Devil Man
Chapter 53: Shadow Devil
CHAPTER 53: SHADOW DEVIL
In a leafless forest called the Devil Forest, where devils live, their nest was. Groups of students descended here. The peace of the forest had been disturbed.
In the periphery of the Devil Forest, a group of worm devils were together; their number reached close to a hundred.
Their actions are strange; as if they were surrounding something, devilish energy was released from them.
Something had provoked them.
At the center of the Worm Devil stood a young girl. Her silver hair cascaded down, her silver eyes were without any emotion, and her body radiated a cold aura, like a cold goddess looking at mortals like ants.
It seems she was the reason for the change of the Worm Devils.
Eira looked at the worm devils that surrounded her. Her expression remains unchanged.
It’s been two hours since she has been walking in the forest. She hadn’t forgotten the vow she made: exterminating all devils that exist on Earth.
She had been hunting devils, but all the devils she met were Worm Devils.
And before she knew it, she was already surrounded by this group of worm devils.
She stood before them, her hands moved as a Requiem Gun appeared in her hands—a pair of Requiem Pistols.
Her soldier uniform is still unchanged. She channeled her Originat into the Pistol.
The pistols began to glow, turning into an ice pistol; they were like a pistol forged from ice.
Mechanical sounds could be heard—the click—and the pistols began to emit a chilly aura.
Two Worm Devils couldn’t take it any longer. They jumped, rushing at her with devilish energy released from them.
"Gun Requiem Art; Rapid Fire."
Her voice was like judgment from above, deciding the fate of the two devils.
She clicked the trigger; two ice bullets burst out from the muzzle. With sonic speed, they pierced through the bodies of the two worm devils.
Their body was frozen mid-air, falling to the ground, cracking into small pieces.
The other Worm Devils saw this, their anger rose, and they shrieked as they attacked Eira.
Her expression was still the same; her eyes were on the devils.
"Snow Requiem Art: Snowbound Step."
Her figure disappeared like the snow; all one could see was the body of the Worm Devil getting frozen at every second.
Requiem Art: They are techniques created related to Requiem. This technique is used with Originat.
There are different Requiem Arts:Elemental Requiem Art a requiem art based on elements; an example is what Eira used to move. Examples are Fire Requiem Art, Thunder Requiem Art.
Weapon Requiem Art, a Requiem Art that is used with weapons like swords, spears, guns, etc.
Beast Requiem Art, a Requiem Art that is used with beasts, beast Requiem, and able to cultivate beast Originat.
And lastly, there is Innate Requiem Art, Requiem Art that is born from one’s Requiem. It’s the perfect Requiem Art for a Requiem User, as they would bring out 100% of its power, and the limit of the skill is related to the limit of the Requiem.
There are also ranks among the Requiem Art, related to the ranks of Cultivation. There are also special skills that deal with devils.
There are also some Requiem Arts that upgrade as the user Cultivation increases.
All Eira did was raise her hands, pressing the trigger of her Pistol Requiem. Her movement was as elegant as the moon.
Before one could know it, what surrounded her was a broken ice sculpture of the Worm Devil.
Just within a few minutes, they had all been wiped out, just by a bullet.
Meanwhile, not far away from her.
A shadow was bursting through the forest; one wouldn’t notice this if you don’t look closely.
It was fusing with the shadows under the tree, moving at insane speed.
Suddenly it paused, feeling the change in the weather.
"Why is it getting cold? Also this level of strength, was there something wrong with the information?" it muttered. Its voice was like the hiss of a viper.
It immediately moved, heading towards the direction the change was coming from.
When it got there, what filled its sight was the broken ice of the worm devil.
It was surprised to see Eira, who was standing in the center of it all.
Its mouth curled up, thinking of something, and its body shook with excitement.
It moved; if one looked carefully, one would see a moving shadow that was heading in Eira’s direction.
The Shadow got closer to Eira when it saw that she made no movement; it felt more exciting.
Close enough to her, it assassinated her; its fingers were like daggers, planning to cleave the neck of Eira.
But to its astonishment, it felt something stopping it; a shell of ice had covered Eira.
Eira turned mechanically, her eyes beheld no surprise, just emotionless.
Shock gripped the shadow; its figure was exposed under the sun. Eira saw its appearance.
It was a tall, thin figure made entirely of darkness. Its body had no solid shape—its edges constantly blurred and shifted like smoke trying to hold a human form.
Its skin was pitch-black, darker than any shadow, with faint purple cracks glowing across its chest and arms. Two glowing eyes—sharp and violet—floated on its face, staring without blinking.
Its fingers were long and claw-like, stretching unnaturally as if made of living shadow. When it moved, its body left a faint trail of darkness behind, like mist fading into the air.
Its voice was low and echoing, as though several whispers spoke at the same time. The surrounding space always felt colder and dimmer, as if its presence pulled the light away.
"Shadow Devil," Eira muttered, clearly recognizing the shadow before her.
It turned out it was a devil.
It wasn’t a devil spawn but a Devil Fiend—a peak Devil Fiend.
"Hmm, it seems you truly killed those worms. You must be a talent among the humans. I wonder if I kill you, would humans feel a great pain?""Don’t worry, you are a beauty; I will surely take care of your skin after your death."
Its voice gave one chills; the excitement of killing someone was something that couldn’t be understood.
"Try me," Eira said these two words.
The Shadow Devil grinned, snickering at her words.
Its figure disappeared; one couldn’t see it, even the shadows that surrounded Eira—nothing could be seen.
Eira’s mind was still focused, unchanging.
For a few minutes, nobody moved. Eira maintained her position, and also the Shadow Devil didn’t move.
The Shadow Devil, who was hiding, watched Eira. It didn’t move; it kept its patience.
Shadow Devils are known as assassins among the devils; they were mostly one of the reasons why humans lost wars in ancient times.
And one thing about them is that they are always patient in attacking their prey, always finishing their prey in a single attack.
Ten minutes had passed; the Shadow Devil showed no signs of movement.
Suddenly, from the surroundings, shadow tendrils burst out, all attacking Eira.
Eira, with her pistol, didn’t flinch, but she began shooting down the shadow tendrils.
Her accuracy was perfect and always on the dot.
She kept on shooting; every one of the shadow tendrils was frozen, turning into ice dust.
The Shadow Devil who saw this was shocked that Eira’s element was able to freeze its shadow tendrils into blocks of ice.
It wasn’t an easy feat.
It seemed it had to be careful, then it thought of something; if it had lips, it would have curled up into a wicked smile.
Eira kept on attacking the shadow tendrils, her movement in sync, not letting out any form of weakness.
This continued for five minutes, then suddenly, Eira’s figure disappeared; she appeared in front of one of the trees.
An ice sword was formed in her hands; she pierced the shadow on the ground.
"Aaargh."
A large scream of pain was heard; it turned out that Eira’s sword had impaled the shadow devil.
"How did you find me?" It froze, its eyes full of shock. It thought it had hidden itself well.
"It’s not that hard; just locate the source the devilish energy was coming from," Eira said emotionlessly.
The Shadow Devil heard this and was shocked. How Eira said it was as if it was easy.
Shadow Devils were known to have the least Devilish energy; it’s not that they don’t have immense Devilish energy.
The way the structure of their body was built was to conceal their aura and devilish energy.
It made them a force to be reckoned with.
It felt surprised by how Eira was able to get the source of the devilish energy accurately; even a devil lord can’t get it.
How shocking is Eira’s talent?
Its eyes were full of regret, looking at Eira. Its eyes became dim; it never thought it would be killed by a small child.
Even with its calculations, it still died. Eira’s expression still didn’t change; this was shocking about her. It felt as if she had killed an ant.
As this happened, Eira’s shadow wriggled....
