Dead at Heart

A professional like him would always make sure to finish the job. Yet Ariel hade through the crisis remarkably unscathed.
Chad asked, “Was it Jayson who helped you deal with the man?”
Ariel nodded. “He was the one who saved mest night. Things got a littleplicated, but I wasn’t hurt. You don’t have to worry about me.”
To put their minds at ease, Ariel gave Chad and Janice a brief ount of what happened when she and Jayson met Nancy yesterday.
Janice’s jaw dropped. It took her a moment to recover. “Damn… Jayson is one cold–hearted man. They were together for so long, yet he discarded her just like that.”
While Janice was furious over what Nancy had done to Ariel, Jayson’s ruthlessness sent chills down her
spine.
and Clinging to Ariel’s arm, Janice’s emotions were a swirl of anger and relief. “Thank goodness you Jayson settled the divorce so peacefully. You didn’t cling to him either. Otherwise, with him being so clever and dangerous, who knows what he might have done to you?”
It truly was a blessing that Ariel had chosen to leave Jayson. With his personality, Janice couldn’t even imagine what he would have done if Ariel had refused the divorce and stubbornly held on to him.
Ariel pondered Janice’s words.
Would Jayson really have gone that far? She couldn’t say for sure.
Chad, however, saw no point in entertaining such hypotheticals. “They’re already divorced. What you’re worried about isn’t going to happen. They’ve gone their separate ways, and they’re no longer connected
in any way.”
He patted Ariel’s shoulder reassuringly. “Don’t worry. You hold a much more important position now. The government values you highly.
“Nancy and Sarah brought this on themselves. By trying to pull those stunts, they’ve onlynded themselves in even bigger trouble. You’ve already gotten your revenge. Forget about them and move on
with your life.”
Life hadn’t been easy for Ariel over the past few years–whether living with the Sandersons or enduring her two–year marriage to Jayson. 11
She could see the worry in their eyesb, /bso she tilted her head and smiled softly. “You’re right.”
She would just wait and see what punishments Nancy and Sarah would ultimately face.
That afternoon, Ariel had a call. She nced at the screen and answered.
“Hello?”
“Are you alright?” Lucas‘ deep voice came through, thick with restrained anger. “I heard that you were in danger.”
Ariel frowned. She had blocked Lucas‘ number, yet he was contacting her through a different one. Without a word, she hung up.
She couldn’t be bothered to respond to him, even feeling that taking his call had disrupted her work.
Her thoughts shifted to Arthur. She felt she owed him her gratitude for what he had done yesterday.
Arthur had risked his life when he rammed his car into the other vehicle. If not for the sturdiness of his
car, he would have been gravely injured. Even so, Ariel was certain he had sustained at least minor injuries from the impact.
Unfortunately, she would have to go through Jayson if she wanted to thank him. The thought made her hesitate.
She hoped Arthur woulde himself to retrieve Jayson’s car. That way, she could thank him in person.
Since Nancy and Sarah’s actions were considered serious criminal offenses, the authorities had kept the details from the public for now. Instead, they released updates on the investigation into Nancy’spetition scandal, announcing her arrest.
It quickly became widely known that Nancy had been guilty of giarism.
Meanwhile, Ariel’s name was spreading fast due to the recent chain of events. As the wife of Bluum Corp’s owner, she naturally drew public interest.
While Nancy faced growing criticism, Ariel received an outpouring of support and encouragement.
After lunch at Faye Technologies‘ cafeteria, Ariel was heading back to her office when Chad strode toward her with a grim expression. He grabbed her wrist and lowered his voice. “We have a problem.”
Ariel was baffled by his statement.
Chad’s face was ice–cold as he exhaled sharply. “We don’t know who leaked the information, but a media outlet just published an article iming you got Jayson to marry you by… drugging him and throwing yourself at him.” (1)
