CHAPTER 737: CHAPTER 736: LING YUNSHU’S OFFER OF PEACE (4)

Miss Chuxia’s heart was suddenly occupied by a warm current that slowly flowed throughout her body, and the gloomy mood caused by Ling Yunshu dissipated all at once.

Miss Chuxia’s lips, already upturned, now wore an even deeper smile that she couldn’t suppress.

Seeing that it was getting late, Aunt Zhu spoke up, "Miss Chuxia, would you like me to prepare dinner tonight, or will you cook yourself?"

Usually, it was Miss Chuxia who did the cooking, with Aunt Zhu only coming by regularly to clean.

Aunt Zhu’s voice brought Miss Chuxia back to her senses. She came to, remembering that Shi Che had said he would come back and have dinner with her that evening.

She looked up and replied to Aunt Zhu, "I’ll do it myself."

Even though the villa had been empty for over a month, the fridge was still packed with ingredients. Miss Chuxia opened it, selected a few things Shi Che liked to eat, and then began cooking.

Her movements were brisk and efficient. Because she was in a good mood, she found herself humming a tune while cooking. Over an hour later, Miss Chuxia had prepared three dishes and a soup and placed them one by one on the dining table.

She glanced at the clock on the wall—it was almost seven now. Shouldn’t Shi Che be returning around this time?

Miss Chuxia went back to the kitchen to tidy up. When she came out, it was half-past seven. Subconsciously, she looked toward the door, but there was still no sign of Shi Che. After a moment of thought, she decided to call Shi Che and ask about his whereabouts.

She went back to her room to get her phone, only to find two unread text messages in it, both sent by Ling Yunshu.

Miss Chuxia swept a glance at them without expression, then pressed delete. After deletion, her finger hesitated for a moment. She took a deep breath and blocked the number outright.

-

When Miss Chuxia called, Shi Che was buried in paperwork that had almost piled up into a small mountain. His phone was on the desk, vibrating with a buzz.

Hearing the sound, Shi Che glanced up, saw Miss Chuxia’s call, and his usually stern face softened instantly. He reached out, picked up the phone, and pressed answer, "Chuxia." His voice was deep yet filled with tenderness. But due to several hours spent looking at documents, Shi Che’s voice was tinged with a hint of tiredness.

There was a pause in Miss Chuxia’s voice before she spoke, "Che, are you still busy?"

On the other end of the phone, Miss Chuxia’s soft voice came through. The weariness in Shi Che’s brows seemed to vanish a bit. His lips curved lightly, his voice gentle yet subdued, "Yes, there’s still a huge pile of documents."

"Ah? Then, are you still coming back for dinner?"

Shi Che remembered he had said he would have dinner with Miss Chuxia that night, but he had a video conference later and guessed he wouldn’t make it home. His brow furrowed with frustration, but he was also helpless, "I don’t know how late I’ll be tonight. Chuxia, don’t wait up for me, just go ahead and eat."

Miss Chuxia had been eagerly waiting to have dinner with Shi Che, and it turned out he didn’t know when he would be able to come back tonight. She felt a tightness in her chest but also knew that if it were not for her, Shi Che wouldn’t have postponed so much work.

"So you’re not going to eat at all?"

"I’ll have Xiao Zhao order something."

Ordering food... Miss Chuxia looked at the table full of dishes she had made, her brows knitting slightly. She wanted to say something, but then a sudden idea flashed in her mind, and her eyes brightened ever so slightly. She dropped the topic, "Well, if that’s the case, then you focus on your work. I won’t disturb you anymore."
