Chapter 20: Impurities of Faith
The reason Naimes could discover the Dual Commandment Synchronization technique was precisely because he had originally relied on this method to advance his Breath of Holy Commandment to a higher level.
His transmigrator's soul, compared to the souls of this world, possessed a unique structure and peculiar properties - it might be more accurate to call it a True Spirit.
When Naimes first transmigrated, he naturally also had an external soul. Only after becoming aware of his True Spirit did he develop the unorthodox method of dividing his existence into internal and external aspects to breathe simultaneously. As Naimes' True Spirit operated, a golden light emerged from within. That was the Numerical Value of This World! A fragment of divinity he had obtained from the Oath God - the qualification certificate for godhood.
Now with this divinity manifesting, the breathing of Naimes' True Spirit gained a special power. As Dual Commandment Synchronization activated, the breathing of Naimes' current body also changed. The Divine Nails embedded in his body trembled slightly, undergoing further transformations.
Once Divine Nails penetrated the body, they essentially severed one's future - beyond salvation unless a miracle occurred. But now, this was precisely that miracle!
Originally, the Divine Nails were simply formless nails condensed from ordinary faith power. But now, they became covered in dense impurities. The nails resembled rotting meat breeding different kinds of maggots.
"I want to marry a woman who'll obey me completely!" Naimes' consciousness touched one such 'maggot' and heard this prayer. Clearly, these were impurities within faith - human desires mixed into prayers to gods, the distracting thoughts contaminating belief.
Few could believe in a god wholeheartedly without reservation, not for any particular reason, but simply because that was the god they wished to believe in. If a god couldn't process these faith impurities, they would become increasingly constrained by their believers' demands, growing less and less like themselves.
The divinity now displayed its power of faith purification. However, it could only purify without the ability to refine these impurities. Naimes found himself helpless against these 'maggots'.
He attempted to remove these distracting thoughts with spiritual power, only to find them tightly bound to the faith. His spiritual power proved largely ineffective. Forcing removal might even damage the faith power itself.
"Pity my divinity isn't complete. Based on current estimates, it's likely only one-fifth of a full divinity's numerical value. Many functions remain incomplete, requiring my deliberate activation to manifest properly."
"And my understanding of gods is far too limited."
Above the Gold Seed was the Mythic Seed. While Mythic Seeds differed from true gods, the gap wasn't vast. But between Gold and Mythic Seeds lay an insurmountable chasm.
"Black Stone, Steel, Gold, Legendary, Mythic."
"Legendary is a special seed type, equivalent in rank to Gold, similar to how Aberrant Seeds equal demons - but extremely difficult to achieve. I don't even know the method."
"I only know that Legendary Seeds are typically achieved by great figures who left their mark on history."
"My knowledge basically stops at the Gold Seed level. What little I know about Mythic Seeds amounts to common knowledge."
"Such information is too difficult to obtain." Naimes currently had two approaches: first, contacting cults.
Cults specialized in rebellion against orthodox gods. Those surviving this long must possess some understanding of divinity.
"The second method is becoming a high-level demon."
Demons receive inherited knowledge from the Abyss Consciousness when advancing, along with updated Abyss permissions. High-level demons correspond to Gold Seeds, while Demon Lords match Mythic Seeds.
Naimes estimated that becoming a high-level demon would grant him some mythological knowledge. After all, when becoming an Aberrant Demon, he'd gained knowledge about high-level demons and Gold Seeds.
This seemed like an incentive to encourage rapid advancement.
"But advancement won't come easily." Naimes faced his own difficulties. An Aberrant Demon's numerical value could expand beyond three times a normal demon's, making high-level demon advancement three times harder.
Naimes roughly calculated that remaining in the Abyss would make high-level demon advancement nearly impossible. Combined with possessing the Oath God's divinity fragment, he'd expended considerable effort to enter the material plane under the Oath God's jurisdiction.
"Must I fulfill conditions one by one?" Naimes observed that each Divine Nail carried dozens of distracting thoughts, though most were similarly materialistic desires.
"No, that's too inefficient." Naimes rejected the idea. Granting wishes could eliminate impurities, but he wasn't a true god capable of illuminating the world with divine power. Even gods wouldn't do so.
"There must be another way to remove these impurities." Naimes sensed that solving this wouldn't just free Naimes' body from its predicament, but also deepen his understanding of divinity's nature.
Through further attempts - like transforming his spiritual power's properties to enhance offensive capability, destroying rather than removing impurities - Naimes found partial success. But complete eradication proved impossible.
Or perhaps his current divinity fragment could only purify faith to a certain degree. "And it's extremely energy-consuming."
"My spirit isn't weak, yet eliminating just a few impurities took an hour. At this rate, I might only process three impurities daily."
"Brute force can't achieve thorough eradication, nor does it bring real improvement." Naimes sought faith power to develop his divinity, gradually mastering and completing it as an aid in reaching the pinnacle. Using brute force would be putting the cart before the horse.
"Perhaps I need to change my approach..." Frustration didn't deter Naimes but sparked inspiration.
The Oath Rope materialized as Naimes closed his eyes to sense other Oath Ropes - particularly the one connected to Pur. He would compare different faiths using his divinity.
Naimes believed Pur's faith was relatively pure. Comparing pure faith power against these impurity-filled versions might reveal a solution through their differences.
But just as Naimes focused on Pur's side, he suddenly detected changes in another segment of Oath Rope. "Hmm? The village guard?"
