High atop the ninth layer of heaven, the air within the crystal palace hummed with quiet power. The air crackled with intangible energy as the colossal Wheel of Fate spun in a slow, inexorable clockwise dance. With each revolution, wisps of shimmering essence, like threads of fate itself, flowed in and out, weaving the tapestry of life and death across the cosmos.

Zhang Mingrui and Xie Junjie stood in silent reverence before this cosmic spectacle, watching the Goddess performing her work.

A sliver of light, pure gold and impossibly bright, lanced out of the Wheel of Fate. It blazed a fleeting path across the air before vanishing without a trace.

At the same time, the dragon clan sigil on Xie Junjie’s forehead shone brightly and the little boy erupted into a heart-wrenching wail.

"Wuuuuuu..."

Tears welled in Xie Junjie’s eyes, blurring his vision as they spilled onto his cheeks.

"Junjie, what happened?" Zhang Mingrui hastily put his arms around his younger twin. "Are you hurting somewhere? Are you hungry?"

"Noo... wuuuuuuu..."

"Don’t cry, Junjie..." Zhang Mingrui sniffled. "If you cry, then I will also cry... wahhhhhhh!!!"

"Oh, little Princes..."

The Goddess of Fate and Destiny sighed. She turned around to drape her arms around their forms. The boys were only a full head shorter than her.

Xie Junjie sniffled against the Goddess’ shoulder, his glassy eyes were red from grief.

"Mommy..." he murmured. "Mommy is gone."

Once Zhang Mingrui understood the reason for Xie Junjie’s sudden breakdown, he immediately broke into a wail.

"Waaaaaaaaaahhh... Mommy!!! Mommy...!!!!"

The Goddess patted the twin boys repeatedly in an attempt to placate them.

"Don’t cry, Princes... The Crown Prince’s journey in this lifetime has ended. He will soon embark on another."

Xie Junjie pressed his lips together in indignation and raised his head to look at the Goddess.

"Where is Mommy going to go next?"

The silver-haired Goddess shook its head.

"The Wheel of Fate shall decide. Right now, the crisis in the Golden Dragon Palace has successfully been averted, but the war in the Human Realm has yet to reach its conclusion."

Xie Junjie wiped the remaining tears off his face.

"What do I need to do?" He asked in a tiny voice.

The Goddess smiled upon him before she started explaining.

"The grand dance of celestial objects dictates the major events unfolding across the universe.

These movements, in turn, are influenced by the ever-turning Wheel of Fate, its balance tipping with each birth and passing of a creature, shaping the very fabric of existence."

She waved with her hand, and a gigantic mirror materialized out of thin air. Various scenes from three realms were shown.

They saw Qiao Wei being laid inside an ice coffin, his eyes tightly shut and his face the color of death.

Xie Jianshen sat on the cracked floor, holding his cold hand.

They saw Zhang Fengxi riding Xiao Huang into the Human Realm, with Jiang Muchen and the remaining batallion of imperial guards close at his heel.

They saw Wu Shenxia roaring commands at her subordinates while at the same time fighting to win against several bulky demons.

"The Crown Prince’s untimely departure just now has shattered the equilibrium, tipping the scales of good and evil towards the latter.

The universe, in its relentless pursuit of balance, now desperately seeks a champion to tilt the scales back. This, my little Princes, is the very moment we’ve been waiting for.

A surge of karmic energy, a momentous tide, will soon be unleashed. Those who stand with the good will have the first chance to grasp its power and become the universe’s chosen instrument."

The Goddess stood behind Xie Junjie and made him face the crackling Wheel of Fate.

"Star of Unblemished Virtue, normal creatures across the three realms do not have access to the Wheel of Fate. You have been born to the Heavenly Realm for this very purpose.

You need to take all of the karmic energy unleashed by the Wheel of Fate, and contain it within your body."

She then turned to Zhang Mingrui.

"Prince Mingrui, your job is to stabilize your twin brother’s internal energy and make sure that it does not go into disarray. Otherwise, he will be crippled by the humongous amount of karmic energy he absorbed."

Both boys shook from fear.

"B-but what if I can’t do it?" Zhang Mingrui blubbered. He had only started cultivating a few months ago, and he was not the most hardworking person either.

"You have to do it either way," the Goddess narrowed her eyes at him. "Unless you want to leave your twin brother on his own."

"No!" Zhang Mingrui cried out and put his arms around Xie Junjie.

"I will protect Junjie! Teach me how to do it, Goddess! I will do it!"

Xie Junjie’s lips quivered in fear, but placed his hands on top of Zhang Mingrui’s and nodded resolutely.

"We will do our best."

The Goddess beamed at the twin boys.

"Certainly," she said. "I am sure that you will. After all, it was the Crown Prince who gave birth to you."

A sharp crack split the air as the Wheel of Fate lurched.

"It’s coming," the Goddess shouted. "Be prepared, Prince Junjie!"

From within the depth of its core, a bolt of energy erupted, a celestial serpent brimming with karmic power.

Courageously, Xie Junjie reached out, his tiny hands beckoning the power toward him. The bolt, a treacherous viper, writhed towards him, its brilliance blinding all those who dared to look at it.

A shriek tore from Xie Junjie’s throat as the energy slammed into him, coursing through his body in a surge of unimaginable pain.

Some of you might be asking, why can’t the Goddess of Fate and Destiny absorb the karmic power instead? After all she also can access the Wheel of Fate.

The answer is because in her current position, she cannot actively meddle with fate.

Same goes with Star of Unblemished Virtue who has to be born into the Heavenly Realm in order to side with the good.

This story is nearing its end. I think maybe 10 more Chapters?
