Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband
Chapter 248: Meeting Her Benefactor
CHAPTER 248: MEETING HER BENEFACTOR
Thane’s driver cleared his throat, slicing into the tension, "Master Grayson, the truck driver is coming over." He announced.
Brooke looked at Thane, but he did not move or say anything. She clicked her tongue and turned her attention to the driver in front. "Go and ask him what he wants."
"Yes ma’am." The driver nodded and quickly stepped out of the car and met the other driver halfway.
He returned five minutes later the driver returned with news, "Mr and Mrs Grayson, he’s said that his employer is willing to meet with you both." He informed them.
Brooke parted her lips to speak, but Thane cut her off, "Tell him we’ll meet them, but I’m the one who decides the location."
The driver nodded sharply and left to relay the message.
Would that work though? If the person who helped her was just as influential as her husband, then would they really be okay with someone else choosing the location?
She got her response when the driver told them, "They have agreed, now we just have to follow them from behind."
Thane nodded and gave the location. Then, he proceeded to keep quiet for the remainder of the trip. Brooke did the same, her mind replaying their conversation over and over until they pulled over at a restaurant.
Brooke recognized the place as the same one Thane took her to on their first date. She sighed, that time had suddenly felt so distant, she couldn’t even bring herself to remember the last time they had a peaceful meal together.
Inside the restaurant, they sat on opposite sides of the table, waiting for Brooke’s benefactor to arrive. Since they were the ones who insisted on a location change, they had to wait for about thirty minutes, before the restaurant staff informed them that their guest had just arrived.
Brooke felt a nervous knot tie in her stomach. It wasn’t Ethan, she had seen him at the prison already, and he didn’t seem to have any form of idea what was going on with her.
To herself she wondered, ’If Mr Grayson couldn’t get me out, then who could it be?’ her questions were silenced when the door was pushed open, allowing slow, gentle footsteps to walk in.
Brooke’s eyes lit up as she sprang out of her seat. "It’s you!" She smiled, watching Julian walk into the room.
Thane looked over his shoulder at the person who could make Brooke smile so widely. He frowned at the older man who came in, recognizing him from the Grayson estate.
"Thank goodness you’re alright!" Julian cried.
Brooke made her way over to him, "You were the one who helped me out of prison?" She asked, still in shock over seeing him again.
Julian noticed the sharp glare pointed at him from Brooke’s husband, clueless, Julian settled his gaze on an expectant looking Brooke.
"Why don’t we settle down first and discuss everything properly?" He suggested, gesturing her over to the table.
Brooke nodded, she led him to the table and pulled out a chair next to her. After they were both seated, she resumed her interrogation.
"Were you the one who helped me out of prison?" of course it seemed obvious enough that he was the one, what Brooke wanted to know was why and how he was able to.
Julian replied calmly, "Yes, it was me." Swiftly he added, "I apologize for all the ruckus my driver caused. I was the one that instructed him to make sure he picked you up from prison. I was just trying to ensure you were safe-"
"I am more than capable of taking care of my wife." Thane inserted, reminding them of his presence.
Brooke chimed, "He didn’t mean-"
Julian’s voice drowned hers out, "Young Grayson, don’t you think you should be a bit more thankful? If I hadn’t stepped in..."
Thane cut him off once more, "I already made arrangements to get her out, you just happened to beat me to it." He hissed.
But Julian didn’t believe that. However, he didn’t want to probe at the man’s ego any further, he sighed and dropped his shoulders, wondering why the young man was so on edge around him.
Was he like this with everyone else?
Brooke finally got a word in, "Thank you so much for helping me, I don’t know how I’m ever going to repay you for your kindness."
"I don’t want anything, I’m just glad to see you safe." He said, but Thane met his response with a cynical laugh.
"You don’t want anything? That’s ludicrous. I heard you had the president involved in this matter, I doubt you’d use your connections so lightly." He frowned, "If there’s something you want from me, then come out and say it. Don’t use my wife as a gambling chip."
"Mr Grayson!" Brooke scolded, "That’s going too far."
Thane intensified his glare, why was this woman so gullible? He’d thought she’d learn by now whom to and whom not to trust. Why couldn’t she understand that he wanted her to rely on him alone?
Julian alternated his gaze from Brooke’s fuming expression, to Thane’s pissed demeanor.
This looked nothing like the worried wife and the doting husband he saw back at the Grayson estate. If anything they seemed like two bickering children, something he never thought he’d see out of the collected Grayson heir.
Julian calmly inserted, "Well, I would be lying if I said that I didn’t have ulterior motives behind helping Brooke." He started off, catching both their attention.
"However, it isn’t for the reason you’re thinking, young Grayson. I didn’t help Brooke to get back at you. I truly was worried about her well-being, but it wouldn’t be true if I said I didn’t want to meet with her."
Brooke had a puzzled look on her face. "Why did you want to see me?"
He replied candidly, "I wanted to ask you about your father, and the rest of the Crane family."
