Lucien stepped out of the car stalking towards the damage he had caused. The street was dark, and the only light that shone was from his headlight

Their groans continued. He didn’t spare them much of a glance when he pulled the trigger like he had done this a million times. The last look of horror on their face as they faced death meant nothing to him. They should have thought about the consequences when they considered acting against him

His grip tightened on his gun, and he raised his hand and fired at the boot lock. The boot opened immediately. He walked towards the boot, and his fingers grazed her cheeks

Braelyn was perfectly asleep like the angel she was in his eyes. Her eyes fluttered periodically body was curled up together, she was oblivious to what she might have cursed.

He laughed at himself and his thoughts. She made this difficult for him. She made him seem like the worst sinner...she was an Oblivious saint pulled into a game for sinners. Braelyn had no idea at all

Elsewhere, in the chaos and madness, the moment the electric poles were damaged, half of the city was plunged into darkness, a time that terrified them, as it was rare and almost unheard of.

Raphael was in the security room trying to pull in calls. The CCTV camera didn’t do much help, for over an hour the cameras started to misbehave

The security had kept it a secret to reduce panic but he understood this was a planned kidnapping attempt. They didn’t want to leave any trail

"What do you mean by a malfunction?" Raphael had hissed before the head of the security could answer there was a power shortage although it was for a brief moment as the backup generation which was rarely used kicked in immediately

This had still startled the security team, the entire incident was bizarre. They understood the vice chairman’s wife’s disappearance was going to cost them, but they were unprepared for the attack.

What had truly happened was that, everywhere Braelyn had been after stepping out of the auction room, there had been a cyber malfunction.

The kidnappers had been watching her all along. Raphael’s fist clenched and an ominous feeling crawled up his throat. He remembered the last warning

A blood debt must be repaid in blood. The debt collectors were back, but why did it have to be her?

At another part of the same venue, Joey was trying to get Amber out of the vicinity when the lights went off. Even if she didn’t love him, he wasn’t going to let her walk into her death

He recognised the look in Lucien’s eyes...he could have killed Amber, but he didn’t out of consideration for him.

"Let go of me Joey. Doing this won’t make me love you." She said as the elevator had just opened, and the lights flashed for a moment. Joey was confused by that short moment and it gave Amber the chance to yank her hand away

She ran away from the elevator, which was stuck during the blackout, before the lights immediately came back on. "Do you think I don’t know?" Joey mentioned from behind her as he followed behind. His blue eyes were calm like he was struggling to bottle everything up.

His eyes searched around the car park and confirmed Lucien’s car wasn’t there.

Amber spun around, her eyes carried a wary, confused look. "What do you mean?" She asked him with dead eyes. Her hand was clutching her dress skirt. The soft glint she had in her eyes earlier for Lucien was gone

Even if Joey knew she would never have the same look in her eyes for him, it still hurts every time to see her eyes fade. "I always suspected you loved him, and even crazier, I know the reason you came with me today was to speak with Lucien...."

Her eyes went wide, and Amber was taken unaware. Although she had been caught admitting to using him, she never knew he was aware all along that he was being used

Lucien hasn’t been answering Amber’s call. He was a busy man without a doubt and normally Amber wasn’t worried about it but that was until she saw Braelyn

Braelyn was different from his other flings and she genuinely panicked. She was scared she would never get the chance...

"Then why..." Her sentence was cut off by Joey. His jaw clenched as he said. "Because I was a helpless fool. I thought maybe if you truly saw Lucien, you would finally realise my efforts...." He laughed at her spoke

"That was a wishful thought, wasn’t it, Amber. Tonight made me realise no matter how many times he said no or pushed you away, you would never get over your obsession, and I would always be a tool barely worth a second glance..." Amber’s eyes trailed away. She could not meet his

That little action alone sent daggers into his heart. "I’m..." She whispered

"You are not Sorry, Amber, not before or now," he snapped, and she flinched, startled by his tone. Her eyes remained wild. It was the first time Joey had ever raised his voice at her.

He didn’t walk in her direction, they just stared at each other. "It is fine amber. It is about time I stop torturing myself watching the girl I secretly love look at my best friend with hopeful eyes." She still couldn’t look at him.

"Good luck getting him to love you but I am done with this. You aren’t the only one who needs to wake up but also me." He said on a final note before walking away. Amber just stood there watching as he got into his car and drove off

The bitter truth was that she never regretted it.

Joey’s grip tightened on the steering wheel as his car drove through the night. His heart felt heavy, his eyes were blurry, but he continued driving anyway.

He knew this day was eventually going to come. The entire situation was messed up and it was his fault for falling in love but the heart can be so foolish at times

Amber had loved Lucien long before his heart started to skip for her but he still went ahead and foolishly fell for her. The cloud rumbled and it unceremoniously started to rain

It has been raining a lot recently...the blurry road and wet weather only made this more unbearable

After driving around for what felt like forever. He stopped in front of a building. He didn’t understand why he came here but he just found himself here

Joey stepped out of the car, letting the rain drench him immediately. He stood leaning against the car staring at a particular floor dazed and confused why he was staring there like his anchor was there

Something that would hold him from spiralling.

A beam of bright light flashed in him, drawing him from his daze. He glanced at the car and watched a slender figure step out

The bright light made it hard to see her face clearly but he knew who it was

"What the hell are you doing standing here? Do you want to die in the rain?" She snapped at him.

Joey smiled, it was the first time he smiled at her. "Because I know only you will tell me how foolish I am." His words left her dumbfounded
