Craved by the Wrong Volkov
Chapter 106: Pursuit
CHAPTER 106: PURSUIT
Lucien’s POV
It took a moment to get my thoughts together. Everything was just spiralling all at once and I could not let her see me at this wreck
She already knows the spoilt brat, the psycho and the menace, she didn’t need to see the complete wreck of a man I was. I brushed my fingers through my hair, the dark chocolate locks were all over the place.
"Get yourself together," I muttered before releasing a laugh. When was the last time I got my shit together?
Amber should not have said that crap to me. It reminded me of her once again, and I was finally forgetting her laugh echoing in my head. Her touch was finally fading away and she just had to mention her again.
She was my dark shadow, and Braelyn was the light that wanted to consume and burn me. The very light I wanted to taint until it was dark because I couldn’t coexist with light
And Amber just had to open her fucking mouth. The shadow and light couldn’t coexist at once. I rolled my jaw, "I am sorry for daring to think about another woman when you should be the only one plaguing my mind. Only you have the right, Lynn, my poisonous Viper." I laughed at the insanity I just spoke off
The same person who was my nephew’s wife. Now I regret not being at Raphael’s wedding 4 years ago. If I weren’t shallow in grief, I would have been able to steal his bride because I was certain she would have still pulled me at first sight.
I had an important incoming call I had to answer afterwards. I turned around and then started to head back to the auction hall while trying to push everything aside. Even in his grave, my old man was still ruling my life with his ridiculous death wish.
I wanted to text Braelyn, but I remembered she wasn’t with her phone. She didn’t feel like holding a purse during the entire event.
I continued down the hallway, there were only a few around this side of the building. Not even Joey or Amber was close by.
My feet suddenly stopped with a chill going down my spine. It was a feeling of foreboding I couldn’t ignore. I remembered this feeling, the gripping feeling of fear that was tugging at my heart
I remembered the last time I had this premonition and it didn’t end well. I should have stopped her then but I didn’t understand the fear
Currently, there were only a few things that made me scared, the type of fear that crawled up my skin.
Like hell there was only one thing that could get me shaken like this.
The realization hit me, and I started to run, hoping my gut feeling was wrong. Nothing could happen...
I held my breath; only one person could have shaken me like this. It was her, those green eyes which always haunted me.
Brealyn....just thinking of her name at this moment scared the shit out of me. From ahead I saw another figure running towards me, his similar hazel eyes carried the same look of fear as mine. He could not even pretend or put on that mask of his now.
Something really happened to her. But she was perfectly fine. Could he be any more incompetent?
We jogged towards each other and both spoke at the same time
"Lucien, where is Braelyn?" he said in a heartbeat, at the same time I said. "Raph, where is she?" My heart beat dropped to my stomach with the air pressure rising to an all-time high as the hallway felt too small.
As soon as we asked the question, we both froze, and a dreadful realization hit.
"She isn’t with you..." He hissed as my fist clenched. The look of fear and resentment mixed in his gaze.
This jerk.
"You were the one who took her away, away genius.." I snorted, ticked off by the nerves he had to talk to me that way when he was the one who took her away.
I did not have the luxury of time to spend on him.. one thing was certain now.
My guts were freaking right again, and the realisation terrified me. The club incident crept into my mind again. Nothing could happen to her. If her life was in danger... no, I shook my head I couldn’t think about that scenario
My line of thought was interrupted by a sharp alarm sound ringing from my phone. My expression instantly changed, darkening knowing what the sound meant
I had made Braelyn wear a bracelet despite knowing it would be crossing her boundaries. I didn’t fucking care. It was fine as long as she didn’t care and she was safe
The bracelet had a built-in mechanism that constantly monitored her body and would send an alarm once something out of the normal happened, like her being terrified, gravely injured or unconscious.
Something had happened to her. My grip tightened around the phone, and I could not help but curse out. "Fuck it..." I stared, eyes dead on my blinking screen
Nothing matters anymore, everything turned into a blur, but the fact that she was in serious danger. I didn’t bother sparing words for Raphael and bolted off staring at the red dot on my screen as I rang for the elevator
The door closed and I immediately chose the last floor. She was leaving the building, that’s what the tracker said... someone had abducted her and she was either terrified or worse unconscious
It was the longest elevator ride ever by the time I got to the car pack she was already leaving at a fast pace. They were driving frantically away.
The elevator slid open, and I ran out, gripping my phone. I cursed at the fact my car wasn’t suitable for a hot pursuit but I will make do with what I can...
Time wasn’t on my side. I rushed towards my ride, and the driver was waiting inside. The moment he spotted me from afar he stepped out to pull the door open.
"Are we leaving already, sir?" He asked standing at the open back door, his eyes darted around as if finding Braelyn. My eyes twitched. He was here and didn’t notice anything suspicious.
"Keys..." I demanded to walk towards the driver’s seat. He understood the situation and immediately tossed the keys.
"I will get back up on your tail." He said before I slammed the door and drove off from the car park. My phone was connected to my car screen so I could see the red dot which was still moving....
They had gained a considerable distance, but I didn’t spend my years at racing tracks for nothing.
I stepped on the accelerator and followed in pursuit. Driving as fast as I can ignoring the fucking speeding limit, or traffic lights and bypassing every vehicle I could
Everything blurred before my eyes, and all that was in my mind was getting to her. After what felt like an eternity I was finally on their tail. It was a desolate road away from the bustling side of the city.
They were probably heading to some secret base but this was perfect. There were very few eyes here
It was either that they didn’t see me coming or couldn’t handler because I easily caught up to them. The car wasn’t a racing car, it was a sleek BMW that blended among the luxury cars that filled the event
They spotted me and tried bloody hard to avoid me but they bloody kidnapped the wrong person
All I could see at the moment was red, so when I stepped on the accelerator to run into the car, I put everything into it.
The window was tinted, but I could bet my life on the fact that Braelyn was in the trunk. Tires screeched, bullets fired, it was complete chaos and a fight of push and avoid.
My heart was racing, my blood pumping due to excitement, anger, rage and fear. But my eyes were clear in the night
After the long battle, one car was lost, and it wasn’t mine. I slammed into their back, they released a bullet but because their car had lost control the bullet hit their tyre instead and the car lost control spiralling until it struck a light pole
The pole broke, following a line of destruction. Other electric poles fell along with solar street lights, and the road plunged into complete darkness, which once again was perfect.
The car door was pushed open and two figures stumbled out, a lady and a man.
I smirked at them. The man fired, but the car was bulletproof; nothing got through it.
I smiled, they were just 2. This was going to be easy. I pulled open the car compartment and picked up the gun after checking the bullets.
One of my hands held the steering wheel, the other the car, and I drove straight at them.
They were disorganised by my sudden moves and knew I had every intent to run into them
Which I didn’t. The lady was hit by my car and before the man could react a bullet slipped through the small opening of the car hitting his hand and his gun fell from his grip
Their agonising cries faded in my ears. I stepped out of the car, without blinking or thinking twice I ended their grieving and cried with just two bullets to the head
My eyes still remained calm, I approached the trunk then fired a bullet at the lock which immediately swung open and there she was asleep like an angel having no idea of the devil who wasn’t going to let go of her
