Contract Marriage: Let's Make It Real, Mrs. Sterling!
Chapter 72: I Was Wrong, Dad
CHAPTER 72: I WAS WRONG, DAD
Simon stood quietly at the door, not watching Martin Wright’s departing figure, but staring at his daughter who hadn’t been home in almost two years, his gaze stern.
Watching Martin Wright walk away and Mia Sutton not chasing after him, he felt relieved; thankfully, she still had her wits about her and hadn’t completely lost her mind!
His face cold, voice low and laced with anger: "Come here!"
Upon hearing this, Mia obediently walked over, surprised that she ran into her dad as soon as she got home. If it had been her mom, things would have been a lot easier.
The thought brought Martin Wright to mind, and she ground her sharp teeth together twice. If it wasn’t for that rascal, her dad wouldn’t have been at the door, definitely not!
Would she be facing such a mortifying moment completely unprepared? Absolutely not!
He never accomplishes anything, always messes things up; it infuriates her.
Mia, still carrying two bags, jogged over to Simon, obediently holding the bags, lifted her face, her eyes curved, and said with a bit of a playful tone, even with a hint of coquetry: "Dad..."
Simon was momentarily taken aback seeing her like that; Mia hadn’t talked to him so nicely in a long time.
However, his face remained cold, casting a glance at the things in her hands, he said coldly: "Things aren’t great outside? You still know to come back home!"
Without another word, Mia apologized. The old her, as if her brain was muddled, was all because of the inescapable force of the plot—don’t mention her dad, even she herself wanted to just grab a hammer and knock twice to see if something had seeped inside.
"I was wrong, Dad, I swear, I won’t do it ever again, really."
She was still holding things, trying to make a gesture to swear, making her look a bit ridiculous, adding humor with a touch of mischief.
Seeing her like that, Simon’s cold demeanor almost fell apart.
"Alright, enough chattering. You didn’t learn much outside, but your mouth sure got quicker."
"Go inside then."
"Okay, Dad." Mia lowered her head slightly, a faint smile formed on her lips as she felt relieved.
No matter what she had done, no matter how long she hadn’t seen them, even though she had gone through so many scenarios feeling like time had stretched so long, encountering them brought an overwhelming sense of warmth.
There was absolutely no sense of distance; all her worries dissipated.
Just as Mia was about to carry the things inside, a voice suddenly came from behind.
Mia’s expression stiffened immediately!
Simon’s expression also turned cold instantly.
Mia slowly turned her head to see Martin Wright standing not far away, his eyes fixed intently on her.
Mia: "..."
Martin Wright had already turned the corner but then remembered the things in his hand and came back, intending to leave them at the door.
Upon returning, he saw Mia standing at the door, shocked yet pleasantly surprised.
The wave of joy surging through him almost drowned him; at that moment, he realized he really did miss Mia.
"Mia, you’re back?"
"Mia, why didn’t you tell me you were coming back? I could have come and picked you up. What if there were paparazzi around when you’re coming back from the set?"
Mia stood behind Simon, revealing half her body and poking her head out, saying casually, "I’m coming home. What’s it got to do with you? Why should I tell you?"
Martin Wright wanted to step forward, but as he raised his eyes, he was stopped by Simon’s cold gaze. He paused, then slowly stopped, even retreating a bit.
