Chapter 44: Send Them In!
Beep… Beep… Beep…
The piercing sound of the emergency pager shattered the stillness like a war drum.
Agent Vick's secretary leapt from her desk after scanning the incoming report. Clutching the blinking device, her heels clicked furiously as she sprinted down the corridor, heart pounding, lungs burning before bursting into his office without knocking.
"Sir, emergency alert!" she gasped, half-doubled over.
Vick barely looked up, his fingers dancing across encrypted screens.
"I know. I already got the call. I'm cross-checking Grux's profile now. We need confirmation that this isn't connected to the East Walaysia lockdown or that damned Wolf of Middle East Force."
He swore under his breath, eyes narrowing.
"What a time for a demon crisis… when ninety percent of our operatives are deployed."
He glanced at the wall map of active agents.
"Who's available on base besides the rookies?"
"Agent Jones was supposed to sign in today," the secretary replied quickly. "I called him earlier he said he'll be here in three hours, max. I'll notify him to rush to the scene."
Vick clicked his teeth. "Three hours is too late. What's the situation?"
She tapped her data pad. "Twenty-five school students are being held hostage. Suspect identified as Demon Grux, based on surveillance image. He's been off radar for months."
She paused. "He's allegedly posing as a tuition teacher under a fake ID. A local enforcer flagged him suspicious, tried to verify his credentials… that's when he went hostile."
She handed Vick the tablet. "We've got partial trait matches. No full confirmation, but it's escalating fast."
Vick leaned back, tension rising. "We need on-site analysis. Immediately."
The secretary hesitated. "Sir… the boys can detect demon presence. Why not send them to confirm Grux's identity?"
Vick raised an eyebrow. "Send the boys alone? That's insane."
She shrugged. "Or… you go with them."
Vick groaned. "Babysitting rookies during a demon standoff. Fantastic."
But she was right. He sighed. "Fine. Alert them. Now."
30 Minutes Later - Highway
Vick, Samuel, and Danny sped down the road in a Division transport vehicle. No sirens, just raw urgency.
"The situation's critical," Vick said, eyes locked on the GPS. "East Walaysia's boiling with over two hundred hostages due to terrorist attacks. This tuition center incident cannot escalate further, or it might turn West Walaysia into chaos as well."
He looked at them seriously.
"First priority: confirm if it's demon-related. No confrontation. No improvisation. Understood?"
"Understood, Chief," the boys replied in unison.
Samuel turned to Danny telepathically.
"Finally, field mission!"
"Men In Black mode activated, bruh. Hope we get to exorcise something."
Suddenly, Vick's phone rang. He answered without hesitation.
"Sir, we've got a breach at Demon Prison. Ten demons escaped confirmed. I'm pursuing them but need you to take command at the prison." Demon Agent Rex.
His voice? Grit. Chaos. Velocity.
Vick's grip tightened around the steering wheel.
Then...
Screeeeeech.
The vehicle slammed to a halt.
Vick hung up, deep in thought. He turned slowly to the boys.
They stared back... Danny blinking hard.
"Dude… why is he looking at us like we just stole his lunch?"
"Hell Order, scan his mind!" Samual command.
"Direct human thought reading not possible," Hell Order responded. "However, if you place your hand on his head, I can scan short-term intentions."
"Wait... can we actually do that?"
Both spoke aloud, unintentionally.
"What are you two talking about?" Vick asked, confused.
Samuel waved it off. "Nothing, sir. Some new ability. We'll explain later."
Vick exhaled and reached into the dashboard. "Take these."
He handed them Defense Ministry sigil name tags.
"With this tag, You're now Special Agents. Take a cab. Get to the site. Scan the situation. Do not engage. No heroics. Once it's confirmed to be demon-related, update me!"
Danny squinted. "Wait... we're solo?"
Samuel smirked. "Congratulations, Danny. We've been field-promoted to intern warriors!"
"Location sent to your phones. Now move."
They jumped out. Dust spun around their feet as Vick's vehicle roared off toward the prison.
4:20 PM – Hostage Zone: Global Tuition Centre
A battered police command van hummed outside the building gates. SWAT teams covered entry points. Sirens pulsed like warning signals.
The boys arrived with no formal Division gear, but their name tags gave enough authority.
Samuel tapped his bracelet. "Hell Order....scan vicinity."
"Five C-Class demon traces detected within 200 meters. One inside the building. Four concealed in the perimeter."
Danny whispered, "Not ideal. Let's call Vick."
Samuel nodded. He dialed and quickly reported.
"Stay in the command center," Vick instructed. "Agent Jones will arrive in two hours. Alert the commander on site to tighten security due to possible demon accomplices. Do not mention demons. No jokes. You represent Division X. Keep it professional."
Samuel relayed the instructions to Danny as they approached the command center.
An officer turned sharply. "Who are you? This is a restricted zone."
Samuel held out his badge. "Special Agent, Division X."
Danny followed. "Who's the chief in command?"
The inspector squinted. "Are these kids… really agents?"
Still, after inspecting the ID tags, he led them inside and introduced them to Chief Alex.
Samuel shook hands firmly.
"We've identified the suspect. He is wanted by Division X. Our senior agent will arrive in two hours to take over. We believe he's not working alone. We advise you to tighten the perimeter security."
Chief Alex frowned. "This is our operation. How can your Division just hijack a potential national threat?"
Samuel replied calmly. "This is not WOME or terrorist-related. It's beyond standard protocol. We just need two hours, then our lead agent will take command."
Just then, an officer rushed into the command post.
"Sir! The assailant handed a phone to one of the hostages who just came out. I think he's ready to negotiate or state his demand now."
The phone rang just as he spoke.
Chief Alex grabbed it and turned on speaker.
"I'm Chief Alex. Identify yourself. Why are you holding these students?"
The line crackled, then a chilling voice replied.
"Haha… Alex, relax. My demand is very simple. As long as you give me what I want, I'll exchange it for the hostages."
Alex clenched his fist. "I don't negotiate with criminals. But state your demand."
Grux's voice grew darker.
"Send me the two Special Agents who just arrived...Samuel and Danny. Every ten minutes you hesitate, one child gets a blade to the heart. Clock's ticking."
Danny went pale. "Bro… I think this trap's got our names written on it."
