Chapter 59 : Lunch For The Lions
CHAPTER 59: CHAPTER 59 : LUNCH FOR THE LIONS
"Absolutely. Amazing," Zhang Fengxi said, one side of his cheek twitching violently. It just happened to be the side that was directly facing a hungry-looking lioness.
The lioness stuck out her tongue and licked Zhang Fengxi’s cheek. She then sat near Zhang Fengxi, her eyes not leaving the young alpha at all, not even for one second.
"Do you bring me here to admire them?" Zhang Fengxi asked.
Or maybe to feed him to them while still alive?
Zhang Fengxi failed to see the differences.
Maybe first admire then become their lunch.
Xie Jianshen covered his mouth with a handkerchief and tossed out an amused laugh.
"No way, are you afraid of them? You don’t have lions in your palace, so I thought you might want to see them."
"..."
"I didn’t expect the heir of the Longjing Palace to be afraid of lions. Oh well."
"..."
If Xie Jianshen thought that he could undermine Zhang Fengxi by using this underhanded tactic, he was wrong.
Besides, which sane person did not tremble when he was surrounded by these many hungry beasts?
Zhang Fengxi made a mental note to return the favor if Xie Jianshen ever came to Longjing Palace for a visit.
He needed to know that the tigers in Longjing Palace were as intimidating as the lions in Shuiran Palace.
"I am a little troubled recently," Xie Jianshen let out a soft sigh. "I am hoping to seek your insight."
"Oh? What insight might it be?"
The palace mistress crossed his legs and steepled his fingers before his chin.
"Well... I thought that I was being quite direct when I told you last time that you and Little Yu should not hang out together. And still, you two kept finding your ways to each other. Honestly, it is disconcerting."
Zhang Fengxi raised an eyebrow at the smiling omega opposite him.
"I did not recall that I agreed."
Xie Jianshen’s smile faded, his eyes gleaming with cold light. At that time, Xie Jianyu interrupted them and asked Zhang Fengxi to leave.
"Indeed, you did not. Does this mean that you will keep going against my wish?"
"I have a question, Palace Mistress. Why don’t you want me to befriend your younger brother?"
Xie Jianshen snickered.
"Friendship? Between the two of you? I think that your interest in him goes beyond mere friendship."
"You are wrong," Zhang Fengxi said. "I have no hidden ambition. I do not seek to harm him."
"What reason do you have to want to befriend him, then?"
Zhang Fengxi swallowed hard. It was his guilt. He owed Xie Jianyu too much in his past life. He wanted to repay Xie Jianyu’s kindness and let him have a more comfortable life this time around. But of course, he could not say all those out loud.
Xie Jianshen might think that Zhang Fengxi was insane.
"If he becomes the new heavenly emperor, my entire palace will benefit from his ascension."
Xie Jianshen chuckled.
"Oh? So you are secretly an opportunist."
Zhang Fengxi grinned.
"Don’t you need people to side with Xie Jianyu? Why add one more enemy if you can add one more ally?"
"Heh."
Amusement twinkled in Xie Jianshen’s eyes.
"I have yet to meet someone like you. Interesting."
"So, do I have your permission to hang around him?"
"No."
"..."
"Let me correct myself. You can hang around him when he’s in Muchen’s presence."
"..."
Jiang Muchen was going to play Xie Jianyu’s chaperone?
"With all due respect, Palace Mistress, your son is not much different from me."
They were both alphas. If an omega was not supposed to hang out alone with an alpha, how was it better if an omega hung out with two alphas? If anything, the danger was doubled!
"Muchen loves Little Yu," Xie Jianshen said. "He won’t do anything to harm Little Yu."
"And you, Palace Mistress? Do you love your younger brother?"
If he truly did, why resorted to such extreme measures to change Xie Jianyu into something he was not?
Xie Jianyu was better off living as an omega. He should not be forced to live as an alpha.
Xie Jianshen leaned against his seat and sighed.
"What do you know, Prince Zhang Fengxi?" he said slowly. "When my mother died soon after giving birth to Little Yu, you were only a toddler. What do you know about the pain of being an omega who suffers from the pressure of giving birth just because the baby is not an alpha?"
"..."
"Omegas are nothing but bed slaves and baby factories."
"It doesn’t have to be that way."
Xie Jianshen sneered at Zhang Fengxi. He looked like an older version of Xie Jianyu, now that Zhang Fengxi looked at him carefully.
"You talk big, Prince Zhang Fengxi. Will you accept an omega as your emperor?"
"I will."
"..."
The doubtful expression on Xie Jianshen’s face made Zhang Fengxi continue talking.
"Xie Jianyu is a kind and loving person. He always works hard to get to where he is. He is stronger and braver than most alphas I know."
"..."
"He is going to be an excellent heavenly emperor."
"..."
Xie Jianshen rose to his feet and looked at the many lions who were still surrounding the small seating area with hungry eyes and drooling mouths.
"No food for today," Xie Jianshen announced. "Show some manners to my guest."
The lions let out a low groan. They lowered their heads in disappointment and soon went away.
Zhang Fengxi exhaled out of relief.
As expected of dragon blood. Omega or alpha, the emperor’s blood still prevailed.
"For your own good, stay away from the Golden Dragon Palace," Xie Jianshen said in a low voice.
"I heard that the Empress has finally announced her pregnancy."
"Hmm."
Xie Jianshen smiled into the distance and said nothing in response.
Zhang Fengxi lowered his gaze.
In his previous life, the Empress fell pregnant with the Emperor’s child. Unfortunately, she miscarried before she carried the baby to full term.
Now he knew who caused the Empress to miscarry in his previous life.
It was definitely Xie Jianshen.
