CHAPTER 394: CHAPTER 98: GINSENG SCAM ARTIST + ILLEGAL RACER = KINDRED SPIRITS?

"We’re here to participate in the race on behalf of Li Bo," Li Bo is Xuerou’s uncle; he had signed up for the race but got into an accident in an earlier competition a few days ago.

"From Old Li’s side, huh? I heard he’s not doing so well right now. You guys have placed a bet of a hundred thousand, right? That’s not a small amount," the stakes in underground racing are cumulative; the top three can take all the bets placed by the participants, plus the external bets, with the first place roughly able to win nearly ten times the prize money.

"Are you kidding me? Has Li Bo hit his head or something, finding someone to fill in for him? Got a decent car and filled it up with two little girls who haven’t even dropped all their baby hair yet. Show your IDs, I bet you’re underage," Ding Zhanhu stood in front of the Ferrari and drew some attention from people around the venue. When they heard that Xuerou and Xiao Xian were representing Li Bo, a few people were discontent and started to pick on them.

"What’s there to show," Xiao Xian clapped back like rattling beans, "Now you’re talking about legality? Are your modified cars legal? Gathering a crowd here to race illegal cars is legal?" Talking to her about the law, they should at least take a look at themselves in the mirror – their faces read "lawless."

Ding Zhanhu looked on for a while and then waved his hand, signaling the troublemakers to quiet down, "Give me the keys, let me check if there’s anything wrong with the car?"

Zeng Xuerou tossed the keys to Ding Zhanhu promptly, which he quite appreciated. After getting into the car, he felt around and looked – the odometer was modified, and the maximum speed could reach three hundred; that was incredible for a car model from ten years ago. When he stepped on the gas, it made a pleasant sound like popcorn popping in the microwave – a well-maintained car, as pristine as a maiden.

It’s just a pity that such a fine car is wasted in the hands of these kids.

"The rules of the race are clear; if the car has no issues, the driver’s age and background don’t matter. Let them race," Ding Zhanhu’s words essentially legitimized Xuerou and Xiao Xian’s right to compete.

The racers were almost all there, and while no one was paying attention, Xiao Xian and Xuerou scoped out the venue for tonight’s race, only to realize that there was no track inside the junkyard.

"Are we racing here?" Xiao Xian and Xuerou whispered to each other. Roughly thirty cars had arrived, of varying quality. With so many cars in a not-so-large junkyard, it was clear that they couldn’t perform normally.

"The sides of the junkyard have an open design; it looks like this spot is the starting point," Xuerou, with her better vision, looked around and made a close guess.

As they were talking, a dazzling silver car arrived like lightning, the latest R series Audi, with a top speed of 400 kilometers per second, reaching 100 kilometers in just four seconds. A trendy-looking young man and woman stepped out of the car – the guy sporting a Mohawk, the woman in tight clothes, with her "extra flesh" at the chest almost popping out.

Xiao Xian and Zeng Xuerou looked at each other, why did they look so familiar? Off with the fur coat, on with the tight clothes – still the same appearance.

"Xuerou, isn’t that woman the scammer from ’Plum Rice Ball’ the other day?" Xiao Xian’s memory wasn’t the best; aside from a few memorable individuals, she tended to forget people after one glance.

"It seems like it’s her; what a small world," Xuerou’s Ferrari paled in comparison to the brand new Audi. Everybody’s attention was on the newly arrived young man and woman.

"Bo Hao, I told you, just with our car alone, we could squash those tractor-like cars, and you still won’t let me place a big bet," the female scammer glanced at the race track and sniffed disdainfully upon seeing Xuerou’s old Ferrari – what a relic still hitting the road. Thanks to Ferrari, her attention turned towards Xiao Xian and Xuerou next to the car. The woman’s eyebrows knitted together, whispering something into the ear of the Mohawk-haired man beside her.

The young man called Bo Hao looked at Xiao Xian and the others for a moment, a vicious look flashing in his eyes. The sale of the fake ginseng had been going smoothly until they stumbled in that well-established wholesale pharmacy; their under-the-table money-making got exposed to the old-timers in the family who reprimanded them and cut off their financial channels.

"They’re also here for the race? Didn’t you say there’s someone called Li Bo who’s pretty skilled? Why did they send over these minions?" Xu Lan Ya and Xu Bohao were cousins and a new racing power rising in North China. From Lunan to Beijing, they nearly swept all underground racers, and this time in Beijing, they coincidentally had their finances cut off, making racing for money an obvious choice.

"With me here, could that Li Bo still stand upright? It was already lenient breaking both his legs," Xu Bohao said harshly, then glanced at the young sisters who were looking at Lan Ya and him with cold eyes. It’s a shame; they’re quite the Qing beauties – it’d be unseemly if they were missing an arm or leg, "Enough talk; testing of the cars has started. Today’s race amount is not small. Go and say hello to the organizers, and later we’ll teach those two who offended you a lesson,"

Xu Lan Ya swayed her long legs and approached Ding Zhanhu, her ample chest dazzling the men around, "Hey handsome, we’re here to race, where’s the track?"

"If you know you’re coming to race, you better button up your clothes properly. Once the mountain road gets going, you wouldn’t want your tires to burst, let alone yourself," Ding Zhanhu replied sardonically, causing Xiao Xian and Xuerou to burst out laughing. Who would have thought this uncle didn’t look like much, but his verbal skills were top-notch.

Xu Lan Ya hit a soft spot and her flirty smile faltered; after giving Ding Zhanhu a glare, she sashayed back.

Although he was blunt, Ding Zhanhu clarified the venue for the race.

Mountain road? A bad premonition rose in Zeng Xuerou’s mind.
