Chapter 41: : The Search
CHAPTER 41: : THE SEARCH
Winter came early this season, but inside the confinements of the elf country, snow wasn’t falling.
But outside, it was freezing even for Li Feng. The hooves of her white horse were sinking in the snow with every step, and her four search escorts behind her were freezing.
She could hear their teeth clapping against themselves. They should be in the forest, but you could barely see any trees.
Because the falling snow had covered its leaves, and the little mist ahead made it hard to tell where they were going.
But Li Feng planned on starting the search for Xuan at the dual academy. So she wasn’t dressed like the norms, but instead, just like her guards, they were putting on hooded robes.
"Are we lost?" asked Li Feng, turning only her left eyeball to see the man behind her, as if wanting to see behind her head.
The guard stuttered. It had become hard to form words a few moments ago, but he still spoke out. "Well..." he swallowed. "With the mist at our disadvantage—"
Li Feng quickly rose her fist hand above her shoulder and the guard immediately kept quiet. It wasn’t Li Feng telling him to shut up.
But something else entirely.
"There’s someone coming."
Accompanying her words was a razor-sharp wind cutting through the mist. It was as fast as hearing a gunshot, and then the person was dead.
And Li Feng barely dodged it by bending down her body. The invisible object took a slice of her hair.
And for that moment, everything seemed as if it stood still.
Swish’
The razor-sharp wind swept past her head, and after dodging it, Li Feng quickly rose her head to see who it was, but no one was there.
"Did anyone get—" Li Feng paused. Something she hadn’t felt in a long time, after having power and ruling, that feeling she had forgotten came rushing back.
Fear.
Because even though she dodged the attack, none of the guards were fast enough, and all their heads were sliced off their bodies.
The next thing she knew, a series of arrows pierced through the mist, heading towards her.
Li Feng leaped away from her horse, and though in mid-air, arrows still found their way.
Li Feng was left with the choice of summoning her colossal anaconda, circling around her.
The arrows were now breaking into two pieces as they touched the silver colossal anaconda, and with Li Feng’s transmitted order—
Woosh... kweuk’
The beast attacked with silver-sharp scales stabbing through the nothingness of the mist, but it stabbed a few persons, as sound was heard.
The attack ceased, and Li Feng walked out of the slithering beast. Its head was a step in front of Li Feng as they both approached the mist.
Hissss!!!!
As if aimed at sight, a rogue had one of the scales pinning his head against a tree where he died, and many more were killed by the scales.
However, one was still breathing. He wasn’t even injured and had hidden himself on top of a tree branch.
"Hmph, I’d like to know why a bunch of low ranks attacked me," said Li Feng.
She climbed on the head of her beast, and it lifted her up to meet the remaining rogue. "Aaaaah!" the rogue screamed.
He was shivering and biting his fingers, begging to be spared. "Eer? You killed all my men!"
"It... It wasn’t me, it was him, I swear to God it was him!" He kept pointing at someone already dead.
"How did you find me? Was it also him? Guess you don’t have any use."
"No no no... It’s me, I was hired to find you. That is how I tracked you down."
As of now, the scared rogue seemed awfully relaxed. It kept Li Feng on her six. She would have asked why, but there was a huge bounty on her head.
"There she is!" someone yelled out loud, and that’s when the rogue cultivator smiled before leaping on another tree far away from her.
Qwaaak!!!
The unpleasant sound of a white crane was heard after its shadow sped past Li Feng. And it was someone familiar riding the beast.
"You?" Fang Yuan growled.
Li Feng’s beast circled around with a deafening roar and released mass scale daggers at him. However, Fang Yuan’s beast dodged it perfectly while in mid-air.
And as if slicing through the air, the crane cut the air with its long scale legs, and the next moment was a loud boom’.
The attack sent the snow ground erupting and destroyed the area as if a construction site had been done, or even far worse.
But what was important right now to Fang Yuan was that Li Feng managed to escape, probably unscathed.
"Tsk."
Fang Yuan clenched his teeth after losing track of Li Feng. The crane beast descended down as he got off, seeing dead bodies.
"Didn’t I warn you martial realm cultivators will be no match for a divine?" the tracker teased. "All the men you gave me are dead."
Fang Yuan sighed. From the spot Li Feng had disappeared, a big hole was there. "I could still track her if you want."
"There’s no need. The person I’m looking for isn’t with her."
"Oh, you mean the Xuan guy. He’s really hard to track, or maybe not in my tracking range. If you could take me to the last—"
"Are you deaf? I said I don’t know where last he was seen." Fang Yuan felt frustrated and sighed. Still, what was Li Feng doing so close to the Wuxia empire?
Or wasn’t she scared of the humans killing her? At least she was strong enough to protect herself.
————————
Princess Xue Ming set out to find the technique that could cure her father. The slaves standing in front of her Phoenix Crane beast handed over road trip supplies.
Xue Ming stared at her brother, who was now in charge of the empire. She had big doubts about this.
Besides, she was supposed to be in the academy learning more about dual cultivation, but she had given it up for now.
Xue Ming nodded, and her elder brother nodded back with a smile. She closed her eyes as the beast started flying off.
She held the red crystal necklace given to her by the great Woo himself. "Don’t worry, Father, I’ll save you."
Probably going to be a long journey.
