Dance Of The Dragons
Chapter 61 : A Rebellious Intent
CHAPTER 61: CHAPTER 61 : A REBELLIOUS INTENT
The Heavenly Emperor was the most important person in the first layer of the entire heavenly realm. Only select people had the chance to meet him regularly, among which the Palace Masters and the palace officials.
Omegas who never amounted to anything usually just stayed at home and waited for their alphas to come back and tell them about news from outside. Meeting the Heavenly Emperor in this manner was thus reminiscent of gazing at the sun directly.
Although the Heavenly Empress complained a lot about not being favored by her esteemed husband, she too had to swallow her nervosity when said husband decided to pay him a visit.
Meanwhile, the other omegas held their spirit companions in their arms and kowtowed so low that their foreheads touched the ground.
They were too terrified to look up. Even the sound of the languid footsteps and fabrics dragging across the ground was enough to make them tremble from fear.
"This subject greets His Majesty," the Empress curtsied in front of the Heavenly Emperor. She only bent her knees for a short while when she was pulled up by the Emperor.
"Aren’t you pregnant? Why are you being careless with your body?"
The Empress could hardly hide her happiness when she heard the Emperor’s loving words.
Xie Jianyu cupped his hands in front of the Empress and solemnly said, "Congratulations to the Empress on the pregnancy. I pray for a safe delivery."
The Empress hated Xie Jianyu, but she was not stupid enough to show it in front of the Emperor.
Fortunately, she was a talented actress.
"My son," she cooed. "I will surely give birth to a little alpha brother for you and Jianshen."
Alpha brother. She was brimming with confidence. Xie Jianyu did not know what to think about it. If the baby turned out to be a male alpha, all his sacrifices would be for naught. He was going to be a broken omega for nothing.
The Emperor put an arm around his son and patted his back. The father and son exchanged furtive glances. No words were said, but they knew what the other party was thinking about.
"Don’t worry," Xie Jianyu could hear his elder brother’s voice echoing in his head. "Imperial Father wants you to inherit this throne. He never planned to sire a child with that vile woman, let alone let the child sit on the Dragon Throne."
But the Empress ended up being pregnant after all.
It was unavoidable with an alpha and omega couple. His father was the Heavenly Emperor. It made sense to have as many offspring as possible, even if it meant that he had to erase the image of the first empress from his heart.
"The Empress is having an omega gathering here," the Emperor smiled above the sea of heads that refused to gaze into his face. "Jianyu, let’s not disturb them further."
"This subject bids farewell to His Majesty," the Empress bowed her head slightly.
Xie Jianyu and the Emperor left together. Only then did the omegas dare to look up and rise to their feet.
Liu Wenyuan cast a look in the distance.
He could see the younger man walking behind the Emperor.
Crown Prince.
Crown Prince Xie Jianyu.
Liu Wenyuan’s heart was filled with jealousy and anger. He accidentally squeezed his wolf pup. The wolf pup reacted to his emotions and cried out.
Before Liu Wenyuan could stop him, the wolf pup already leaped down from his master’s arms and ran down the stairs.
"Help!"
"The wolf pup!"
"He is running away!"
"Someone, catch him!!!"
Both Xie Jianyu and the Emperor turned around in astonishment. By then, the wolf pup was only three chis away from them.
The little beast bared its teeth and pounced at Xie Jianyu.
"Imperial Father, please stay back!" Xie Jianyu shouted. He raised the sheathed Winter Frost in front of him to block the wolf’s attack. Alas, the wolf pup was very agile. It quickly changed its attacking direction and bit hard into Xie Jianyu’s arm.
"...!!!"
Xie Jianyu knitted his brows from pain. Before he recovered from the sudden attack, the wolf swung a paw at Xie Jianyu’s cheek. The last attack left four parallel lines on Xie Jianyu’s beautiful face. Blood slowly dripped down and drenched his golden robe.
"WHOSE ANIMAL IS THIS!" The Emperor roared angrily.
Once the wolf pup heard the Emperor’s thundering voice, it quickly curled up into a small furry ball on the ground and whined pitifully.
Soon, the Empress, the eunuch, and Liu Wenyuan ran down the stairs. The sight of Xie Jianyu’s torn arm and bleeding cheek almost caused Liu Wenyuan’s heart to stop beating on the spot.
"Your Majesties!!!" Liu Wenyuan fell to his knees in front of Xie Jianyu. "Please let this subject offer his humblest apology! This wolf pup is this subject’s spirit companion. This subject did not train it well! This subject is willing to shoulder any punishment from Your Majesties!"
Anger flashed in the Emperor’s eyes.
"Very good," he slowly said. "You spoke well. You must indeed take responsibility for inciting your spirit companion against the Crown Prince!"
Liu Wenyuan trembled from head to toe.
"B... But I..."
Xie Jianyu turned around to face his father.
"Your Majesty, there is no need to punish her because of this trivial matter. I am fine. Let’s go back to the Golden Dragon Palace."
The Emperor’s face darkened.
"You are fine, but I am not. This time it attacked you, next time it might attack me. Are you still going to dismiss it as a ’trivial matter’ then?"
"That..."
Xie Jianyu was at a loss for words.
"A spirit companion responds to its master’s heart. Clearly, this innocent-looking omega harbors a rebellious intent!"
The Emperor’s words sent chills down Liu Wenyuan’s spine. He wanted to apologize, but the words were stuck in his throat.
His silence made the Emperor even angrier.
The Emperor flicked his sleeves angrily and gave an order, "Take him and his unruly baby wolf to the prison. Let’s see if one night is enough to change its violent temperament!"
