found out that Aunt had drugged the soup she gave him... I am pregnant, but I never thought of keeping the child. That’s why I lied in front of Aunt to separate the child’s relationship with Howard; I just didn’t want to ruin your relationship with him... Miss Quentin, I’m flying back to France tonight and will never appear before you and Howard again. I hope you cherish your feelings with him and don’t let Howard be disappointed."

Afternoon.

Rebecca Quentin was playing in the living room with Andrew when she suddenly heard the sound of a lock being turned.

This was usually the time Howard returned from the company, so...

The door opened, and she saw a familiar tall figure through the corner of her eye, but she pretended not to notice and continued playing with Andrew.

Andrew laughed heartily at Rebecca’s antics, making the whole living room’s atmosphere lively.

Rebecca watched Andrew laugh so happily, her face glowing with maternal warmth...

Howard stood at the door, watching Rebecca’s long-lost smile with such focus that he was almost entranced. It took him a few moments to regain his senses, close the door, and walk towards her.

Rebecca naturally noticed Howard’s tall and straight figure approaching but stubbornly refrained from looking at him.

Howard sat down beside her and tossed the car keys onto the coffee table, asking softly, "When is he turning three months?"

"In nine days," Rebecca answered, her gaze still fixed on Andrew’s tender face.

Howard took Andrew from her arms and lovingly kissed his soft, pink cheek, "Don’t you think he’s looking more and more like me?"

Rebecca wanted to roll her eyes. Did this even need to be said? Andrew was a miniature version of him that was obvious to anyone.

"Little one, is it fun being home with mommy? Tomorrow, daddy will take you to the company to play with the uncles and aunties there, alright?" Howard said with fatherly affection.

Andrew’s bright eyes gazed at his father as he gurgled out babyish gibberish, "@#¥¥%%%!..."

Howard laughed and asked, "What does Andrew want to say to daddy?"

Andrew responded, " ... ..."

Howard interpreted the babble playfully, "Sister?"

Andrew continued with his indistinct baby sounds, " ... ...ah... ..."

Howard’s usually stern face broke into a loving smile, "So, Andrew wants a sister, does he? Well, daddy has to work hard then..."

Howard’s words made Rebecca’s face flush immediately.

Without any warning, Howard turned his head and lightly brushed his lips against Rebecca’s pink cheek, whispering, "Like father, like son, we both love girls."

Suddenly kissed, Rebecca’s face turned even redder as she retorted irritably, "If you want one, go have one then!"

Howard gazed at her charming face, his voice hoarse, "That will require your consent!"

Rebecca was at a loss for words, her face already red to her ears.

Knowing Rebecca’s shyness, Howard didn’t tease her further, focusing back on Andrew, "Little one, come on, say ’daddy’..."

Dinner was prepared by Rebecca herself while Andrew slept.

Although she made a serving for Howard, during dinner, Rebecca did not initiate any conversation with him. However, the atmosphere at the table was not tense, probably due to their improved moods.

After dinner, Rebecca was tidying up the dishes when Howard received a phone call and went to the sliding window.

Rebecca was about to carry the plates into the kitchen when her eyes fell on Howard standing by the window on the call.

He seemed quite busy recently, often discussing work even at home.

From behind, his figure still exuded that cool aloofness and innate arrogance, maintaining a sense of distance. But somehow, that sense of distance had entirely faded for her.

She vividly remembered how cold he was, making her learn "obedience" with such cruelty that it was unforgettable...

So, Howard was always a tough character, but she didn’t know when he began to shed this demeanor in front of her.

At that moment, Howard stood with one hand in his pocket, chatting and laughing over the phone.

The unyielding position he held in business circles stemmed from his exceptional networking skills. Watching his graceful manner as he communicated with business associates in fluent English, his natural confidence and prowess captivated her deeply.

She became lost in watching, entranced...

Until he seemed to notice her gaze and turned around, bringing her back to reality as she nonchalantly walked into the kitchen.

Washing the dishes in the kitchen, Rebecca remained distracted...

Being with him actually feels really good...
