Cooking System: Street Food Rules
Chapter 37: Do you recognize that food truck?
CHAPTER 37: CHAPTER 37: DO YOU RECOGNIZE THAT FOOD TRUCK?
Liu Lu and his family of three descended from Fengqi Mountain.
The whole family was dressed in hiking gear. Liu Lu carried a backpack and held a walking stick, looking quite professional.
"This city is quite fun, and the sunrise on the mountain is also quite spectacular."
"I was checking the travel guide a few days ago. There’s a tourist resort here, and a food stall on its snack street is particularly popular. Lots of people line up there early in the morning."
"Everyone queues up for the braised meat, and it’s so popular that it’s hard to get."
"I’ve heard the braised meat tastes especially good."
"Tomorrow morning, let’s go to that snack street, line up, and try some for ourselves," Liu Lu said to his wife and daughter.
Hearing Liu Lu’s words, his daughter Liu Chenxi immediately said, "Dad, you’re behind on the news. I’ve been watching local videos, and that braised meat stall isn’t there anymore."
"Lots of people have posted videos looking for it!"
"Even if you want to try it, there’s no way!"
"Ah? It’s gone?" Liu Lu was somewhat surprised.
"I’ve read such good reviews online that I wanted to try that braised meat."
"That’s a shame."
Liu Chenxi nodded. "Yes, you have to check the date on those online videos; some are several days old!"
"It’s unclear where that stall is now, so we probably won’t get to try it."
"Actually, when I saw that video, I really wanted to go and eat there too."
As the two of them chatted, Liu Lu’s wife said breathlessly, "There’s a square over there; let’s rest for a bit."
"I can’t believe you two! There’s a cable car, and you insist on walking down."
"Next time you two go on these outings, leave me out of it. I’ll wait for you at the hotel!"
The father and daughter had good Staminia and both enjoyed adventures, but Liu Lu’s wife did not have the Staminia for it and suffered a great deal following them.
"Alright!"
The three of them headed towards the small square.
As they approached, they saw a food truck parked not far away, with a few customers already eating at small tables.
"There’s a stall over there; looks like it’s selling breakfast!" Liu Lu pointed ahead and said.
"Hurry and buy something, I’m starving! I need something warm!" Liu Lu’s wife exclaimed, as if she had seen a savior, and immediately walked forward.
At that moment, Liu Chenxi looked at the distant food truck and felt it seemed familiar.
Why does that food truck look so familiar?
Do all the mobile food trucks in this city have a standard look?
Liu Lu strode briskly up to Jiang Feng’s food truck.
Currently, almost all customers were buying buns and corn pumpkin porridge, as they were convenient to eat.
No one had ordered the egg fried rice yet.
"Boss, give me six buns," Liu Lu glanced at the menu and said directly.
"Alright."
Jiang Feng took a large paper bag, opened the steamer, quickly grabbed six large meat buns with tongs, placed them in the paper bag, and handed it to Liu Lu.
Liu Lu paid by scanning a code, took the buns, and walked away without taking a closer look at the food truck.
His wife and daughter rested on a bench. Liu Lu came over and casually mentioned, "They sell buns, porridge, and egg fried rice."
He described it very simply.
Actually, the buns were thin-skinned with a large, soy-sauce meat filling. The porridge was a carefully concocted sweet corn pumpkin porridge, and the egg fried rice was freshly made, golden, and fragrant.
But it was just a small stall, after all. Who would have thought it would have such high standards?
"Dad, do you recognize that food truck?" Liu Chenxi pointed at the food truck and said.
"Recognize it?"
Liu Lu turned to look at the food truck.
It was a cartoonish minibus, resembling a scaled-down public bus. A sign stood in front, and a handsome young man in chef’s attire was inside.
"It does seem a bit familiar," Liu Lu nodded, indeed feeling a sense of familiarity.
"I thought about it for a long time and finally realized—isn’t that the same food truck that sold braised meat on the snack street?"
Liu Chenxi took a bun from the paper bag.
The freshly removed bun was still a bit hot, so Liu Chenxi held it and blew on it several times.
Liu Lu looked towards the food truck, suddenly enlightened. "It really is. Maybe this type of food truck is popular around here since it can also be driven as an electric vehicle and comes with a built-in gas stove. That’s probably why all the small stalls buy this model."
They didn’t give it much more thought.
Liu Chenxi felt the bun had cooled down enough and took a bite.
Instantly, the unique aroma of the soy-sauce meat filling’s juices spread through her mouth. The meat was still a little hot, causing Liu Chenxi to hold the bun in her mouth and exhale sharply twice.
She chewed gently a couple of times.
The bun itself carried the natural fragrance of flour, with even a hint of wheat aroma.
The perfectly fermented dough, after repeated kneading, became resilient, soft, and springy.
Once steamed, it was full of an irresistible aroma.
Hmm?
Liu Chenxi’s eyes widened slightly, a look of amazement dawning in them.
"This is really tasty!" she exclaimed in amazement.
The meat filling in the soy-sauce pork bun was rich in flavor, without the slightest greasiness—only the pure fragrance of meat.
The meat filling clung tightly to the bun’s skin. Looking at the opening where she had bitten, one could see the evenly colored, soy-sauce-infused meat, glistening with juices.
Scattered green onions dotted the meat filling, adding a nice touch.
It looked appealing too.
Liu Chenxi grasped the bun and began to devour it.
Liu Lu, standing beside her, was also amazed by the bun’s flavor.
"So fragrant!"
"Is this place a hidden culinary gem? Why has no one ever mentioned it before!"
All three found the buns delicious. Being hungry, they didn’t bother talking and immediately started gobbling them up.
Soon, all six buns were devoured.
Liu Lu’s wife usually had a small appetite, but this time she finished her share swiftly, without pausing.
Liu Lu took mineral water from his bag, and the three of them had a drink.
"This tastes way too good! Let’s go buy some more!" Liu Lu declared, still wanting more.
"Don’t they also sell porridge? Let’s get a bowl; it’s warm too!" Liu Lu’s wife suggested.
"Good idea."
The trio stood up and walked towards Jiang Feng’s food truck.
At that moment, several patrons were sitting at a small nearby table, heaping praise on the food Jiang Feng had made.
"Boss, your cooking skills are impressive!" someone shouted to Jiang Feng.
Jiang Feng responded with a smile.
The three approached the stall. Liu Lu looked at the counter and said to Jiang Feng, "Boss, can I have three bowls of corn and pumpkin porridge, three meat buns, and three tea eggs?"
Liu Chenxi, meanwhile, tilted her head up, her gaze fixed intently on Jiang Feng’s face.
At first glance, the guy running the stall is rather handsome.
At second glance, he seems somewhat familiar.
At third glance... holy cow! Isn’t that the same guy who sold braised meat?
A look of shock flashed in Liu Chenxi’s eyes as she exclaimed, "Oh my god, it’s you!"
"It really is you!"
Hearing her, her parents both looked at her.
"You know him?"
Liu Chenxi, slightly excited, said, "He’s the braised meat vendor from the snack street at the resort—the one that went viral online a few days ago! We saw him when we were looking for local food!"
Upon hearing this, Liu Lu was also surprised.
When he watched the videos online, he’d only seen the long queues and the stall’s sign, never paying attention to the vendor.
Everyone focuses on different things.
Liu Lu was more concerned about the food and the event, while Liu Chenxi was more interested in what the stall owner looked like, especially since people said he was handsome.
"Is it really him?"
"Isn’t this a breakfast stall selling buns?" Liu Lu asked curiously.
Their conversation was overheard by nearby customers, who turned their heads and craned their necks to get a good look at Jiang Feng.
Jiang Feng hadn’t expected to be recognized by out-of-town tourists.
This is a bit much. No, actually, it’s quite unbelievable.
"Boss, were you the one selling braised meat at the resort a few days ago?" Liu Lu immediately inquired.
Hearing the question, Jiang Feng nodded. "Yes, last week I was selling braised meat."
"Why are you selling buns now?" Liu Lu asked, his curiosity piqued.
"I like the mountains; I came to enjoy the scenery."
Liu Lu was speechless.
