bChapter /b15

b“/bNo need. I’m heading down the mountains now,” Ariel replied. She wasn’t keen bon /bsticking around and being a nuisance.

bJust /bas she was about to move baway/b, a hand grabbed her wrist. She looked bup /band met Jayson’s nonchnt gaze.

He saidb, /bb“/bbYou /bcan bstay/b. I’ll change to another room.”

Ariel frowned. She was about to pull her hand away when Jayson let go first and deliberately stepped away.

b“/bIt’ll be hard to exin to Grandma if you leave now,” he said.

Realization dawned on Ariel, and she asked in disbelief, “You want me to cover for byou /band Nancy?”

She couldn’t believe that he would do this just so it would be easier for him to exin to Betty. What exactly did he take her for?

Jayson looked at her as he adjusted his cufflinks. “None of this would be a problem bif /bbyou /bhadn’t shown bup/bb./bb” /b

Ariel felt a surge of frustration rise within her. Was he implying that this was all her fault?

She pursed her lips and set a condition. “Fine, but you have to approve my resignation immediatelyb./b”

Jayson narrowed his eyes slightlyb, /bsmiling faintly as he replied, b“/bbOkay/bb./bb” /b

Ariel couldn’t make out what his smile meant. She went straight to her room.

As for what happened between them, no wonder Jayson hadn’t told her abouting to Quin’s Peak. It turned out he was nning to bring Nancy here for a date.

Had Ariel known about this, she wouldn’t have agreed toe.

She rubbed her temples. Though she no longer cared, she couldn’t help but feel bothered.

Ariel unpacked her clothes from her suitcase and then checked out the activities offered by the guesthouse. bThere /bwas also a horse range with staff guiding the rides, which seemed pretty interesting.

She decided to head over ito /ithe horse range.

Ariel heard a woman’s yful voice as soon as she arrived. “Stop rutting against me, Lucasb! /bbYou’re /bbeing so shamelessb!/bb” /b

b“/bThe horse is acting up, but you’re ming me for it?b” /bthe man repliedzilyb, /bhis tone full of mischief.

Ariel froze in her bsteps/b, her gaze wandering over. A couple was riding a horse togetherb–/bbone /bof the bman’s /bhands was holding the reins from behind the woman, while his other hand tilted the woman’s chin up as they shared a kiss.

Perhaps her gaze had been too obvious as it made Lucas nce bover/b. His gaze darkened, and he bfrowned/b. It bseemed /bblike /bbhe /bdidn’t appreciate being interrupted during their intimate moment.

Ariel’s bpride /bbwas /bbwounded /bby his gaze.

She had been used bto /bbeing bprotected /bbby Lucas /bfor bover /bba /bbdecade/bb. /bHe had btreated /bher like bshe /bbwas /bhis one band /bbonly/bb, /bbnever /bbonce /bbspeaking /bharshly bto /bbher/b. For bmany /bbyears/bb, /bhe had bpoured /bhis blove /bbfor /bbher/bb, /bband /bbhe /bwas bthe /bfirst man she bhad /bbever /bbfallen /bbfor /b

Even when he bgot /bbinto /bbtrouble /bbthree /bbyears /bbago/bb, /bbAriel /bhad bpromised /bbMorgan /bthat bshe /bbwould /bbmarry /bbJayson /bin bexchange /bbfor /breducing bLucas/bb‘ /bbsentence/bb–/bbjust /bso bhe /bbcould /bbget /bbout /bbsooner/b.

Though she bhad /bblet /bbgo /bbof /bbthe /bbpast/bb, /bbhe /bwas still bthe /bbmost /bbimportant /bfamily bmember /bbto /bbher/bb. /b

bBut /bbnow /bthat Lucas had be so indifferent and impatientb, /bAriel bcouldn’t /bhelp bbut /bbwonder /bbwhat /bwas real banymore/b.

She had been with Jayson for three yearsb, /bbyet /bshe still couldn’t win his heart. However, Lucas had once bloved /bher bdearly/b.

bWould /bkinship change btoo /bwhen love bfaded/bb? /b

Ariel did not bother greeting them. She hurried to leave.

Wendy spotted her. “Ariel? I didn’t know byou /bwere here as well. Come and have dinner with us! My friend bNancy /bband /bher bboyfriend /bare staying here too.” 12

Ariel was taken aback bfor /ba moment when she found out that Wendy and Nancy actually knew each other.

bLucas /bwould have known how terrible her married life had been then. But no one seemed to care about her well–being as

bJayson’s /bwife.

b“/bbNo /bneed. I’ve eaten dinner already.b” /bAriel’s mood plummeted suddenly, and she turned to leave.

Wendy took another nce at her before nudging Lucas. “Your sister isn’t looking too well–I wonder if she’s sick. bYou /b

should go check on her.”

He remained unperturbed. “She’s already an adult. I don’t know why she’s acting so fussyb–/bshe won’t die from it banyway/bb./bb” /b

“Why are you so indifferent toward her?” Wendy asked, confused.

Lucas raised his brows and chuckled. “She’s just my sister. Only you and Lori visited me for the past three years I was in prison. Wouldn’t I know bwho /bto treat best?”

Wendy’s face flushed red instantly. “Good to know that you care-b” /b

Ariel stoppeding out of her room. She felt ufortable no matter which couple she ran into.

She was Jayson’s wife band /bbLucas/b‘ sister–the closest person to them in the past–but now she waspletely shut out. Why bother tormenting herself?

She no longer cared. After browsing through a foreign drone forum for two hoursb, /bshe took her medicine and slept through

the night.

Ariel decided to head down the mountain today.

She stepped out of her room at 8:00 am. Right across from her, the door to the suite opened, and bJayson /band Nancy walked

bout /btogether.
