Death Mage with an SS-Rank Talent
Chapter 324 324
The five cult leaders dealt with the Supreme in a way that no one would say was their fault for his death.
When they arrived at the door, the supreme greeted them.
They are all smiles on the outside, "All hail the supreme", the five uttered, appearing that they are devoted to him as if they would sacrifice themselves to protect him, no matter what, but that was only on the surface.
They unlocked the door quickly, but they didn't unlock him from his bindings. They acted as if they were trying to remove them, but failed to do so.
Finally Big Three spoke, "Maybe we should worry about that later. First, we need to leave the prison. Although we may have taken measures to ensure that no reinforcements arrive, there could still be some anomalies that could disrupt our plan. So, it's best to leave as soon as possible".
The other four nodded as well.
If they take off the bindings, getting rid of the supreme would be impossible. As long as he was still bound, they could get rid of him, but each of the five came to know that the others were thinking of eliminating the supreme, which became an issue for them.
If others were genuinely trying to save the supreme, they could have made such a person the scapegoat. However, with each of the five thinking of eliminating the supreme, they came to understand that they would be wary of each other.
The task suddenly rose in difficulty, but none scrapped their idea of getting rid of the supreme, just waiting for a chance, a perfect opportunity, no matter how unlikely such a chance might occur.
They quickly left the lower levels, as they were terrified that reinforcements might appear. Though they might lose the chance of assassinating the supreme, their lives are more important. They can always try later on, but for that, they have to be alive, or what would matter if the supreme is alive or not.
As they reached the upper levels, the chance finally came in the form of a guard captain.
While they are on their way to release the supreme, a guard was missed by chance. He lay dead, as he couldn't make much of anything, but when he saw who they were escorting out, the captain, with all the strength that remained in his body, aimed for the supreme and cast one last shot in his life.
The shot found its target true and ended the weakened Supreme, which the five had sensed before but hadn't acted upon quickly. They only acted as if they were trying to protect him, but made sure that the shot found its target.
Once the supreme was dead, they quickly killed the guard.
"Damn it. The supreme is dead. We need to leave quickly and make sure the cult remains intact" The five quickly hurried out, and so did the few surviving criminals that followed them out.
All of that was drama, of course.
There are cameras everywhere in the prison. So, they had to play their role of being a good leader of the cult, or the alliance could use those videos to create chaos among the cult members.
They couldn't let that happen.
Soon, they left the prison, leaving behind a few cannon fodder, not caring whether they would live or die. They matter not. The longer they can keep the prison guards from calling reinforcements, the easier it will be for them to disappear from the area.
The five, along with the criminals that they freed, reached the land, and once they did, the submarine was sunk, far away from Kraken City. If anyone finds it quickly, they might soon catch up to them, based on any evidence that they might leave behind.
Although they made sure not to leave any evidence behind, they were still careful.
After reaching land, the five took different paths to leave the area. The criminals followed those who had freed them. There was the matter of rewards for helping them with the guards quickly so that they could reach the supreme.
Many of the freed even died.
When they started, they were around sixty, but now only twenty or so remain. Even though they were injured, they needed treatment immediately. So, they have no choice but to follow the five to claim their rewards and also get some treatment.
They can't exactly go into the alliance-controlled area and ask for treatment.
Following them seemed like a good idea for a moment, mainly because they knew that these belonged to the cults, but it ended badly for them.
The five quickly eliminated the remaining survivors who were following them, considering them dead weight that might lead to their capture. Additionally, they were not interested in offering any rewards. These criminals are insane, and not someone who would listen to their orders.
If they were someone who would listen properly, they might have used them as fodder, but they weren't. So, getting rid of them was the right choice for the five or one day they might become a pain in the ass, maybe even try to replace them in the cult.

Far away from the prison...
A few days after leaving Rock City, the explorer's team arrived at the site of the ruins.
There were camps near the ruins. Though the Supreme mostly eliminated the first team, the numbers were filled quickly. There are already more people than the original exploration team.
The original team's main objective was to locate the ruins and determine whether it was true or a trap laid by the Cult to divert their attention elsewhere. It was done many times, by both sides.
So, only a small team was sent. Well, seventy or more is not considered small, but compared to exploring an area like The Wastelands, it is considered very small.
Now that the ruins were found, many more were sent to investigate further and uncover what was hidden within them, which had attracted the cult to them and why they were trying their best to ensure that alliance was not the first.
If not for the sudden increase among the cultists and rumours of a key that can lead to entering the ruins, they wouldn't have sent more. Now, while some would test the ruins directly, others would search the area for the key, which might resemble anything.
Finding the key might be impossible. Therefore, other avenues should be explored to determine if there was another possible way to enter the ruins. Just because they have heard rumours from the cultists that were captured, that doesn't mean the alliance would be focusing entirely on one thing.
