"Pandora’s box was not something everyone had the courage to open a second time.

Shi Che took a deep breath, clutching the diary tightly in his hands. He then turned around, his footsteps feather-light as he stepped out of the bedroom and made his way to the study.

The night grew even quieter, and the sound of pages turning in the still study was unusually clear.

Shi Che didn’t look at any of the other diary entries; instead, he directly flipped to the latest page, which was the entry Chuxia had written that day. But as soon as he opened it, the first thing that caught his eye was a medical examination report.

His gaze hardened for a moment before he reached out, took the report, and spread it out in front of him. He skimmed through it rapidly until his dark eyes fixed on the final conclusion.

"Basically no longer possible to get pregnant," these eight words struck him like a sharp blade.

He had already guessed that Chuxia’s health might be compromised, but he had never imagined the reality to be this dire.

Chuxia actually might never be able to get pregnant again!

He finally understood why she looked so despondent when he fantasized about their children. At that moment, she must have felt utterly hopeless, all the while forcing a smile to cater to him.

Shi Che suddenly felt as if a giant fist had viciously punched his heart, a relentless pain spreading within, all of it pity for Ling Chuxia.

His girl, why was she so foolish? Why hadn’t she told him about this immediately, instead of silently bearing it all?

He remembered her pale face, and the unconscious tears in her sleep, and his heart clenched painfully.

His eyes, slightly stiff, fell on the diary. He began to read each word slowly.

Perhaps because of her mood, the words Ling Chuxia had written were not as delicate and beautiful as usual. They were a bit messy, the lines reeking of sadness, and mostly, they were filled with self-reproach.

Only the last sentence fully revealed her fear and terror.

She had written: I know I shouldn’t be so selfish, but I’m really afraid of losing Shi Che. Yet, he so hopes for children, and I... can no longer bear children for him, unable to fulfill his dream of having many, many children. Can I truly continue to be this selfish?

So afraid, yet still considering him!

As Shi Che read on, his eyes unconsciously grew warm. Ling Chuxia, how could you be so foolish, always so foolish from the past to the present?

He kept his gaze fixed on the diary for a long, long time, until his eyes felt stiff. Finally, he slowly closed his eyes, and when he opened them again, his dark pupils had regained their usual calm.

He placed the medical report back, closed the diary, and after a moment of silence, he picked up his phone and dialed a number.
