Delayed Regrets: He Regretted Only After Her Death
Chapter 20: Aiden Grant’s Heartache
CHAPTER 20: CHAPTER 20: AIDEN GRANT’S HEARTACHE
Seeing Daisy’s little face flushed with fever, her voice hoarse.
Aiden felt terrible inside.
Even though this child was born to Tiana Linden and Hector Chaucer, Aiden still hoped she would be healthy and happy.
He cared about Daisy, so he handed her the cup of warm water he held.
The cold and harsh tone he used with Tiana earlier became incredibly gentle in an instant:
"Daisy, the water uncle poured is the same as the water mommy poured."
"Hurry and drink it, once you do, your throat won’t hurt, let uncle feed you, be good!"
He even used his warm large hand to touch Daisy’s head.
With her small hand, she gently pushed away the cup he held.
Then she also pushed away his large hand placed on her head.
Her long eyelashes slightly raised as she looked at Aiden, her eyes full of disdain.
She hated her dad.
Every time daddy appeared, mommy would feel sad.
And even though she was clearly his child, he refused to acknowledge her.
She didn’t need such a father.
Nor the warm water he offered.
"Thank you! The water you poured doesn’t taste good, only the water my mommy pours tastes good."
While her voice remained polite, it was distant and detached.
It seemed she wanted to distance herself from the bad dad.
Then, she looked at her mommy with a happy smile, "Mommy, I want the water you poured!"
The smile that Daisy only showed to Tiana strongly pierced Aiden’s heart.
This child, why did she look at him with such cold eyes?
Tiana knew that Daisy disliked Aiden.
She quickly poured Daisy another cup of warm water and watched her drink more than half of it in one go.
As she took the cup, she hurriedly asked about Daisy’s condition.
Behind her, Aiden still held the cup of water that hadn’t been given, suddenly feeling superfluous staying there.
So he said, "I’ve already paid for Daisy’s medical expenses, Tiana, I hope you spend more time caring for the child, and less on those plots and schemes."
Daisy looked at Tiana, "Mommy, let’s return the medical expenses, okay? I don’t want to use his money."
Tiana knew Daisy didn’t want to have anything to do with Aiden, so she nodded, "Okay."
Standing by the bedside, Aiden could not understand why Daisy was so resistant to him?
Clearly, he didn’t mind she was Hector Chaucer’s daughter, and clearly, he cared about her.
Tiana intentionally saw Aiden out.
Aiden stood at the door, coldly and indifferently said, "I will upgrade Daisy’s ward, and will go to pay the fees later."
Tiana: "No need."
Aiden: "For Daisy’s sake, hoping she’ll recover soon."
Tiana: "Daisy won’t like it. I don’t have cash on me, nor do I have your WeChat. I can’t transfer the money to you. I will have Christopher help me return the medical expenses Mr. Grant has advanced for Daisy."
When she turned around to head back into the ward, behind her, Aiden coldly ridiculed her:
"Tiana, you’ve taken two million already, why pretend to return two thousand in medical expenses?"
"You really make people sick."
Tiana didn’t explain anything.
The two million Aiden had Christopher Grant give her, she left it for Daisy.
The hand she held the doorknob with paused slightly.
Even if she explained a thousand times, he wouldn’t believe it.
So she decided not to explain.
She pushed the door again.
When the hospital room door was pushed open a crack, Aiden behind her coldly said again:
"Tiana, you shouldn’t have put my name and phone number on Daisy’s family contact form."
"I’m not Daisy’s father."
"When will you change Daisy’s kindergarten family contact information back?"
Tiana didn’t respond.
If it wasn’t for having no way out, how could she put Aiden’s phone number down?
She didn’t want to have any more ties with Aiden in her life.
But she feared after she died, Daisy would have nowhere to go, so she wouldn’t change it.
But she promised in a reassuring tone, with a bit of defiance: "Don’t worry, Ms. Hayes won’t call Mr. Grant again."
Unless she dies.
Then she opened the door and went back inside.
"Mommy, what happened to your hand?"
Daisy saw the bloodstain and the IV needle marks on her mommy’s hand and immediately became distressed.
She grabbed her mommy’s hand and blew on it, "Blow, blow, Daisy will blow on it for mommy."
Tiana withdrew her hand, "Mommy is fine, mommy just caught a cold and fever like Daisy. It’s the flu season, it’s easy to catch a cold!"
Little Daisy found it odd, "Mommy has had a cold for so long, why hasn’t it gotten better?"
Tiana stroked Daisy’s head, "It’ll be better soon, don’t worry."
Around six in the evening, Tiana carried Daisy on her back and made a phone call to Ms. Hayes outside the ward.
Ms. Hayes expressed some concern.
Tiana went straight to the point, "Ms. Hayes, I have something to ask of you."
Ms. Hayes: "I’ll help if I can. Ginny’s mother, tell me, what is it?"
Tiana: "...I am, have late-stage lung cancer, and the cancer cells have spread to the liver and stomach, I may not have much time left..."
On the other end of the phone, Ms. Hayes, who wore a French braid, was sitting in the car her boyfriend had just picked her up in.
She originally wore a radiant smile.
The smile froze immediately, "Ginny’s mother, how can this be? You’re clearly still so young."
In Ms. Hayes’ memory, Ginny Linden’s mother was young and beautiful, although a bit skinny, she had great poise.
A distinct face, far more memorable than the current popular faces with aesthetic surgeries, so exquisite that even as a girl she liked it immensely.
Ms. Hayes mumbled repeatedly, "Ginny’s mother, how can this be?"
Tiana had no time for lamenting, she straightforwardly stated:
"Ms. Hayes, Daisy was born when I was in prison, back then there was a huge misunderstanding between me and Daisy’s father Aiden Grant."
"Which is why even now, he refuses to acknowledge Daisy as his daughter."
"But I have no choice, after I die, Daisy..."
At this point, her words choked up.
After a pause, she found the strength to continue:
"Ms. Hayes, during my lifetime, please don’t call Daisy’s father. If I find a suitable family to adopt Daisy, I will let you know."
"But if I haven’t found a suitable family, and one day I’m suddenly unable to pick up Daisy, if you’re unable to reach me, please call Daisy’s father, Aiden Grant."
The length of her life wasn’t something she could control.
If she suddenly passed away one day, she wouldn’t be able to foresee it.
"Ms. Hayes, I’m counting on you!"
"Ginny’s mother, you’re still so young, there must be hope for a cure. You definitely can..."
"I know my situation."
...
In the next few days, little Daisy stayed in the hospital for continued IV treatment.
Tiana was also hospitalized for treatment.
However, she was admitted to the oncology department.
After her IV sessions and treatments, she went to the pediatric ward to care for little Daisy.
On the day Daisy was discharged, the pleural effusion caused by her cold had also been drained, and the doctor prescribed her a lot of medication.
She switched all the medication bottles to vitamins and cold medicine.
Returning home, a call came in for her.
"Tiana, do you have any sense of shame?"
"You’ve seduced Hector Chaucer, now Hector is in jail, Aiden Grant doesn’t want you anymore, are you trying to seduce my husband?"
