Chapter 395 Preparation
CHAPTER 395: CHAPTER 395 PREPARATION
Yang Peimin went back to school for classes.
She, too, was now a sophomore.
The feeling that her coursework still lagged far behind everyone else’s persisted.
However, having more opportunities to use the laboratory sparked all of Minmin’s interests. Taking advantage of some time off, she made another trip back to the small town near the military base, sought out Granny Quan for another round of supplies, and even entrusted her to find some rare species.
Since the number of backlogged orders at the clothing factory had grown, her own income naturally increased as well. With this financial ease, she decided to prepare for another job and amped up her investment and research in skincare and cosmetics.
The school’s equipment also had its limitations and could only perform simple tasks, so she began her endeavor with Gao Lingfeng. She knew he was a brilliant student in this field and could describe his dedication to this research as obsession. He had also studied abroad and was familiar with some advanced equipment from overseas.
First, Gao Lingfeng sized her up and then asked, "So, how much money do you have on hand?"
Yang Peimin choked.
His directness made her feel suddenly short of breath.
Speaking of which, it wasn’t actually a lot – although she had now reached the status of a ten-thousand-yuan household, equipment was notoriously expensive, and this amount was far from sufficient.
"Why don’t you tell me the price? I can work a little harder towards that goal. Maybe I can afford it," she said.
"Pei Min, you are the boldest student I’ve ever seen."
"Hehe, that’s because a great teacher produces outstanding students," she quipped.
Gao Lingfeng rolled his eyes at her, "You’re really thick-skinned. Okay, how about this – my mom’s birthday is coming up, and since you can make skincare products, bring me a whole box of face creams. If she likes them, then maybe you have some talent, and I’ll inquire about the equipment for you."
"Mr. Gao, I knew it, you’re a responsible teacher," she said.
Gao Lingfeng glared, "When have I ever been irresponsible?"
Yang Peimin hurried to admit her mistake, "Yes, yes, you’re even more responsible now. I mean, you’ve been so kind to this clumsy disciple of yours. Mr. Gao, do you want some toner? It’s cucumber toner, really hydrating for the skin. I see you have oily skin, and based on that, it seems like dehydration..."
"Enough, you can go now, I have nothing for you here," he interrupted.
Yang Peimin left his office, unable to help but laugh. Despite his serious facade, he had been all ears when she talked about beauty knowledge.
Li Yue, that guy, only returned the day before classes started, busy "recovering from jet lag" and readjusting to the pace here.
It was only after a few days that he asked Yang Peimin, "Minmin, did you give birth?"
Yang Peimin rolled her eyes, her face full of reluctance to engage.
Li Yue’s gaze dropped to her belly before he finally realized, "Looks like you did give birth, sorry. I haven’t paid much attention to you these past few days and felt like you looked thinner, so you must have already delivered."
Yang Peimin huffed coldly.
Eagerly, Li Yue leaned in, "So, did you have a boy or a girl?"
Yang Peimin smacked him on the back of the head, "I don’t know yet."
Li Yue exclaimed in shock, "Minmin, your memory has declined so much after giving birth that you even forgot the gender of your own child. It seems the saying that pregnancy makes you stupid for three years is true!"
Yang Peimin nearly choked on her own saliva.
At the end of school, Li Yue followed me and said, "It’s time I came to see the baby you gave birth to, Minmin. Let me ride the bike; I’m stronger and can pedal faster. I’m afraid Yingzi hasn’t made my meal."
"Li Yue, are you coming to see the child or to freeload a meal?"
Li Yue laughed, "Of course I’m here to see the child, but since you’re so hospitable, might as well have a meal."
Yang PeiMin really didn’t know what to do with her.
As soon as school was out, the school gate became lively.
Since the country had implemented the reform and opening-up policy, some bold people had started to get active. Yang PeiMin could see people setting up snack stands at the entrance of her school, selling buns, steamed bread, fried spring rolls, and roasted gluten sticks – it was a thriving business.
Li Yue craned her neck to look, full of regret. "Before the vacation, there wasn’t any of this. I’m so stupid; these two days I’ve been squatting in the cafeteria and haven’t come out – I’ve wasted so much good food."
Yang PeiMin coolly said, "You talk as if it doesn’t cost money."
Li Yue then pulled her neck back and eyed the roasted gluten sticks, swallowing her saliva, "That’s true, let’s just go to your place then; your food is free."
Yang PeiMin: "..."
Li Yue rode the bike with Yang PeiMin sitting behind her, and they quickly arrived at home.
As soon as they entered the yard, Chen Guizhi came out of the house holding Lele, "Lele, look who’s back? Mommy is back!"
Then, seeing Li Yue walking in front, she expressed her surprise, "Minmin, is this your classmate?"
"Hello Auntie, I’m PeiMin’s classmate, Li Yue."
"Mother, she came to see Lele. Li Yue, this is my mother-in-law."
"Good, good, it’s so thoughtful of you. While you’re here, don’t be shy," Chen Guizhi said with a smile.
Li Yue leaned in closer to Lele, "PeiMin, is this your child?"
"If he’s not mine, could he possibly be from the neighbors’?" Yang PeiMin replied sarcastically. Had she not noticed how incredibly dumb Li Yue was before? Or was she just too kind-hearted in the past?
"He’s indeed adorable, too bad he doesn’t look like you," Li Yue remarked as she eyed Lele.
Chen Guizhi happily responded, "He looks like his dad."
Li Yue nodded, "I can see that, but he’s handsomer than his dad." She couldn’t resist stretching her hand to pinch Lele’s chubby little cheek.
Yang PeiMin quickly stopped her, "Don’t touch him just like that, and wash your hands before you hold my son. Babies have low immunity and can’t handle germs."
Li Yue nodded and approached Yang PeiMin to wash her hands with water provided by her, whispering, "PeiMin, you’ve become so particular."
"Li Yue, I can’t believe you. Don’t you wash your hands before eating?"
"I do wash then." Saying this, Li Yue inhaled deeply and sighed, "Looks good. I’ll check the kitchen and see what delicious food Yingzi has made, and if she made my meal." With that, she slipped into the kitchen.
Yang PeiMin dried her hands with a cloth, picked up her son, and spoke to Chen Guizhi, "This classmate of mine has come over a few times now, she likes the meals Yingzi makes. She’s a straight shooter, a person who says what she thinks."
Chen Guizhi said nonchalantly, "That’s good, she seems like an upfront person."
Yang PeiMin was preparing to feed Lele. Nowadays, she fed him twice in the morning; she had already come back once during break to feed him, and now it had been a long time since the last feeding. She was really worried he might be hungry.
Chen Guizhi laughed on the side, "This little guy is so clever. I thought since you hadn’t come back yet, I would feed him some formula, but he just doesn’t want to drink it. He took a sip from the nipple and let go. When I tried to give it to him again, he didn’t even suck, just let the nipple stay there, and seemed to find it amusing."
