CHAPTER 776: CHAPTER 769: JOIN FORCES?
Before, simply by touching her full head of white hair, those tentacles had already caused her essence to continuously drain away.
At this moment, faced with the incoming Devouring Touch, Chi Lian dared not let it make real contact!
The scarlet mist drifting from all directions, after this brief delay, had completely enveloped the entire backyard.
Being within her own domain, to say Chi Lian was undying would certainly be an exaggeration, but with just a thought, she could appear anywhere within the shroud of scarlet mist.
Holding such a home-field advantage, before Chen Hai’s Devouring Touch could truly land on her, Chi Lian’s figure had already vanished in an instant, reappearing outside the attack range of the Devouring Touch.
"How dare you harbor the intent to kill me; who exactly are you?"
"Do you have any idea what place Mang Mountain City is?"
"Daring to strike at one of us from Nether Land within our own sphere of influence, no matter who you are, you are definitely doomed!"
Her figure flashed like lightning, Chi Lian zipping around.
Although she had the immense advantage of the Scarlet Domain, allowing her to instantly switch locations and appear anywhere within the domain,
wherever she ran, those tentacles pursued and killed!
The entire backyard was only so big; the length of the Devouring Touch kept extending, and even if Chen Hai didn’t move, those rapidly growing tentacles were enough to strike any location in the backyard.
Faced with the relentless assault of the Devouring Touch, Chi Lian was already exhausted from running; no matter where she fled, she barely had time to catch her breath before at least a dozen Devouring Touches would follow, relentlessly pursuing her.
Dodging between numerous tentacles, all she could do was reveal her identity, threatening Chen Hai in an attempt to make him have some reservations about her.
"So this is Nether Land’s territory? You are one of the Nether Land’s people?"
"I’ve always heard that nearly half of the demons and ghosts from Primordial Land gather in Nether Land. Seeing you, I can finally confirm that outsiders haven’t described you incorrectly at all."
"Like all of you, who are bereft of any conscience, you all deserve to die!"
Chi Lian’s words caused Chen Hai to be momentarily taken aback.
As a person, he usually secluded himself for cultivation, rarely paying attention to other matters, but he had of course heard of Nether Land, a power on par with Heavenly Mansion and Demon Palace as the most top-tier forces in Primordial Land.
Any human would be unable to have the slightest bit of goodwill toward an evil force like Nether Land, which was purely made up of alien kinds and treated the human race as cultivation fodder.
Even at the mines, where there were constant conflicts between the Heavenly Mansion and the Demon Palace, if Nether Land tried to intervene, the two forces with a deep-seated enmity might even set aside their grudges temporarily and join hands to drive Nether Land out first.
Knowing that the person in front of him was from Nether Land, Chen Hai, who already harbored killing intent, was now boiling with murderous rage, his attacks becoming much sharper than before.
"White Bone, if you don’t take action now, then when will you?"
"Do you want to wait until I’m dead before you come to collect my corpse?"
The tentacles, dense and unending, crisscrossed through the void.
Because of her concerns, Chi Lian did not dare to make real contact with these tentacles; even within the Scarlet Domain, where she could move freely, she was still forced into a corner, her range of movement continuously shrinking, looking as if she were on the brink of peril.
Faced with this situation, she noticeably panicked, shouting angrily towards the direction of the backyard entrance.
"Chi Lian, we had an agreement between us long ago, didn’t we? There’s an order to everything, isn’t there?"
"This human Heavenly Immortal, since he’s your target, and you had already engaged him when I arrived, how can I just barge in? What does that make me?"
"Anyone who knows me is aware that I, White Bone, value loyalty the most. If I intervened now, in the eyes of others, it would be tantamount to taking advantage of someone’s misfortune. How would others view me?"
Amid the eerie laughter, a voice rough as a broken gong resounded from outside, entering the ears of Chen Hai and Chi Lian.
Following that, a figure resembling a feeble scholar, though with a skull for a head, appeared at the entrance of the backyard.
However, he did not strike immediately but stood with his hands behind his back, quietly at the garden entrance.
This guy didn’t seem to want to kick someone while they were down, but his actions and behavior clearly indicated he was waiting to play the fisherman, hoping to see Chi Lian and Chen Hai fight to mutual destruction.
"White Bone, do you really think I don’t know what kind of person you are? Who are you trying to fool in front of me?"
"As long as you’re willing to make a move and deal with this kid afterwards, we’ll split the gains evenly—add two into five, half for each of us!"
Distracted for a moment, Chi Lian failed to dodge in time and was pierced in her left arm by a tendril.
Though she was a ghost and not made of flesh and blood, the Devouring Touch that penetrated her arm caused it to become more ethereal at a visibly rapid pace.
With a muffled grunt, Chi Lian willingly let that arm burst apart, dissipating into rolling red mist on all sides.
The next moment, she condensed a new arm where the old one had been destroyed.
However, the new arm appeared more spectral than her original one.
Seriously harmed at her core, the evidently injured Chi Lian let out an angry shout in the direction of White Bone.
"My White Bone is known far and wide for my benevolence and righteousness; I won’t tarnish my reputation and intervene for just half of the spoils..."
He only got halfway through his sentence before White Bone stopped, shook his head, and chuckled with a hee-hee.
A folding fan, of which the presence had gone unnoticed, now appeared in his hand, the surface flapped open, and he gently waved the fan in his hand.
Emblazoned on the pristine fan were two big characters—"More Money."
The ghastly green glow of these characters flickered, standing out so starkly against the deep night that it was impossible to ignore them.
"Is even half not enough for you? White Bone, what exactly do you want?" Chi Lian, feeling she was nearing her limit, angrily questioned White Bone.
"I want it all, whatever the loot may be."
"Additionally, I want you—not forever and always, just a few days of frolic is all I ask for."
"My White Bone’s righteousness and integrity are inherited; I never force anyone. If you think my conditions are too much, I’ll leave without another word!"
Waving the folding fan in his hand, the White Bone’s skeleton head, devoid of any flesh, seemed almost unable to close its gaping maw.
Perhaps to show his sincerity, White Bone muttered a few incantations under his breath and pointed towards where Chi Lian stood.
"Crack... crack..." Several crisp sounds followed.
The ground cracked open, and four or five pale skeletons emerged, wobbling as they drilled out.
These seemingly frail skeletons positioned themselves in front of Chi Lian.
About a dozen tendrils landed on these skeletons.
One thing outmatched another; perhaps because these skeletons were already withered bones with no intrinsic value to devour, Chi Lian’s feared Devouring Touch seemed unable to inflict much damage on them.
"I’ll just consider myself pinned down by a dog, White Bone, make your move already, I agree to your terms!" Chi Lian, having caught her breath, was clearly delighted at this turn of events.
She nodded at White Bone who wasn’t far away, uttered a soft cry, and made her promise.
