CHAPTER 500: CHAPTER 500 : THE END

"OOOOOHHHHHHH!!!"

Zhang Mingrui and Xie Junjie rushed to their mother, almost trampling over their father on the way.

"She’s so tiny!" Zhang Mingrui exclaimed.

"You two were also tiny when you were born," Xie Jianshen remarked.

"Wahhh, she is so soft!"

Xie Junjie shrieked after touching the baby’s little fist.

"I also want to touch!" Zhang Mingrui quickly protested.

The baby was quickly hoisted off Xie Jianyu’s arms and paraded across the room.

"Boys, be gentle!"

Xie Jianshen was on his feet in a flash, chasing after his overenthusiastic nephews.

The little baby girl instantly became the center of attention of all the adults, save for her own parents.

Seizing the golden opportunity by the horns, Zhang Fengxi reached out and drew Xie Jianyu close.

"Oh, Baby."

Zhang Fengxi cupped Xie Jianyu’s face in his hands and crushed their lips together in a fierce kiss.

"I was so worried," he whispered. "Did it hurt very much?"

Xie Jianyu’s smile, though beautiful, held a hint of something else. His touch, as he brushed his fingers down Zhang Fengxi’s jaw, sent a shiver down his husband’s spine.

"Would you like the midwife to cut your stomach open so you know what it feels like?" he asked, his voice a chilling whisper.

Zhang Fengxi gulped, the playful threat sinking in.

"No need."

Wrapping his arms around Xie Jianyu, Zhang Fengxi peppered the side of Xie Jianyu’s head with soft kisses. "Wife," he murmured, "you’ve given me three incredible children. Now, it’s your turn to rest. I’ll handle everything, all three of them. You just focus on healing your body, alright?"

Xie Jianyu hummed in assent. He put his arms around Zhang Fengxi’s neck and snuggled closer to him.

"I am counting a lot on you, then. Unlike me, you have experience taking care of newborns."

He failed to see the nervosity flickering across Zhang Fengxi’s face. A muscle in the alpha’s jaw clenched briefly, a subtle tell that brought a wave of memories crashing down.

He was instantly transported back to the twins’ first few weeks, a blur of frantic cries, endless feedings, and the constant, gnawing worry that only a single parent could understand.

The alpha, so used to unwavering control, found himself at the mercy of two tiny masters who ruled his nights with piercing cries and unpredictable schedules. Even the Emperor’s most pressing tasks paled in comparison to the urgency of the needy babies’ wails.

Sleep became a fragmented luxury, replaced by a constant state of hyper-vigilance. He suffered throughout Zhang Mingrui and Xie Junjie’s first year of childhood, although he relied a lot on his mother, Head Servant Zhou, Mingyu, and Qingyun.

Zhang Fengxi was not sure whether to laugh or cry.

Maybe, the alpha conceded with a hint of self-deprecation, he wasn’t quite the capable parent he imagined himself to be.

But that was in the past!

This time! This time, he was going to shine on the stage! The Supreme General must also become the Supreme Daddy!

When he looked down at Xie Jianyu, he noticed that his wife was looking at his face with growing interest.

"Cough... What is it, Jianbao?" Zhang Fengxi suddenly felt self-conscious. Did he become so handsome overnight that his wife could not help but stare at him?

"I dreamed about this many years ago," Xie Jianyu slowly spoke as he gazed upon Zhang Fengxi’s face.

The first time he experienced child delivery in his previous life, despair clung to him like a shroud. Sadness, loneliness, and death were his only companions.

The first time he gave birth in this life, a flicker of warmth pierced the darkness. Xie Jianshen’s presence offered a great deal of comfort, even as the specter of death loomed and Xie Jianyu knew he was about to die soon enough.

But this time around, joy, unfettered and radiant, washed over him. Blessings, abundant and unexpected, filled his world.

"I am so happy," Xie Jianyu whispered. "It’s like the pain of the past never existed, and I have always been surrounded by people who love me."

Xie Jianyu’s words, though sweet and sincere, scraped raw at Zhang Fengxi’s heart.

What a fool he had been.

A blind, blundering tiger.

The love he craved, the happiness that shimmered on the horizon -- both had always been close by, a treasure he had missed in both lifetimes.

Thankfully, fate, or perhaps the heavens themselves, had granted him another chance.

This time, he would not squander it.

He was going to hold on to his little family with everything he had, keeping them safe and happy forever.

With newfound resolve, Zhang Fengxi pinched Xie Jianyu’s chin, tilting his face up for a kiss, determined to savor every moment.

"You will never, never be alone again," Zhang Fengxi promised with a voice hoarse from suppressed emotions. Their eyes meet in a loving gaze.

"You will always have me and our children to bother you day in and day out. And if you still don’t have enough, there will still be your annoying elder brother and your pestilent big nephew."

Xie Jianyu chuckled.

"Yes," he confirmed as he pulled at Zhang Fengxi’s neck for another kiss. "We will all be together from now on."
