CHAPTER 83: CHAPTER 52: HE DIDN’T HURT HER

Mrs. Geoffrey suddenly became serious. "You can’t say that. When I brought you here, I already promised you that I would make sure you and Howard remarry."

「New York City Center, XX Building, sixty-ninth floor.」

Beneath him lay the bustling city of New York. Howard Geoffrey stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, his brow slightly furrowed and his gaze deep, as if lost in thought.

Jason Wood walked in from outside and said respectfully, "Boss."

"Hmm," Howard replied, his voice very soft.

"Keith Antony is barely alive, but he insists he was just following Miss Quinn’s orders. He didn’t even know about Miss Quentin’s chest injury. I was wondering... could it be Miss Quinn who..."

Howard turned and strode forward. "She’s just a sentimental woman at heart; she wouldn’t do such a thing."

Jason Wood hurried to keep pace with Howard, nodding. "I also believe in Miss Quinn’s character. She would never do anything truly harmful."

Howard sat in the chair behind his desk and lifted a hand to pinch the bridge of his nose, his thoughts clearly hitting a snag.

Seeing Howard’s gesture, Jason Wood asked attentively, "Boss, are you tired? Should I call a doctor?"

Howard waved his hand, indicating he was fine. "You may go. I want some time to think."

"Yes, sir."

Jason Wood had only taken a few steps toward the door when he suddenly stopped. He hesitated, turning back, wondering if he should tell Howard the rumor he had heard.

"Is there something else?" Howard’s tone made it less of a question and more of a statement. He knew his subordinates too well.

"Boss, a new company has been rising rapidly lately. It’s called "Oversky." They’ve already secured several major projects in New York. Recently, they even announced plans to enter the Flowery Kingdom market, aiming to replace "Skytop" and dominate the entire market there. Moreover, just yesterday, the Flowery Kingdom government announced plans to build Asia’s tallest commercial building. As soon as the bidding was announced, "Oversky" put out word that they are determined to crush "Skytop" and win this project!"

"Oh?"

Howard raised an eyebrow. Even when facing a formidable competitor, he exuded an innate confidence and cool arrogance.

Jason Wood continued, "The bidding starts in about a week. Boss, you might have to return to the Flowery Kingdom personally..."

"Wait. What did you say this group is called?"

Jason Wood replied, ""Oversky" Group."

Oversky?

Howard seemed particularly sensitive to this name, and for a moment, he was lost in thought.

"Boss, if there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave."

"Hmm."

When Christine Quinn arrived at the office, Howard had his eyes closed, feigning sleep.

Christine deliberately slowed her steps, intending to surprise him, but Howard, a light sleeper, had already stirred.

"You’re no fun," Christine pouted playfully. "You’re always so alert."

A gentle expression softened Howard’s features. "What brings you here?"

"Marie said she misses you, so I came to ask if you’re coming home tonight. You’ve been so busy with work since you got back to America that you haven’t had a chance to come home."

Howard took Christine’s hand and kissed it gently. "I’m sorry, I haven’t had any time to spend with you both."

Christine hugged Howard’s neck affectionately from behind. "Silly," she said without a hint of complaint, "you don’t need to say such things to me. But I bought a lot of groceries this afternoon. I’m planning to cook for you tonight. So, are you coming home?"

Howard replied, a helpless note in his voice, "Mom wants me to go to her place tonight."

Christine visibly stiffened.

Howard pulled Christine onto his lap and kissed her neck. "What’s wrong? Angry?"

Christine lowered her gaze and shook her head. "I’ve never been angry with your mother. I only blame myself... She was so set on having a grandson, only to discover that the granddaughter wasn’t even her own flesh and blood. Naturally, she can’t forgive me."

"We’ll take it slow. You know how stubborn she is," Howard said.

Christine nodded. "Yes. In that case, you should go to her place tonight."

Howard smirked, a playful glint in his eyes. "Just like that? You trust me that much?"

Christine slid off Howard’s lap and said with a mock pout, "I’ve already ’given’ you to her for two years. Am I supposed to be scared of one more night?"

Howard chuckled at her words. Just then, his cell phone rang.

Christine said, "Howard, you look busy. I’ll head back first then. Marie will cry if she wakes up and doesn’t see me."

Howard took out his cell phone, glanced at the screen, and nodded to Christine. "Alright."

Christine left immediately.

The phone number displayed on the screen made Howard frown slightly. He pressed the answer key.

Rebecca Quentin’s overly earnest voice came through the phone, "Ex-husband, your mother said you’re coming to stay tonight, so I should get ready too... Do you prefer pink or light purple pajamas? Uh, I’m not really sure about your preferences... Well, in that case, I’ll wear the pink ones. Waiting for you!"
