CHAPTER 250: VEGETABLE WIFE?

After seeing the news of Brooke’s arrest, Kayden felt foolish for placing so much money on a random woman just to spite Cassie.

Of course, someone who rivalled Cassie had to be just as trashy as she was. He turned off his phone and went downstairs to stretch his legs.

-"Did you forget that illegitimate kid is still here?"

Kayden paused when he heard his sister’s insufferable voice from the dining room. The maids were out doing laundry and running errands, so the house was basically empty save for the three of them.

He rolled his eyes at her crude remark and turned to retire to his room, but stopped when he heard Serena’s response.

-"Ah, my mistake, I was too careless just now." The woman gushed.

Careless? Did these two ever care to hide their animosity towards him? They must be talking about something important.

He stayed back to listen.

-"You should know your place mother, if it weren’t for me, you’d be stuck with Brooke and that good for nothing husband of yours. If not for my good luck having a rich father, heavens knows where you could’ve ended up." He heard Cassie say.

Brooke? He furrowed his brows.

Why would Serena be stuck with Brooke?

-"Cassie, Julian isn’t anything like Luther, so we have to be extra careful to convince him. Do you understand-"

Kayden balled his fists when Cassie interrupted Serena.

-"Convincing? Why would I need to convince my dad that I’m his daughter? And as for Ethan, that bastard can see his vegetable wife for as long as he wants to. After all, isn’t that why he agreed to the engagement in the first place?"

Vegetable wife? Did they mean Brooke? Ethan was Brooke’s husband? The same Ethan Cassie was engaged to?

’None of this makes any sense! What really is the relationship between Brooke and the Crane family?’ Kayden’s suspicions hit an all time high.

He intended to listen some more, but two of the maids returned from grocery shopping, ending their conversation short.

Quietly, he slipped away and retired back to his bedroom, where he took out his phone and placed a call to the president of the production house...

A ring from Lucas’s phone signalled the end of the meeting. He got up and dashed out of the room, ignoring the calls from the lead script writer. Distraught, they followed him out, a displeased expression on their face.

Sadie got up as well to follow, but Damien held her by the wrist. "What do you think you’re doing?"

Sadie retracted her hand, "I’m going after the president to try and convince him not to drop the film." She retorted, a harsh frown on her face.

Damien sighed, "Don’t you ever learn? Just because I’ve accepted your talent doesn’t mean I’m willing to jeopardize my image over a talentless hack-" he was saying, only to get cut off by Dylan, who loudly sprung up from his chair.

Sadie and Damien turned towards him, but he ignored them and walked out of the room after the director and casting director.

Gathering her things off the table she wore a frown on her face, "You got what you wanted, you finally got her kicked off set. I just hope, that it was worth it Damien." She told him, then marched out of the room.

She took out her phone and tried to call Lucas, but was fortunate enough to catch him speaking with the lead script writer by the hotel’s elevator.

Sadie stood back and listened in on their conversation.

"I’ve already made up my mind. Brooke cannot be on set anymore, I advise we begin casting as soon as possible." Lucas insisted.

"But why?! We can’t lose her talent. Sure she’s rough around the edges, but she’s an asset Lucas. It’s unlike you not to see that!" The script writer insisted.

"My answer remains no! I work with objective truths, and right now the public won’t give a damn about our movie if Brooke is in it. This is a business." He said as he turned to leave.

The script writer stood in front of him, "We can push production back. Give our competition the space they need, we have enough money from our sponsors, we could better the set design, the costumes and train the actors in the meantime! We could even finish filming by the end of the year-"

Lucas yelled, "No!" A mean mug on his face he said, We’re sticking with our original timeline, nothing will change that."

"But why?! We shortened the time period for filming from six to four on your request, no questions asked. With this time, we give the public time to cool down, then we take them by surprise with our release-"

Lucas raised his palm, "At the expense of losing Damien? I’m sorry, but Brooke is not good enough for us to let go of our only trump card left. If Damien doesn’t want her on set, she’ll never make it back on my set. We’re not halting production and we are not bringing her back on this project. Am I clear?" He demanded, his tone expectant.

The script writer wanted to speak some more and try to convince him, but ultimately knew better than to cross Lucas the wrong way. Their president was always very cheerful and rarely stood his ground on such matters.

"Loud and clear, sir." The script writer said in a defeated tone, then went in the elevator.

Once Lucas was alone, Sadie walked over to him, and blocked his path, "I-Is it true? You were the one who had them push filming forward?" She asked in a stunned tone of voice.

Lucas tossed her a weary glance, his answer clear as day.

She gasped. "But why would you-" he cut her off with a deep frown.

"Don’t you dare ask me that when you know better than anyone why I’m pushing filming forward." He walked over to her and whispered, "Just be thankful to Brooke for getting herself arrested."

Author’s Note: The rest six Chapters will drop soon, I’m still trying to organize my schedule. Anyways, I wanted to hold off on updating until I could do a mass release of twelve to fifteen Chapters, but I decided that would take some time and didn’t want to keep you guys waiting.

Anyways, I’ll try my hardest to get the Chapters out as fast as I can, so we can finish this story up by Novemberish? Keeping my fingers crossed for even sooner.
