Chapter 36: : Yue Cai
CHAPTER 36: : YUE CAI
"Father, he has woken up."
At first, the view in front of him was blurry, and his ears were slowly picking up the footsteps approaching him. In front of Xuan, he saw a girl, probably around his age.
Because she was very young, with long purple hair, her cute face was what he could see while she squatted beside him at the bed he lay on.
And then, the middle-aged man with grey beards mixed with black entered the room. He walked closer while the girl stood up.
"Are you okay, young man?" he asked, with the trait of a muscular, deep voice.
Xuan sat on his feet and groaned, holding his rib. This was when he realized he was badly wounded and bandaged.
"Don’t stress yourself, boy. We found you unconscious in the woods."
"Unconscious?" Xuan muttered to himself, and as if the girl had been asked, she gave a nod.
All of a sudden, the fight between him and Sang Woo flashed before his eyes. Tapping another pain passing through his brain, Xuan almost fell on his knee until the man held him by his shoulder.
"It’s okay. Yue Cai, bring the medicine, will you?"
The girl went downstairs and came back with a hot bowl of brown soup, handing it over to her father, who was now sitting beside Xuan.
"Here, have some."
Xuan took the bowl and started observing it. To them, he was debating on whether to eat the soup or not.
"It’s okay, I only mixed—"
"Evergreen and blood-refining leaf. Thank you."
Xuan completed the man’s words, causing him to smile as he stared at the injured boy drinking the soup.
Normally, both leaves were meant for restoring energy, but not everybody thought of mixing both for faster progress. And when mixed together, both smells were completely killed off.
So detecting it was something out of the ordinary. But again, Xuan sells and concocts medicines, half an alchemist.
"Are you an alchemist?" the man asked.
After drinking the bowl of soup, Yue Cai took it from him. "Not fully an alchemist. Thank you for saving me," Xuan sighed.
"Is that what you’re going to study at the Harem Empire? In Dual Academy?"
Xuan was completely surprised at how the man was able to know that. Then he saw the man handing over the acceptance letter Fang Yuan had given to him.
Xuan felt relieved. He nodded, saying no.
In the academy, there are two different roles of a student, the dual cultivator being the most popular and effective.
And the alchemist, who concocts dual medicines and other kinds of potions.
Though in the same academy, there are frequent clashes between these different role students, based on the body of a woman.
As much as everyone sees dual cultivators as unprincipled fuckers, Xuan told him the truth.
"No, not an alchemist role."
"Oh."
With that said, the man frowned as he muttered what Xuan heard but not clearly. "You’re one of them." Then he looked at his daughter.
"My sister is an instructor at the academy, and my daughter is starting tomorrow," said the man, sharing his look between his daughter and the wounded boy.
Xuan looked at the man and already knew he was worried for some reason when looking at his daughter.
Seriously, not all dual cultivators go around fucking girls.
Disrupting the peaceful moment, a big bang at the door was heard, and replacing the man’s worried face was a well-familiar look Xuan could recognize throughout his lifetime—fear.
"I will be back. Yue Cai, don’t come downstairs."
She gave a nod as her dad went down, leaving them alone.
Xuan sighed. "Are you going to keep on staring at the floor?" he asked.
"Hm? Me? Oh," with a shy schoolgirl’s voice, she replied.
’Spirit Combustion Stage 4, how disappointing.’ But Xuan wasn’t surprised. Her father obviously specialized in alchemy, so it was natural all her life she’d been cultivating the normal way.
"Is it alchemist you’re going for?"
She nodded. Before Xuan could ask if she liked it, a big sound was heard underneath them, like someone slamming another person through the door.
In this case, it was Yue Cai’s father who got slammed through by three rogue cultivators.
Xuan stood, heading downstairs, but as he reached the door, Yue Cai held him back, telling him not to go.
"Why?"
She didn’t reply, and it only made Xuan curious. So he did as he wanted and went downstairs.
"Eh? For two months now you haven’t paid your rent, you think the clan leader is pleased with this?"
Xuan saw a rogue cultivator holding Yue Cai’s father by the neck and effortlessly pinning him against the wall.
At first, he planned on stopping them, but then he just stood, wanting to hear what was going on before he jumped in. And since the rogues couldn’t see him standing behind them, he just stood there.
"Your wife is dead, so now it’s your daughter’s turn to get fucked by the clan head. You think sending her to the empire will keep her free?"
"Yeah, and making up for the two months, your daughter is getting fucked twice. Better hope she isn’t pure."
"Better still, purify her this night because the master’s dick is woah... hahaha."
The rogues laughed simultaneously, and for Xuan, he had already heard enough to know what was happening.
However, it was as if the man didn’t want Xuan to intervene, so he didn’t act and just watched them choke her father near death before kicking him several times.
Turning around, they were shocked to see someone standing behind them all this time, but didn’t mind.
"You have brains, I like it," said a rogue, while the rest smiled at Xuan. "Hey old man, better go fetch your daughter from that empire."
After they left, Xuan walked towards the man, squatting beside him and helping him up. "Why didn’t you want me to stop them?"
The man coughed. "For your sake boy"
