CHAPTER 547: VOLUME 6 CHAPTER 33 GOING HOME
Fatty walked out of Boswell’s private research lab.
As soon as he emerged, the young researchers in the hall all paused their work and looked at him with eyes full of fervent admiration and respect.
Fatty hurriedly crossed the lab hall and stood in the identity verification zone at the entrance.
A blue beam of light scanned him from top to bottom from the curved projection at the top of the door. After automatic identification, the two silver metal doors silently slid open.
Upon stepping outside, Fatty immediately saw a graceful and slim silhouette standing quietly at the other end of the long corridor filled with guards.
The white checkered dress hugged her curvaceous body, and beneath the hem, a pair of straight, slender legs were captivating. Light pink high-heeled sandals revealed her perfectly fair, delicate feet.
Ann Lei was still the same Ann Lei. The Ann Lei who was like a delicate deer. She seemed never to change. No matter when you saw her, she always gave off an impression of gentle tranquility and refreshing charm.
Since they fled from Gazalin and Jiasier forcibly took Ann Lei away, more than a year had passed.
Recalling the birth and death in Gazalin now felt like a dream. The intense war flames and smoke had finally receded.
Looking at the quietly standing Ann Lei, Fatty finally realized that he was home.
He walked quickly towards Ann Lei. As his vision became clearer, he saw the flicker of tears in Ann Lei’s eyes, which held a trace of reproach and a hint of grievance.
When a soft body threw itself into Fatty’s arms, the warriors responsible for vigilance silently dispersed. They extended the security perimeter farther away from the corridor. The whole process was smooth like flowing water; no one spoke, and no sound was made.
From the moment they first saw the girl who seemed untouched by the mundane world, they had taken a liking to her.
Everyone appreciates beauty. A woman’s beauty can be enchanting in many ways.
There’s the graceful figure of a girl with golden straight hair standing on the platform holding a book amidst the falling snow. There’s the radiant smile exchanged between a beautiful matron and her companion on the sidewalk. There’s also the fleeting glimpse of a dream girl’s skirt flying in the crowd.
People are often struck by sudden glimpses of beauty in a fleeting moment.
Only upon seeing this girl did the warriors realize that a woman truly could be described with water. In this girl, there was no trace of vulgarity, vanity, arrogance, or pretense. She was like a clear spring, simple and clean.
They were very curious about the relationship between the Federation Hero and this girl.
They must be lovers, right? How could they not be lovers?
Fatty was also a soldier, one of them. In their hearts, a girl like this was meant to marry a soldier like Fatty. And such a girl deserved protection. This damn war must not be allowed to harm even a hair on her head.
A young warrior sneaked a glance back. He was gratified to see the scene of embrace he had envisioned, which made his eyes redden.
The sight before him made him involuntarily recall the girl he had sworn to protect, the one who blushed, quickly kissed him in the small grove, and then ran away.
The young warrior stood straight back at his post, hands tightly gripping his gun. He felt a profound pride in being a Leray soldier.
In the quiet corridor, the two people held each other tightly.
As soon as Ann Lei leapt into Tian Xingjian’s arms, she didn’t want to get up. His chest was so broad, and the heartbeat within it so strong. Thinking of this man risking his life for her in Gazalin for over a year, Ann Lei felt her nose sting.
"Mom misses you, she told me to call you back." Ann Lei buried her head in Fatty’s chest and sniffled.
"Mom?" Fatty’s response seemed either dull or sharp, or maybe just cheeky.
"My mom!" Ann Lei bit her lip and smacked Fatty’s chest hard.
"Let’s go." Upon hearing Mother Ann’s call, Fatty’s mind discarded the last thought about Mecha modification. He realized it had been a long time since he had tasted Mother Ann’s six-flavor fish. It had also been long since he knew what home felt like.
"Aren’t you going to pack up a bit?" With her face flushed, Ann Lei looked up from Fatty’s chest, obediently letting him hold her hand.
"There’s nothing much to pack." Fatty said. In this world, the house next to Gallipalan College was his home. For someone who had lost his parents at a young age, nothing was more important than going home.
As soon as Fatty finished speaking, a voice came from behind him.
"Daddy, who is this big sister?"
Ann Lei looked down in surprise.
A chubby little boy had somehow run over, tugging at Fatty’s coat hem timidly, hiding his big head behind Fatty, and peeking at her with large, blinking eyes.
Tricked by this little kid, Fatty was so confused. He couldn’t believe that Pipi, the little rascal, dared to tease him. Surely, Pipi thought that Fatty wouldn’t dare do anything to him in front of Ann Lei.
Fatty was about to explain to Ann Lei when the little kid darted out from behind, opened his small arms, and stumbled towards Ann Lei.
