CHAPTER 55: CHAPTER 46: FORCED TO LEAVE WITH NOTHING (SECOND UPDATE)
Lawrence Winters received a call from Kenneth Osborne in their company office, learning that Brooke Osborne’s divorce from Gregory Quinn was finalized.
She lightly tapped the contract signed by Brooke, smiling as she said, "Uncle, can we sue now?"
Nick Zeller, wearing the latest Apple AirPods, was nodding his head to the beat of the music. When he heard what Lawrence said, he waved his hand, "It was your setup, you’re in charge, you go find our lawyer."
Their small company had its own regular lawyer.
Lawrence quickly called the lawyer.
The lawyer, after hearing the entire story, immediately said, "Fax me the contract, I’ll go to the court right away to sue Brooke Osborne and Gregory Quinn for repayment."
River City is a small place, and local lawyers all have their own networks.
The Great Heavenly Master had a well-known reputation and paid the lawyers well, so there were more people willing to help him.
Thus, on the twelfth of the first month, the court, which had just resumed work shortly ago, issued summonses to Brooke Osborne and Gregory Quinn.
Gregory Quinn looked at the court summons, his eyes nearly popping out, "What the hell?! When did I borrow money from Nick Zeller?! And a million! Why doesn’t he just rob?!"
Carefully examining the court summons and the copied contract, Gregory suddenly jumped up, "This is Brooke Osborne’s signature! We’ve divorced, what’s it got to do with me?! If they want money, go find Brooke! Besides, they never even performed exorcism on me, why should they charge me?!"
"Nick Zeller, you sly Great Heavenly Master! This is blatant extortion and robbery! Just wait and see, I’ll hire a lawyer and countersue them, demand compensation for my mental distress!"
Gregory Quinn thought it through and excitedly went to consult with a lawyer.
The lawyer, after closely examining the court summons and the compensation claim, shrugged helplessly, "Mr. Quinn, this contract was signed during the period when you and Ms. Brooke Osborne were married, which means at the time of signing, Brooke was still your wife, so her signing this contract makes it valid as a mutual debt of the couple."
"How could it be mutual debt of the couple?! We’re already divorced! Divorced, don’t you understand?! Besides, I never signed it, I didn’t agree at all! I was the one deceived! They’ve set a trap for me!" Gregory shouted loudly, but his heart sank, feeling vaguely that something was off.
"In cases of borrowing debt during marriage, as long as certain conditions are met, the signature of one spouse can be valid without both needing to sign. But if you were deceived, then you could still fight this case." The lawyer, after hearing Gregory out, decided to take on the case, but asked Gregory to pay a deposit of ten thousand.
Despite being very stingy, at this moment, Gregory knew he couldn’t be stingy, otherwise if the million-dollar contract stood, he’d personally have to pay at least half a million!
After paying the deposit and signing the agency contract, Gregory, still fuming, rushed back to confront Brooke Osborne, that wretched woman.
...
"Brooke Osborne, you foolish cheap wench, come out here!"
"I’ve already dumped you, divorced you, and you could still be so stupid to be conned for a million!"
"If you’re being an idiot, fine, but don’t drag me down with you!"
"I’m warning you! I’ve already hired a lawyer! I’m countersuing Nick Zeller for fraud!"
Gregory Quinn shouted furiously beneath Building A where the Osborne Family and Winters Family lived, extremely excited.
He didn’t accuse Brooke Osborne and Nick Zeller of conspiring with Lawrence Winters to scam him, after all, Brooke herself was also being sued by Nick.
According to that contract, Brooke owed fifty thousand to the other party too.
He believed Nick Zeller was just a big fraudster, not only conning his money but Brooke’s as well.
"Everyone come and take a look! Nick Zeller, that big scammer! Even scams the neighbors’ money! Doesn’t he have any shame?!"
That day, both Lawrence Winters and Nick Zeller were at home, not going to the company.
Their home was on a high floor with excellent sound insulation, so they couldn’t hear Gregory shouting below at all.
It was a familiar acquaintance of Nick Zeller who secretly recorded a video and sent it to him.
Nick Zeller, upon seeing it, chuckled, "Yo! Is this guy trying to deliver money to me!"
He immediately put on a coat and rushed downstairs, holding up his phone to the jumping Gregory Quinn, "Go on, keep cursing. I’ll record the evidence and go find a lawyer to sue you for damaging my reputation. — My reputation is quite valuable, a million is just a drop in the bucket; if I sue you, it’ll start at least at ten million!"
Gregory Quinn abruptly stopped, stretching his neck, like a goose being squeezed at the throat by fate, stuck between advance and retreat.
Nick Zeller smiled warmly, "Go on, keep cursing. After all, everyone’s watching, and they’re all my witnesses."
