Ch 79 ENTRANCE 1

"Hello, dear viewers, this is Paxton, and you are watching The Hunter TV," the news anchor, Paxton, greeted his audience with a warm, professional smile. His voice held a palpable anticipation as he continued,

"The day we’ve all been waiting for has finally come."

Behind him, the World Heritage Centre loomed, a colossal structure of shimmering glass and reinforced steel, its modern architecture reaching towards the sky.

"The Guardian Academy ranking battles will happen right behind me today, within the VR capsules set up by the academy in the World Heritage Centre."

Paxton announced, his arm sweeping to encompass the grand entrance.

"So don’t switch the channel, ladies and gentlemen, because I will bring you live updates all throughout the event, from the very first fight to the final victor!" Paxton concluded in a cheerful, energetic tone.

But Paxton was not alone. Thousands of reporters, just like Paxton, from every major broadcasting network and news agency across the globe, were here for the momentous occasion.

Their mobile studios, satellite dishes, and camera crews formed a bustling, temporary city around the perimeter of the World Heritage Centre.

The air vibrated with the various distant sounds of vehicles, the chatter of excited crowds, and the constant, eager voices of news anchors delivering their segments.

It had been declared a worldwide holiday, a truly unprecedented event, just so that people across every continent could watch the ranking battles of the Guardian Academy from their homes, their workplaces, or public viewing centers.

Every year, this event has marked a lot of significance for the human race.

The future guardians of humanity, the elite who would be trained to protect them from alien threats and invasions, would be chosen and showcased in this very institution. It was a day of global pride.

Far across the void of space, on a distant, desolate moon camp, the Watchers were also watching the broadcast.

This moon, a barren planet of rock devoid of atmosphere, had been transformed into a temporary observation post.

They were inside a weird, perfectly spherical dome-shaped chamber, its interior walls made of seamless, white metallic material that pulsed with faint lights.

"Zylos, why are you watching these ants?" a female Watcher, whose blue translucent skin was an appealing trait, which made the male watcher lust over her.

She possessed two sharp, curving horns that protruded from her forehead, indicating a different lineage.

Her features were sharp, and her eyes were completely black. This was Kors.

She addressed a male Watcher, Zylos, who sat before a massive, translucent screen displaying the live feed from Earth.

Zylos, a one-horned male Watcher, whose blue skin was a shade darker, chuckled in a dry rasping sound.

"Hahahah! Kors, we never know when an interesting ant might pop out among the humans.

This ’Guardian Academy’ event is a good way to observe their progress, their potential.

It saves us the trouble of direct scouting." He gestured towards the screen, which showed a wide shot of the bustling crowds on Earth.

"Besides," Zylos continued, his black eyes fixed on the screen,

"Our dogs on the Blue Planet have told us that quite a few interesting ants have popped up this year.

They think these new ants possess great potential, and according to them, they might be a threat to us. Although they don’t know that we relish hunting strong humans much more than weak ones."

Kors, the two-horned female Watcher, made a non-interested expression, a subtle shift in her sharp features.

She found these things largely boring as she didn’t even think of humans as a race strong enough to be recognised.

"Anyway, come watch with me, since you are free right now," Zylos urged, patting a vacant seat beside him.

"Yeah, I guess," Kors replied, her voice flat.

She moved with a fluid, almost silent grace, settling into the adjacent seat, her gaze reluctantly turning to the screen.

The broadcast was being intercepted and displayed through advanced Watcher technology, something the broadcasting companies on Earth were unaware of.

Meanwhile, on the Blue Planet, a huge number of people were arriving in long, winding lines, stretching for hundreds of meters towards the main public entrance of the World Heritage Centre.

The entrance was incredibly crowded, all eager to witness the event.

The air here was thick with the excited chatter of fans, the cries of street vendors selling souvenirs, and the general energy of a massive public gathering.

Suddenly, a line of sleek, black limousines, their polished surfaces gleaming under the morning sun, appeared.

They bypassed the long, public queues entirely, driving directly towards a separate, much less crowded entrance, marked specifically for "Registered Students"

This entrance was guarded by a smaller, but more elite, contingent of security personnel.

The black cars stopped in front of the student entrance.

From the lead car, a young boy emerged. He was clad in shiny, custom-made gear, his armor gleaming, and a long, ornate spear was strapped to his back, its tip glinting.

His chest was puffed out, his posture aggressively straight, radiating an aura of overt arrogance and self-importance.

He walked with a deliberate, confident stride towards the entrance as if he wanted to give a clear message of his superior status.

A line of imposing bodyguards, all clad in dark suits and radiating powerful mana signatures, moved in a tight formation around him, acting as his personal escort.

This was Michael Helios, a prominent scion of one of the Legacy Families, the Helios family. He was the youngest son of Helios Patriarch and was quite talented.

He was absent from the conclave and believed that he would have crushed Klaus Bennett had he been there.

"I will teach him a lesson for messing with the legacies, I think that would also earn me more reverence from the family and public," he thought.

These black-suited men approached the small group of commoner students already standing near the entrance, waiting for their turn to pass through the initial security checks.

"Move aside and make way!" they commanded, their voices sharp and uncompromising.

The students, recognizing Michael from his appearance and the crest on his armor, immediately moved aside, their faces filled with annoyance.

They parted like a sea, letting Michael and his entourage pass directly through.

The rigorous security check that happened for the commoner students, a process involving full body scans, mannequin signature verification, and identity checks, did not happen for Michael.

He simply walked through, his status granting him immediate, unquestioned access. The bodyguards left as soon as Michael had entered.

Meanwhile, in a short distance, standing amidst the commoner students, a person saw all this with a familiar surge of anger in his eyes.

It was Arthur. He watched the scene unfold with frustration. The blatant display of privilege, the casual dismissal of others, the sheer unfairness of it all, grated on his very being.

He was a kind of person who instinctively hated those who saw themselves as superior to any others, simply because they were given a bit of power or wealth by luck or birthright.

He believed in merit, in hard work, in earned strength.

Arthur had always hated the inherent unfairness of the world.

His own parents had been taken away from him when he was just born, leaving him an orphan.

The kind sisters at the orphanage had told him that his parents died tragically in a natural disaster twenty years ago, a common enough occurrence in a world plagued by monster gates and mana anomalies.

When he had later asked the Crimson family, his current patrons, to confirm this story, they had told him the exact same thing, reinforcing the narrative of a natural, unavoidable tragedy.

But he knew that this was far from the truth. The comforting lie had been shattered.

Because, just a few days ago, after the banquet, in front of his very eyes, a new, undeniable message had appeared: a quest.

Something that shook him to his core when it materialized, revealing a truth that contradicted everything he had been told.

[Ding!! Quest activated: Filial Son!]

The quest had shaken him to his core, ripping away the comforting illusion of a natural disaster.

His parents had been killed, murdered, not simply died in a natural disaster.

The orphanage, the Crimson family, they were all hiding something from him, and the suspicion was soo strong that everyone sang the same story.

A new realm of understanding about society and the world settled in him.

A cold, burning resolve ignited within him. He vowed that he would get strong enough to change this, to change his position in society, to dismantle the very system that allowed such injustices.

Heck, he wanted to change the world itself; he wanted the world to be a fairer place, where birthright did not dictate destiny, where truth was not hidden by powerful families.

And he would do that by getting the strength to fight any calamity or power that would stop him from doing so.

He would become the next symbol of hope after Thomas Bennet, the famous hero and the first Paragon, who had fought for humanity’s true elevation.

And he would start all this by avenging his parents and uncovering the truth about their deaths.

With that grim determination etched onto his face, Arthur walked towards the entrance of the World Heritage Centre.

Today, he would make the World know his name.
