Contract Marriage: Let's Make It Real, Mrs. Sterling!
Chapter 90: Teacher Xi at the Set
CHAPTER 90: TEACHER XI AT THE SET
On the film set, it was very hot, surrounded by machines and people coming and going, very noisy, and the stagehands were still setting up props.
Under a big tree, there was a rocking chair, unassuming, just a very ordinary one. A man in a military uniform from the Republican era was sitting there, his long legs casually crossed.
He had a script on his lap, but unlike usual, he wasn’t looking at the script. Instead, he was looking at the phone in his hand, occasionally letting out a slow smile.
This surprised a nearby staff member — such a rare sight! Mr. Sterling actually wasn’t looking at his script for once but at his phone.
And he even smiled from time to time, more like he’d seen a ghost.
Some people were curious and quietly moved closer, wanting to know what Jensen Sterling was looking at. Just as they approached from behind, the man lifted his eyes and looked over.
Seeing him look over, the person greeted him as usual: "Mr. Sterling, what’s got you so happy today?"
This person was the female lead of the crew. Although she was the female lead, there were actually no romantic scenes with Jensen Sterling.
After all, it was a film about the warlords of the Republic of China with very few love scenes, focusing more on war.
This was also typically Jensen Sterling’s principle when choosing scripts. Everyone knew that if Jensen Sterling took a role, it either had dismally few love scenes or, if there were any, they were cut down to almost none.
Just because he wasn’t good at them, every time he acted in them, he always felt something was missing, that the feeling was off.
At first, he’d try to adapt, but later he just gave up, mellowing out love scenes, avoiding intense emotional outbursts.
This actress was also a first-line artist, having acted in many dramas. The reason she took this female lead role, which had even fewer scenes than the second male lead, was because Jensen Sterling was the star.
The name Jensen Sterling in itself had alluring power.
She had collaborated with Jensen Sterling before, but back then she wasn’t the female lead, just a supporting actress. On set, he was always gentle and gentlemanly.
Even if there were issues with the person acting opposite him, he wouldn’t lose his temper. She had only heard from people in the industry of Jensen Sterling’s gentle and refined demeanor, but seeing it in person, she was still taken aback.
But back then she was just a supporting character, hardly had a chance to speak with Jensen Sterling. So, when she found out he was the male lead in this film, ignoring her agent’s opposition, she auditioned and successfully joined the crew.
For a long time, she got along well with everyone in the crew, occasionally asking Jensen Sterling about script issues, and he always patiently answered her.
This made her feel Jensen Sterling was genuinely approachable, which is why she thought of sneaking a look at his phone to see what he was up to.
So when the man lifted his eyes and looked over coldly, with eyes devoid of any emotion, so dark they were intimidating.
The screen of his phone had been turned face down, and he coolly asked, "Is there something you need?"
The actress stood there stunned for a moment, then shook her head: "No, nothing."
After saying that, she dared not approach again; his eyes were too cold, completely devoid of emotion, a stark contrast to his usually warm and gentle demeanor like a spring breeze.
Jensen Sterling had a Bluetooth earpiece in one ear, and a girl’s light laughter came through it, warming up his previously cold demeanor quite a bit.
His tone also softened slightly, though still firm, as he tilted his chin slightly to one side, "It’s your scene now."
The actress quickly came to her senses, saying promptly, "Sorry to disturb you, Mr. Sterling." Then she turned and left.
