CHAPTER 74: DEAN BLACK

Feeling Jinn’s sharp gaze on him, the young man gave himself a quick look, and soon a look of enlightenment appeared on his face. "Ah, are you bothered by the way I am sitting?"

"To tell you the truth, I am." Jinn replied calmly and sat down on the bed facing the boy. "It’s not you lying on there. That is fine; just take off your shoes first."

Saying this, Jinn looked at the dirty soles of the young man’s shoes and added, "Would not want to sit on dirt now, would we?"

With a surprised look, the young boy stared at Jinn for a few seconds before he sat up straight with a chuckle, "As you wish, sir."

"You know, you sound like my dad, somewhat." "Relaxing into the chair, with his arms spread," the boy said. "What a weird thing to say... anyways, I am Dean Black."

"Jinn Alcott."

Jinn followed Dean to stand up and shake his extended hand while asking, "Are you a noble as well?"

"No no, nothing like that." Dean shook his head with an embarrassed smile and said, "I am just a son of an ordinary merchant."

Jinn nodded while thinking, ’Yeah, sure buddy, I believe you.’

"I did not see you in the orientation today." Jinn changed his focus to the dress the boy was wearing and asked, "and this morning I saw you outside, but the academy does not allow that."

Dean smiled proudly before turning around and sitting back down. "You might not know this, but the orientation lasts for two days. Today was the last date."

Seeing the surprised look on Jinn’s face, his smile widened as he added, "I was allowed to leave in this period, but now that it is over, I am stuck here just like you."

Jinn finally understood everything. This time he also realized that Dean was smarter than he initially thought him to be.

Since the information about the extra day of orientation was not mentioned in the letter, there had to be a way he acquired the information from.

’Did he arrive early to gather information and get a head start on others?’

As if reading what was on Jinn’s mind, he added.

"Man, I came so early to get this very room, but who would have thought that I would get bored so easily?" Dean leaned in the chair and muttered, "there are still two years to go..."

"Why this room?" the black haired devil could not help but wonder if there was something special about the room. ’Check the room, imp.’

’On it, master.’ The reply came directly into his mind.

Ever since his contract with the imp was completed, Jinn could not only see its original form but also carry on a conversation with it telepathically.

Dean’s smile faltered when he heard Jinn’s question. With an exasperated look, he said, "It looks like I have a lot to teach you, my friend."

Leaning forward, he asked with an unusually serious look on his face, "What is the number of our room?"

Jinn instantly glanced at the key that was still in his left hand. When his gaze fell on the number ’69,’ his face instantly darkened. ’Wait, don’t tell me.’

Dean saw his roommate’s face turning black and nodded seriously, "it seems like you are not so hopeless after all. Indeed, as you might have guessed, I wanted the legendary room of love."

’Love, my ass.’ Jinn instantly wanted to smack the boy in the face but held himself back. "No wonder you were slapped in the morning."

Dean did not show any anger hearing Jinn’s words. On the contrary, he laughed out loud.

As they started to chat, Jinn also started to open up to the boy a little, revealing his past just enough to paint a picture in the boy’s head and make him lower his guard before him.

Soon, the voice in his head returned. The imp said. ’There is nothing noteworthy inside the room.’

Jinn nodded internally before speaking, "I should start settling in. It was a long journey up here."

Dean thought Jinn was talking about his travels and said, "you do that; I will take a nap as well. Did not sleep well at night. Your uniform should be arriving soon."

He even winked at the end of his sentence, letting Jinn wonder about the activities he had been doing while staying up.

"But I did not give anyone my size."

Dean smiled and then replied with a cryptic tone. "There are sharp eyes in this place, Jinn, and even sharper minds."

Just as Jinn was about to start unpacking, the boy spoke again, "I like you, Jinn."

’What the—’

"So, I will let you in on a little secret." When Jinn looked back, the boy was walking towards his bed while speaking.

"You might have heard rumors about the special class. They are true, and the only way to enter one is to pass a test that they will not tell anyone about. The test might have already begun, or it could be happening soon in one of the classes."

Dean lazily climbed into the bed while continuing, "The only thing I can tell you for certain is that if you do bad on the test, you can be thrown out of the academy."

With that, Dean turned towards the wall without saying anything else.

"Thanks for telling me that." Jinn turned back and slowly started unpacking the suitcase. His eyes shone with a devilish glint.

What Dean had said left him with a lot to think about. He had almost forgotten about the special classes he heard about from the girls in the morning.

Had Dean not told him about it, he might not have even found out about it.

The contents of the test and its duration were still a mystery.

But...

There was one thing Jinn was now sure about.

’Indeed, Thanks for telling me, Dean Black.’ Jinn pulled out the fresh clothes from his suitcase and placed them on the bed along with an creepy old box. His pupils suddenly turned vertical as he looked at the last item he pulled out from the bag.

The familiar item, the souvenir of his first kill and first deal in this world.

Jack in the Box.

Staring at the creepy joker, his lips curled upwards dangerously. ’Thanks for telling me not to underestimate you.’
