Chapter 97: Chapter 97Aaron rubbed his head, feeling the headache from thinking about what to do at the moment.

In front of him stands a monster, though a peaceful but monster, nonetheless. To leave, he has to clear the trial area. It means he has to kill the monster no matter what, but he didn’t feel the will to kill this one.

When killing someone or something, one shouldn’t feel any guilt or else that would be a heart demon, which would only kill their will to live as time goes on.

So, if you aren’t up to the task, it’s best to avoid such tasks.

"What to do?" Aaron muttered as he started to think of a solution.

If he kills the deer monster, he would definitely feel bad about it. The reason this monster was not dangerous to humans, as long as it was not provoked by them.

Killing such a monster feels bad.

Like him, that deer has every right to live in this world. The reason why he didn’t feel bad about killing all those monsters in the trial was because those monsters would attack him and kill him if possible, even if he did nothing.

So, it was a matter of survival, but now that’s not the case. There was no reason to kill this. S~ea??h the N?vel(F)ire.ηet website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

If he were hungry and couldn’t go on, killing that would not be bad, but that was not the case either.

"Ah, I remember", Aaron’s face brightened up, and he searched his collections from the trial.

In this trial, he not only collected corpses of monsters but also some herbs and treasures.

"There it is", he pulled out a handful of green grass, with a bit of silver shining at the edges.

This was called Silver grass, which he remembered from the book where he saw the deer. This grass was the favourite food of the Silvermoon Crystal Deer.

"Hey buddy, I am not going to hurt you. Here, come and eat", Aaron stretched his hand, which had the silver grass.

The deer, which had long seen the arrival of Aaron, didn’t care about him, but when he pulled the grass, the deer immediately became attracted.

It slowly approached Aaron and started nibbling at the grass. Soon, it started to feel comfortable enough without holding much.

Even when Aaron touched its head, the deer didn’t reject the gesture.

Once it had its fill, it lifted its head and breathed out onto Aaron’s face.

"Aaah, that smells bad", Aaron made a wiping gesture with his hand in front of his face, hoping that the smell would disperse.

"That’s for that", Aaron looked at the deer and said.

    Blaaa!

    Blaaa!

The deer looked clearly pleased with what it did and even announced the great deed it did, before leaving.

    ---

    Clap!

    Clap!

"Haha, well done, you have completed the trial successfully", came the man’s voice as soon as the monster was subdued.

Aaron turned around to see it was the same man who spoke with him in the white room.

"Ah, senior, is the trial really over?" Aaron asked doubtfully.

The trial seemed simple. He had only killed lower-ranked monsters. Even the last one, the Silvermoon Crystal Deer, he didn’t kill it; instead made a friend of it.

A trial was supposed to be difficult, but this was very easy, too easy for him.

After a minute of thinking, a thought appeared that could answer why the trial was so easy for him.

"Maybe it was easy because of my undead army, my higher attributes and skills, but what about this deer. I didn’t even kill it. Was killing not the only way to complete the trial?" Aaron thought to himself.

    What he thought was right.

These trials are prepared for someone who was supposed to be a normal genius, not a monster genius like Aaron. If they were prepared for someone like him, then almost no one in the world might complete the trials.

That would be considered a waste, as not many can benefit from that. Trials are made to benefit fewer people, but these few ones are geniuses. If the trials are made solely to benefit monster geniuses, then not many would benefit from that.

Every generation would have a few, but that number would be too low.

The reason why the trial was completed without him killing the deer monster was that trials can indeed be completed in different ways, but that depends on the creator of the trials.

Aaron happens to have stumbled upon one such trial.

    ---

The man chuckled, "Yes, and now let’s wait to see what the reward would be, before I take you out of here".

He went silent after saying that and was not interested in saying anything else. It’s not like he can’t say, but spoonfeeding everything would only hinder the growth of a genius.

From the few hours he observed Aaron, the man was sure that the boy was a monster genius. It’s better not to be involved too much in their growth. Doing so would be a disservice to the boy.

So, he let the boy think and arrive at a conclusion by himself, rather than providing one.

A few seconds later, a bright light appeared, which made Aaron close his eyes, as the light was hurtful for his eyes. He opened them again when he felt that bright light had disappeared.

When he opened his eyes, Aaron saw a skill book in the place where the bright light appeared. He immediately took it and checked what the skill was.

    --

Death Drain: Drain health from opponents to recover one’s own health. The amount drained depends on mana use. The speed of the drain depends on the rank of the skill and the level difference with the opponent.

    --

Once he saw what the skill was capable of, he immediately used it. There was no need to think about this. It is a must-have skill for everyone.

"Now that was done, let’s move on to the next. You asked me about other trials. Do you still want to?" the man asked.

    "Yes, Aaron replied.

    Whoosh!

The next second, Aaron reappeared in the white room.

"Now you can enter the next one", the man said.

"Thank you, senior, but I want to rest for a bit", Aaron said. Though he wasn’t tired, he had been hunting since morning, only taking a small break at noon to eat.

"Okay, enter when you want to", he said and disappeared from view, but Aaron believed that the man could still see everything happening here, but he didn’t care about that.

    ---

While taking rest and eating some food, Aaron checked his status, which had improved a lot during he day when he was hunting in the Core region, before he stumbled upon the palace.

He killed a lot of monsters in the trial, but those are all low-level monsters. Even with a 100x EXP perk, the amount he earned was not enough to improve much.
