Death Mage with an SS-Rank Talent
Chapter 43
Chapter 43: Chapter 43A man and woman were walking down a deserted street at night
"Hey, is this even feasible?" the man asked about their orders.
"Feasible? No way, it is", the woman said.
"Then what can we do?" the man asked the woman, who clearly appeared more intelligent than the man, which the man acknowledged too.
"What they say us to do", the woman replied.
The man frowned at the reply and said, "That’s a suicide. I don’t want to die".
This wasn’t the answer he was looking forward to, and that made him a bit unhappy.
"No one wants to die, but do you want to rebel against them? You wouldn’t take a step before you meet your end and meeting your end would be a boon", the woman warned him.
The orders from their higher-ups came that morning and the mission assigned to them was a death sentence essentially. Moreover, the mission would not even gain much merit anyway for their descendants to enjoy the benefits.
If it was a mission that could earn benefits for their family, at least they could die with peace of mind, but it isn’t.
Even though that was the case, there was nothing those two could do about it. If they go against the orders, then that would be the end of them.
It would be better to die on the mission instead of waiting to see what awaits them if they don’t take on this mission.
The higher-ups are far crueler than government dogs. At least, if the government dogs caught them, they would have enough food and water. They would be treated with basic human needs, but their higher-ups are not humans at all. They were monsters wearing human skin.
The punishments that the government doles out would appear as punishment for a child in comparison.
They couldn’t but take on the mission that they were ordered to. There was no other choice for them.
The man sighed in defeat, "So, when does that stupid train arrive?"
"Tomorrow morning", the woman said, "Make sure you are on time".
After that they split up and went on their ways.
---
"Sarah, welcome home", a woman greeted Sarah as she returned.
"Have you eaten?" the woman asked Sarah.
"Yes I did, Lily", Sarah replied as he fell onto the couch.
Seeing Sarah’s exhausted face, Lily asked, "Is work that tiring?"
"You know, you don’t need to work overtime anymore", Lily said.
"I know but that was a commitment that I made with the company when you got sick. They helped you out, and now I have to do my part", Sarah replied in a sad tone.
From the tone, it can be inferred that she didn’t like working with the company, but she had no choice. Once she did, but she made a choice back then.
Her love, her life, Lily needed help and she did what anyone in her position would do. With that, the right to chose has ended for her but she is nonetheless happy about it in the end.
She got what she wanted, and for that, she would do anything, even sell her soul, which was exactly what she did.
"Sarah, I know that you are the reason behind my survival. I am not an idiot. I know that you made some kind of devil’s bargain with someone to save me. I am happy to be alive and that you care for me so much, but looking at you, I feel bad about this".
"Whatever you are doing, it’s taking its toll on you. I can clearly see that. Even if I am alive, the way you are living, I don’t like it. We were supposed to be happy in our life, not like this", Lily spoke, looking at Sarah.
Even though she came alive after that ordeal that almost killed her, the life she was having was way worse than what she had had before. It was almost as if they were just living by.
No, it can be said that they were just existing, not living a life anymore. This was something that she couldn’t accept anymore but she also knew that there was no way out of this.
Whatever Sarah did, she did to save her, and for that, Sarah is on the hook. For how long? Lily has no idea, and neither does Sarah.
Lily couldn’t live like this. She didn’t want to, but how could she leave the woman who loved her so much that she sold her soul to the devil just to save her?
"Lily, I am tired", Sarah stood up and went straight to bedroom.
Lily sighed but said nothing more.
It was just like this since a few months ago, after she was saved.
She understood whatever Sarah was doing was taking a toll on her but there was nothing that she could do to help her. It’s more like she wouldn’t let Lily help her. Whatever burdens she was bearing, she decided to do them alone.
Lily sighed in defeat and went to store the food in the fridge, the food that she had prepared for Sarah. In the last few weeks, it was like that.
The frequency of her returning home late into the night has increased and there are many times that she would eat outside and not inform her.
Normally, that should upset her. Sёar?h the N?velFire(.)net website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.
In ordinary situations, most partners in a relationship would think whether their partners are having an affair, but not Lily. There are reasons for her belief.
To her, if only Sarah was having an affair, that would be much better. Even though Sarah didn’t say what kind of payment she paid to save her, Lily understood well that the payment was something substantial and it was taking a toll on Sarah.
So, to her, if Sarah had an affair, she would be relieved, but she knew whatever was happening, it may not end for Sarah nor for her. Though she knew that, she could do nothing about that. She can only stand by Sarah and face whatever is to come, just as she did for her.
