Death Mage with an SS-Rank Talent
Chapter 44
Chapter 44: Chapter 44The train station was packed with a lot of people. Most of them are young students who awakned a few weeks ago along with their parents.
In four days, it would be the start of the academies. So, everyone is here to leave for their academies. Even if it was only a day away, if they want to use a train, this day is the perfect to leave.
The trains here are not daily trains. Most would only appear once or twice a week. The trains travel a long distance before they return.
Of course, when a train leaves at one end, a similar train leaves at the other end, making it possible to run in both directions, but that means they have to wait for days to board that train again.
This was because, there would be only a single train running in the same line. Of course, many other trains would follow the same line for a while and divert to other lines after a distance.
So, the students from all over the alliance would be in the train stations at the moment, making it crowded.
---
A man and a woman are also among them.
The woman was Sarah and the man’s name was Jarod, the one she was preparing a plan with the previous night. They are here on a mission. So, they didn’t appear near to each other but one can see the other.
When they arrived first, they just nodded to each other and after that, no other communication between them, but bothe their eyes were on their taeget who arrived a few minutes after them.
It was a boy, who came along with his parents to the station. He was someone who had awakened recently and was here now for the train to reach the academy that he joined a few days ago.
A few minutes later, the train arrived and the boy entered a cabin compartment, and so did Sarah and Jarod, but each entered through different doors.
Sarah’s berth was in a different compartment entirely, while Jarod’s was in the same compartment as the boy.
The boy entered the compartment and was standing at the door, waving to his parents. So, for Jarod, it’s best to take the other door and so he did.
When he completes the mission, it’s best to have fewer connections with the boy. The fewer there are, the better it would be for him.
In the alliance, there are professions that revolve around Fate. There are many of them, each though connected to Fate, has their own path.
That’s not important. The important thing was the profession called Divinator. They can use Divination to know what or who caused a thing.
Of course, there are a lot of ways to escape their eyes.
The best way is that one’s fate is powerful than those divinators but that’s very difficult. They are connected to fate. So, the chances of someone having a higher fate value is almost nil.
The second way was to make fewer connections with the thing that those divinators were divinating on. This was the best thing, and many do so.
Divinators can’t exactly see what happened. Based on things that occur in the world, they theorize what happened.
So, if a person was randomly killed, these divinations would not work.
Jarod is not going to kill the boy randomly. No, the boy is on the list to be killed, though at the bottom of the list and was given as a mission to him.
The only reason why he even made it onto the list was because he became the top ranker in the alliance exam.
The girl that awakened the SS-Rank profession was absent for the exam. This was something everyone knew. They also heard rumors that she had already joined the academy, but which one, they had no idea.
Since she was absent, someone else would get the top ranker position. That was a given, but everyone was surprised when a Death Mage became the top ranker.
This alerted their higher-ups, but just for a moment.
He is a death mage, and there was no death-related professional that has reached rank-7, so they don’t need to worry about him much.
The main reason he made it onto the list was because the higher-ups were sure that the boy would reach Rank-6 and could become a menace to them. So, they want to nip him in the bud.

A few minutes after the train started, Jarod left his cabin and went to check on the boy’s cabin.
He can’t just barge in, so he softly checked the door. He wanted to assess the situation here before he can slit the boy’s throat, as to not attract anyone’s attention.
He was not dumb to think that no one would notice the boy dead after the deed was done, but he didn’t want to leave clues that could lead to him.
Every cabin has two passengers. Whether the other one boarded the train or not, he has no idea. He wanted to check, and if there was no other passenger, then he could quickly complete his mission there and then, but luck was not on his side.
The cabin’s door was locked and cabins are clearly made for privacy. So he can’t see inside the cabin.
"Damn it", Jarod cursed internally.
There was nothing that he could do. So, he left and returned to his cabin.
---
Almost an hour later, Jarod went out to see if there were any changes. He checked the boy’s cabin, and the door opened easily, but there was a problem.
No one was inside, which puzzled Jarod.
He saw that there was luggage on both sides, which lessened his worries. The boy is still on the train.
"He probably went to the bathroom, but both did at the same time", Jarod muttered, wondering how that happened.
He shook his head and left the boy’s cabin. There is another passenger here. If they see him here, one might get suspicious; they might identify him as a suspect. So, he exited the cabin and turned towards his cabin and saw a surprise.
It was his target, who was probably returning from the bathroom.
"The boy definitely saw me leaving his cabin", Jarod looked around, "There is no one. This might be the best chance that I would get to eliminate the boy", he decided in his mind.
Jarod smiled at the boy and nodded his head as a courtesy to look as if nothing was wrong. The boy nodded back.
When they were almost near each other, it was then that Jarod pulled out his dagger and stabbed directly at the boy’s head.
