Cyberpunk: Ultimate Cyborg System
Chapter 412: Bingo.
CHAPTER 412: BINGO.
Just in case, Dante waited around the sixth underground floor for a couple more minutes, allowing Volcan to gather as much data on it. That allowed them to confirm what they already knew—the floor didn’t have anything of value.
Already pissed, Dante didn’t take well to the enemies that came out of the elevator soon after. He went back into the vault and picked one of the pistols stored inside. Loading some bullets, he then went around planting one or two in the heads of each idiot who thought it was a good idea to bother him when he was already annoyed as hell.
After that last wave, no one showed up for a while. With nothing left to do in the lower floors and with the clock ticking on his use of a Level 3 armor, Dante decided to head for the upper floors, having decided to leave from the front door to send a message.
’... Looks like they have prepared a welcome party for us...’
The 3D model showed a number of red dots gathered on the fifth basement floor, a short distance from the elevator floor. Zooming in on them showed people lined up like a firing squad, rifles already aimed.
’Don’t know what makes them think this will work...’
The thought brought with it another one, asking why they would think they would fail. From their perspective, they had him cornered. The elevator provided no place to hide, and the only way out was through them. All they had to do was rain fire the instant that door opened.
’Well, let them try.’
With a few mental commands, Dante prepared a portal in front of him and waited. The elevator reached its destination, sounding a bell just as the door was about to open. A couple of seconds later, gunfire roared.
The gangsters, all dressed in tactical gear, pulled the trigger without hesitation. They did not stop to check the interior of the elevator, and because of that, it took them a moment to catch the emergence of a dark curtain. They never got to wonder about it either as their focus was shattered from the pain piercing their backs.
Once the cries of pain replaced the gunfire, Dante dismissed the portal and walked into the corridor.
’Good thing they positioned themselves this close.’
Taking the storm of gunfire with their backs did quite a bit of damage, but only a few died instantly from it. Dante went about executing the survivors, one bullet at a time. He was about done with the last one when he caught sight of movement in the corner of his eye, causing his perception to accelerate to the max.
As the world around him came to a halt, Dante quickly docked, having realized that his enemy was moving at a speed that surpassed his enhanced perception. A violent gust of wind washed over his head, followed by a loud explosion.
Leaping back, Dante took in the appearance of the new challenger.
’Bingo.’
An imposing figure drew back the leg he had just launched in a kick. White alloy covered him from head to toe, segmented and divided by sharp black lines. The back of the leg had a booster of some kind spewing flames like a miniature rocket.
That one kick pierced the wall, sending a web of cracks spreading from the point of the impact. The wall collapsed right after, but the white power suit didn’t stop, coming after him right away.
Despite its bulk, the white power suit moved with incredible agility. Its wearer wasn’t playing around as well. He seemed well accustomed to its use, and as he continued to chain one attack after the other, Dante became convinced that his opponent underwent om king of martial arts training.
Soon, evading alone was no longer enough. Dante found himself forced to make use of his own martial skills, redirecting and parrying attacks. When it became clear that the clash wasn’t going anywhere, the white power suit retreated a few meters.
[Wow, that was insane.] Came a voice from beyond the overly designed helmet. [You really are good.]
The voice sounded male and a little aged, unlike the one he heard in the vault. Dant offered no comment, taking a fighting stance. He didn’t have to wait long before his resident AI spoke up.
[Threat valuation.] He said. [Level 2 Advanced Cyborg. That white power suit is enough to push him to Level 3.]
’Is that so...’
Level 3 wasn’t something to scoff about, but having faced much stronger opponents, Dante wasn’t impressed. He did like the design of the white power suit, though. Though it looked unlike anything Volcan had in his arsenal, it shared some of the design elements, making it appear like a marvel of technological engineering.
[Say, you’re the one who stole my cars earlier, right?] The white suit asked. [How did you do it?]
Dante didn’t answer, but he caught on to his identity. Kortic. One of the higher-ups at the Daggers, the treasurer managing the gang’s finances, investments and businesses.
[You scared me shitless, you know? Thirty cars disappeared into thin air. How the hell am I supposed to explain that to the insurance companies.]
’Alright, just charge at me.’ Dante thought to himself. ’I will take care of it myself.’
Dante was done with his preparation, so it wouldn’t be long before he achieved his goal. The white suit had yet to take out any weapons, and from the look of it, he seemed to plan on finishing things with his fist. That gave Dante an opening, and he planned on using it to the fullest.
[Not answering, huh? Well, I expected as much.] Lowering his posture, the man in white prepared to lunge again. [We can take out sweet time talking once we have you captured.]
Almost saying "Same", Dante caught a glimpse of what was to happen. He gave a few commands and set a portal entrance in front of him. If his opponent fell into this trap, the next time they would see each other would be on Hollow Street.
